The 6 Characters I Would Use in Secret X-Men (My Dawn of X Comic)

It’s that time of year again: San Diego Comic-Con! Except the world sucks and those of us in America are going to die from a horrible virus that’s ravaging our dumbest states! Comic-Con, like everything else, was cancelled this year. They’re going to make a lot of big announcements virtually, and I’ll still report on them on this blog if they’re fun enough. But really, the main thing I care about is my annual tradition of fan-casting a superhero team!

And since San Diego Comic-Con is not real this year, then neither is my superhero team! Meet the Secret X-Men!

Not these guys specifically! Scroll down!

So basically, ever since Dawn of X revived and relaunched the X-Men franchise, we have seen all manner of new X-Men comics come and go. We’ve got X-Men, New Mutants, X-Force; we had Fallen Angels for a bit, and we’ve got Marauders and maybe the Hellions; a new X-Factor is supposed to be coming out. There’s a ton of freestyle X-Men books, is what I’m saying. Me being the creative chap that I am came up with one of my own: Secret X-Men. And since it’s probably far too late for me to get my foot in the door of Krakoa to pitch this idea to Marvel, I’m just going to make a fan-casting blog post about it!

I’ve done a bunch of these over the years. They’re basically just a fantasy game where I get to write some major team comics and pick my own roster. Last year was Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ve done the core X-Men team. I’ve done my version of X-Force. I’ve done the Avengers, the Justice League, the Fantastic Four, the Teen Titans, the Defenders and the Exiles. So enjoy those old lists and join me after the jump for my idea and the team roster of the Secret X-Men!

And feel free to share your own dream Dawn of X comics, real or imagined, in the comments below! This is just going to be a creativity free-for-all.

The First Wave of Comic-Con Trailers Are Here!

The best, easiest way for me to share the geeky joy coming out of Comic-Con is with movie trailers. They’re easy to post on this blog and require little work on my part. So how about we check out a bunch of them?

First up is the trailer for the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which looks insane and potentially awesome! I was a big Kevin Smith fan back in the day, during his good movie years. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the first movie I went to see when I moved away to college. So I’m excited for this new film.

It’s probably not going to be very good. But it looks like Kevin Smith is just gonna go nuts, reflecting on his entire life and career. That should be more than enough to be weirdly awesome!

How about the new trailer for It 2!

Looks confidently scary and spooky. The first one was really good. Did I ever tell you henchies that I saw It twice in theaters? I saw it at the same theater a week apart with two different dates. It was weird, but funny in hindsight.

Next up is Top Gun: Maverick, a super weird return.

I was never super into the original Top Gun. It’s a fine film, and I saw it as a kid, but it wasn’t life changing. So to bring Tom Cruise back for a sequel some 30 years later? Yeah, sure, I suppose that’s what people are doing these days. The trailer looks alright. Here’s hoping it’s worth watching.

Stay tuned to my blog over the next couple of days for even more trailers and any other news I can squeeze out of Comic-Con!

More SDCC Trailers Give Us Doctor Who and a Really Bad Ninja Turtles

I am just one man, blogging, while also at my day job. There’s a very good chance I won’t get to everything that comes out this weekend from San Diego Comic-Con. But I can post a new trailer like anybody’s business! And these are a bunch that arrived last night!

First up, a proper teaser trailer for the new season of Doctor Who, starring Jodie Whittaker. I like this much better than the quickie we got earlier in the week. We get some actual Doctor in this one, some real personality.

Next up is a story trailer for the Spider-Man game coming to Playstation 4 on Sept. 7. Now that I actually own a Playtation 4, I’m actually very excited about this game. So any new look at what we’re going to get is exciting.

Even if it still runs the risk of being a bad game. We’ll see.

Another trailer we got is a look at the return of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I quite enjoyed that cartoon, and I guess enough fans did as well that Disney is bringing it back for another batch of brand new episodes!

Anything that gives us more Ahsoka Tano is good news to me! Even if the ultimate Ahsoka/Darth Vader showdown already exists.

Finally, we got another look at that new Ninja Turtles cartoon, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This first look also provides a couple minutes of actual episode. And I can honestly say I won’t be having anything to do with this show. It looks terrible.

That’s not to say I’m one of those bitter fans complaining about how this new show is killing my childhood. Not at all. I’m simply recognizing that this show is not meant for me, and therefore I won’t take part. The animation, the comedy, the entire style of the show is just not for me. But I wish everybody involved the best of luck and I hope their take on the Turtles is successful.

Be sure to keep returning to my blog today as I dutifully attempt to upload all of the trailers and news that I either can or care about.

SDCC Kicks Off With Scary Dark Titans Trailer!

I am very excited for live action Robin on the new TV show Titans. So I’m also very excited to see this thing for myself. Well the first trailer has arrived to kick off San Diego Comic-Con, and it’s dark and brutal as all hell!

It’s like…how do we go for the complete opposite of Teen Titans Go! on every conceivable level? I think it’s a bold choice, and not one I’m very confident that DC can pull off.

But hey, it’s a serious, live action Robin, so you better believe I’m going to give it a chance! This sort of thing only comes around once in a generation! Hopefully DC doesn’t screw it up like they did with Chris O’Donnell.

Also in SDCC news from DC Comics, Grant Morrison is coming back to write a police procedural Green Lantern comic, and I near about blew my lid! That is, like, everything I could possibly want from Green Lantern comics. I’m really excited about this one!
