Sadly, That Glorious Silver Batman Costume is Not Real
The internet got hyped the other day when DC Comics revealed this new costume for the Caped Crusader as part of the upcoming Batman #100. It also made its first proper appearance in this week’s Batman #95, though only for a single panel.
As expected, the internet comic fandom lost their minds at the idea of their beloved Batman in this glorious silver fashion explosion. Personally, I thought it looked pretty neat, but didn’t worry too much else about it. Then DC Comics’ official Twitter put out a Tweet that suggested this costume was something real and permanent going forward, and suddenly my interest was piqued!
Is this really something DC is going to do? Something new and exciting with the Dark Knight?
Nope. The internet became so bothered that current Batman comic writer James Tynion IV got on Twitter and quickly explained that this costume will only exist as part of a dream sequence in an upcoming story.
Which is fine. I guess.
But…but what if…what if that costume was real? What if DC’s promise of a “New Batsuit. New Villains. New Gotham.” was a legitimate promise of an entirely new style and direction going forward after Joker War and issue #100? What if this glorious image was real and this got to be our Batman for a the foreseeable future?!
I don’t know what this wonderful world would look like. It’s not my job to design the next generation’s Batman. But just imagine how funky it could be!
In the comics, Bruce Wayne just lost his billions. Alfred is dead. The Robins are estranged. He’s about to have a pretty final-feeling confrontation with the Joker. Man…just imagine the places Tynion could go! Maybe this is a costume that Batman wears out during the day! Maybe he’s more open about helping the community. Maybe he’s healing some of her personal demons!
Maybe he gets a new Robin? With a costume to match? Just throwing that out there…
But nope. This is just for a dream sequence, which is a shame. The future could have been so silver…
Oh, also, while I’m imbedding Tweets, comic book artist Dan Mora designed a Power Rangers version of Batman and Robin!
And he’s got some other superhero Power Rangers crossovers in his Twitter feed. Check them out, they’re pretty fun!

6 Potential Mind-Blowing Fates for Matt in Power Rangers
I was a huge Power Rangers fan back in the day. The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was my jam after school! It could also be argued that I’m an even bigger Power Rangers fan now, what with the truly excellent comics coming out of BOOM! Studios: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and its sister series, Go Go Power Rangers. Both comics are getting rebooted later this year, so now is a good time to talk about the elephant in the room.
This is Matthew Cook, or “Matt” to his friends the Power Rangers.
Matt was introduced in the very first issue of Go Go Power Rangers in late 2017. The series was a “Year One” style comic about the early days of the original Mighty Morphin team, and Matt was a big surprise twist. Writer Ryan Parrott revealed that the original team of friends that became the Power Rangers had another friend in the group who got left out. In fact, Matt was Kimberly’s boyfriend, and he introduced her to the group.
How crazy must that have been for Matt? Not only is Angel Grove attacked by monsters, but his friends and girlfriend suddenly start distancing themselves from him, clearly keeping a big secret that they’re apparently not going to share. Matt was involved in one storyline early on where Rita Repulsa kidnapped him and replaced him with an evil clone to torment the Rangers. And he did eventually find out that they were Power Rangers. But since then, Matt has mostly existed as a side character who occasionally chats with Kimberly when they pass in the hallway.
Surely Parrott and BOOM! have something more planned. Parrott will still be writing both in the upcoming relaunch; surely he has something epic and mind-blowing planned for Matt as a character. Why introduce such an interesting wrinkle in the history of the original Power Rangers if you’re not going to iron it out eventually? Surely Parrott has been building to something monumental…right?!
Join me after the jump for six crazy theories of what fate might have in store for Matt, the non-Ranger.

The world says comics, I say gimme! This is the week of San Diego Comic-Con…if the world allowed such a thing. In honor of this awesome occasion…I have read a bunch of comics, and will now prepare a bunch of reviews for you, my blog readers.
We’ve got new Strange Adventures! The long awaited return of Spider-Woman! And the debut of Marvel’s next Big Event, Empyre! Of which I haven’t read many of the tie-ins, but it was fine. Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for another excellent issue!
Meanwhile, I’ve dropped Lost on Planet Earth from my review cycle. I read the latest issue this week and…and I just don’t get this comic. I don’t enjoy it either. This was the worst issue yet and I’m just not the sort of guy who wants to keep ragging on a bad comic. So it’s gone! Poof! I wish everyone involved the best of luck on the series, but it ain’t for me.
Comic Reviews: Empyre #1, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #51, Spider-Woman #2 and Strange Adventures #3.

New #1 issues are simply part of the comic book industry. So the awesome Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic from BOOM! Studios will be relaunching at a new #1 later this year. The last regularly numbered issue will be #55.
The new comic will still be written by Ryan Parrott. It will be called Mighty Morphin and will continue on from where the current series is leaving off. So…basically…the comic is going to continue as normal, it’s just going to get a new #1 issue and a new title. The artist will be Marco Renna.
They’re also going to add a new Green Ranger to the current team. I’d say it’s a fair bet the new Green Ranger is Lord Drakkon, but BOOM! is being coy about it so far.
If the new Green Ranger is Matt then I will lose my freakin’ mind! But I still think it will be Drakkon.
Meanwhile, Parrott will also be writing another sister title called Power Rangers. This series is going to follow Jason, Trini and Zack as they move forward in their adventures as the Omega Rangers…so, uh…the title doesn’t really work? But then “Omega Rangers” doesn’t have any brand recognition.
The artist for this title will be Francesco Mortarino.
I’m glad the Omega Rangers are continuing, because that means there is still time to introduce Omega Pink. It might not be Garrison Vox anymore, but it could still be anybody. If the Omega Pink Ranger ends up being Matt, I will lost my freakin’ mind all over again!
Both new comics will arrive in November.

The 6 Characters I Would Use in Secret X-Men (My Dawn of X Comic)
It’s that time of year again: San Diego Comic-Con! Except the world sucks and those of us in America are going to die from a horrible virus that’s ravaging our dumbest states! Comic-Con, like everything else, was cancelled this year. They’re going to make a lot of big announcements virtually, and I’ll still report on them on this blog if they’re fun enough. But really, the main thing I care about is my annual tradition of fan-casting a superhero team!
And since San Diego Comic-Con is not real this year, then neither is my superhero team! Meet the Secret X-Men!
So basically, ever since Dawn of X revived and relaunched the X-Men franchise, we have seen all manner of new X-Men comics come and go. We’ve got X-Men, New Mutants, X-Force; we had Fallen Angels for a bit, and we’ve got Marauders and maybe the Hellions; a new X-Factor is supposed to be coming out. There’s a ton of freestyle X-Men books, is what I’m saying. Me being the creative chap that I am came up with one of my own: Secret X-Men. And since it’s probably far too late for me to get my foot in the door of Krakoa to pitch this idea to Marvel, I’m just going to make a fan-casting blog post about it!
I’ve done a bunch of these over the years. They’re basically just a fantasy game where I get to write some major team comics and pick my own roster. Last year was Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ve done the core X-Men team. I’ve done my version of X-Force. I’ve done the Avengers, the Justice League, the Fantastic Four, the Teen Titans, the Defenders and the Exiles. So enjoy those old lists and join me after the jump for my idea and the team roster of the Secret X-Men!
And feel free to share your own dream Dawn of X comics, real or imagined, in the comments below! This is just going to be a creativity free-for-all.
