Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/15/20
I have an addiction to ordering graphic novels on Amazon. Admitting I have a problem is the first step. But in better news, I finally have my hands on Spider-Man: Life Story! I’ll let you know what I think!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Thor #3, because nothing tickles my pinks quite like an awesome guest appearance from Beta Ray Bill!
Meanwhile, I didn’t like the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. I suppose one argument could be made that I should cut an obvious kids’ movie some slack, but we’ve all seen good kids movies. This is just a dumb film filled with cliches and tropes. And they don’t really get Sonic right. He’s all about attitude, but movie Sonic is a hopeful, lonely kid who just wants a friend. And as the tropes dictate, he gets at least one.

Oh man, what a great week for comics! Some of my current favorites came out this week, including phenomenal new issues of Far Sector and Wonder Twins! Those are probably my two favorite DC comics right now.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Moprhin Power Rangers #47 for a great issue that features a moment of real poignancy.
Meanwhile, BOOM! Studios has decided to cancel Go Go Power Rangers. This is a damn shame, because it’s a great comic. But after the shakeup a couple issues ago, both Go Go and Mighty Morphin are a bit redundant, so this move makes sense.
Comic Reviews: Batman #87, Far Sector #3, Marauders #6, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #47 and Wonder Twins #11.

New comic books are here! And they’re pretty awesome this week! New issues of Go Go Power Rangers and Jane Foster: Valkyrie prove once again why I love comics! But as great as they are, there was an issue that was just a touch more special this week.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Legion of Super-Heroes #3 because it’s a fun issue, and that is surprising. It’s not the best and most interesting comic this week, but the new Legion issue does something I didn’t expect: finally warrants its own existence.
Meanwhile, new Dawn of X comics keep getting announced left and right. I’m still worried that all of these comics are just classic X-Men titles with random rosters, just like every other X-Men relaunch…but then Jonathan Hickman posted on Twitter that nobody is required to buy them all. Just buy what you like, and don’t buy what you don’t. That’s pretty solid advice.

My 10 Favorite Comics of the 2010s
Another decade has come and gone and we are all, therefore, another decade older. I know I’m feeling it! Let us distract ourselves from such mortal concerns by reflecting on my favorite comic books from the past 10 years!
My memory isn’t all that great, but I’ve looked back over my various comic reviews and favorites lists and I think I’ve narrowed down a good list of 10 comics that I very much enjoyed. This blog started in 2011, so I’ve definitely been talking about a lot of comics over the past 10 years. It was a pretty monumental decade! We had the New 52 from DC Comics and the influence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Marvel Comics.
This was also the decade where I finally started writing my own comics! Gamer Girl & Vixen has been doing pretty well, and volume 2 is in production!
Join me after the jump as I take a look back at my favorite comics from the past decade! They are not in any particular order.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/21/19
Holy moly, people! Because Christmas falls on a Wednesday next week, every single comic company is dumping ALL OF THEIR COMICS this week! We’ve got nearly half a dozen Dawn of X comics, along with the likes of Powers Rangers, Runaways, Legion of Super-Heroes and, to top it all off, the finale to Tom King’s Batman saga and the mid-season finale to Dan Slott’s Iron Man! There’s so many comics!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the final issue of King Thor! Jason Aaron finishes his legendary run with a truly masterful goodbye that’s both exciting and heartfelt. And Thor: God Cop.
Meanwhile, in non-comic book but otherwise important news, I enjoyed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. I’ll have my full review and thoughts on Wednesday, but for right now, I liked the movie. Or more precisely, I liked the grand finale with all its crazy big action and solid character moments. It seems I’m a sucker for good, quality Star Wars fan service.
