Nope, I Still Don’t Care About Morbius

The Morbius movie has a new, extra-large trailer and it does nothing to get me excited for this movie. If anything, it underlines how basic and boring this movie looks. The reminder at the end that it’s coming out in January is all I need to know that this is gonna suck.

The movie feels very basic. There’s the white male lead character, the POC best friend character, and the female love interest. The trailer is very clear about highlighting his super powers, as if anybody goes to a superhero movie because the powers seem cool. The dialogue is hokey, including that Venom joke. I’ve seen both Venom movies. Venom is not well known enough for people to be making Venom jokes like that.

Morbius just doesn’t look good. And I never thought it would be. But I am more than willing for it to prove me wrong when it comes out in the middle of January.

This Lightyear Movie Looks Crazy Good

So Disney and Pixar are making a new movie about Buzz Lightyear as if it was the real ‘person’ and not the toy from Toy Story. The idea is wild, but I’m open to whatever. And this teaser trailer strikes a really great note.

Or I might just be rocking on some great David Bowie.

Will the tone of the movie be more like this song cover or will it be a wacky, space hero adventure? Probably more of the later. But in terms of a really good, really evocative trailer, I really love this one. It’s striking, it’s a little haunting. And that’s a really interesting take on this whole idea. So cool beans!

Lightyear is coming next summer.

6 Things I Want to See in The Batman Movie

The latest trailer for the upcoming Batman reboot was released this past weekend and I thought it was a blast! This looks like a really great Batman movie, and I am as hyped as anybody else. Who doesn’t love a new Batman movie? I do feel a little bit weird getting excited for this film. It wasn’t too long ago that we were already getting some excellent, well-made, very gritty Batman movies. But we’re gonna do it all again anyway!

The most important “the” in the world

Honestly, I’m worried that this list is going to be kind of weak. I have loved pretty much everything we saw in both trailers so far. The Batman seems to be going for a very cool tone, which is a favorite among Batman fans. The action looks good. The world looks cool. Batman and all his Bat-stuff looks great. What’s left for there to hope for? Join me after the jump to find out!

Let’s Take Another Look at Ghostbusters: Afterlife!

A new, international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife arrived on our internets this weekend and gives us an even bigger look at the plot and adventures of this upcoming sequel. And I think the movie still looks fine. It could even be good!

My main takeaway from this trailer is: should Ecto-1 really be doing jumps like that? She’s old, and she’s not built for it. Maybe don’t make her do jumps like that!

Beyond that bit of teeth-gnashing fear for my favorite cinematic car of all time, the rest of the trailer looks good. There’s action, there’s mystery, there’s humor, there’s ghostbusting. I will probably be perfectly happy with this movie, and that’s really all I want from movies most of the time.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes out on Nov. 18.

DC Fandome Delivered the Good Trailers!

DC Fandome was yesterday and I waited until today to share the trailers because reasons. I was simply in no rush to get them posted, since every other comic book geek website did a lot with them, so it’s not like I’m some unique resource. But I still like sharing trailers and my thoughts on those trailers, so here’s a bunch of the good ones I’m excited about from DC Fandome!

Let’s kick things off with the granddaddy of all anticipated trailers: The Batman.

This is the movie everybody is excited about, and this trailer delivered! It’s everything we could want (sans Robin), and the movie looks great! This trailer is a little more scattershot than last year’s teaser trailer, but it’s still fun. I love how the movie looks, I love the tone. The fighting looks great, the Batmobile looks great, the Batsuit looks great. Everything looks great!

Though part of me felt a little weird watching this trailer. Like…we are all so excited for this new Batman reboot…and yet it’s the fourth modern cinematic Batman. The Christopher Nolan movies were great. People like Batfleck. But, y’know…I guess we’ll just do it all again!

Hopefully this time we get a proper Robin.

Next up is the Peacemaker TV show on HBO Max.

I like the look of this one too! Suicide Squad is definitely going to go down as one of my favorite movies of the year, so this show should be a hoot! I am all in favor of John Cena becoming as big a movie presence as Dwayne Johnson, and this show will hopefully be a much bigger hit than Suicide Squad.

We got our first look at Black Adam.

Looks OK to me, though I’m still not sure how this movie is going to work. What is the plot going to be? Black Adam fights the Justice Society? I also can’t help but laugh at the Rock saying, “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change”. That’s such a weird phrase. There is no real DC Universe in the movies anymore, so is there really a hierarchy of power?

I still don’t think we’re ever going to get Shazam vs. Black Adam on the big screen…

There was also a teaser for The Flash.

First of all, that little bit of chest hair and the choker on Ezra Miller is kinda gross. But maybe that’s just me. I’m not particularly excited about The Flash. I think it’s going to be a really weird film. And having Michael Keaton return as Batman doesn’t really mean anything to me, to be honest. But hey, kudos to them all for actually getting this movie made.

Let’s switch to some video games before we wrap up.

I’m very excited for Gotham Knights.

As you all know, I’m a huge Robin fan. So a game where you play the various Robins — including Tim Drake as actual Robin — is a dream come true! Arkham-style gameplay, combined with co-op campaign, combined with Robin as a playable character, combined with costume building? Can. Not. Wait!

Likewise, I’m super excited about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

I have no idea what this game is going to be like. Also co-op? Also Arkham-style gameplay? I have no idea! But it looks very flashy in this cinematic trailer. So that’s good enough.

I think all of these things are going to arrive to our lives in 2022. It’ll be a long wait, but it’ll also be here soon enough. It’s all very exciting!
