My Star Wars Original Character

Due to popular demand (from the one of you readers who actually comments on my Facebook posts), I’m going to take the time today to introduce you all to my original Star Wars character. I’m sure we all have one. We’re all creative and imaginative types here. Surely the depth and breadth of the Star Wars universe has opened all of us up to an original character idea or two. I know I’ve got a couple.

But there’s one that exists at the top of my creative ladder, who I will cling to in the desperate hopes that I get my hands on some creative Star Wars project someday.

And that character is Stormtrooper Bounty Hunter. I haven’t really given him a proper name yet. But I have created him via LEGO, sort of. The design isn’t final.

Stormtrooper OC 01

Standing atop the quite awesome LEGO Millennium Falcon

Stormtrooper Bounty Hunter is from the post-Return of the Jedi/pre-The Force Awakens time period, and is basically little more than a bounty hunter wearing Stormtrooper armor — an idea both he and I have stolen directly from Boba Fett.

Way back in the day, before Attack of the Clones gave him an origin story, and before The Clone Wars cartoon explored the Mandalorians, the prevailing theory about Boba Fett was that he was just a badass bounty hunter who used the armor of a long-lost warrior race to look really cool while doing his job. We didn’t know anything about Boba Fett or the Mandalorians, just that he’d repurposed their armor into his cool bounty hunter look.

So I thought to myself: what if somebody does that with an old set of Stormtrooper armor sometime in the future, after the Empire is gone?

You take the classic Stormtrooper set and then deck it out with cool accouterments, like wookiee pelts or a jet pack or guns or bandoliers. I dunno, whatever looks cool.  And there you’ve got another cool bounty hunter character to exist in the Star Wars universe.

Personality-wise, I picture him as a Deadpool-type. Not the crazy stuff or the Fourth Wall-breaking. Just the Merc with a Mouth stuff, where he’s smarmy, quippy and a charming jackass. Stormtrooper Bounty Hunter would be a risk-taking, devil-may-care asshole who is just funny enough to be likable.

Oddly enough, my character idea is very similar to Stormtrooper X.

Trooper X 01

My mind has come alive!

Stormtrooper X is a pirate who also wears old, re-purposed Stormtrooper armor, and is a bit of a universal badass. Stormtrooper X and Stormtrooper Bounty Hunter share many similarities, but I assure you, this is merely coincidence. Stormtrooper X has only ever appeared in a single article about interesting bounties from the sixth issue of Star Wars Gamer magazine, which came out in 2001.

I have never read Star Wars Gamer magazine. This is just a cosmic coincidence of two people thinking to re-purpose old Stormtrooper armor into something badass and cool down the line.

Hopefully someday, I can flesh out Stormtrooper Bounty Hunter some more and make him into a real character. My dream is to become a comic book writer for Marvel, who are currently publishing Star Wars comics. So in the world of my wildest dreams, this could happen. And what kind of world would it be if we couldn’t cling to our wildest dreams?

Also, if you fancy yourself a fan of teenage fan fiction, you’re welcome to read my Star Wars prequels fan fiction from when I was…oh jeez, looking at the date on this thing, I was a freshman in college when I wrote this. I was that old?! Jeez louise…

Anyway, here’s the link, if you have nothing better to do with your afternoon. It’s full of really bad fan characters.

And hey, feel free to share your own Star Wars OC in the comments below! We’re all Star Wars fans here.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/23/18

This was a really fortunate week for comics! A ton of comics came out that I like to read, and since I had Wednesday off from work, I had plenty of time to sit and read a whole bunch! This is a jam-packed review column!

We’ve got some pretty stellar issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Justice League and especially Runaways, with some middlingly OK issues of Batman, Avengers and Man of Steel. The standout for the week — and Comic Book of the Week — is the first issue of Dan Slott’s Tony Stark – Iron Man. It was a fun introduction to Slott’s new series.

The future of Iron Man is tiny

Meanwhile, I finished all of Gwenpool, and it was really nice, with an especially powerful ending. Totally worth buying all those books. Now I can’t wait to see her in West Coast Avengers, and I’m even considering buying her action figure, just to have a memento. She’s a really fun character.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #801, Avengers #3, Batman #49, Justice League #2, Man of Steel #4, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #28, Runaways #10 and Tony Stark – Iron Man #1.

Time to Go Watch Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom!

I’mma gonna head to the movie theater after getting off work today to go see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I still think that’s a terrible name. Fallen Kingdom? What sort of subtitle is that? Honestly, they should have gone with Jurassic World: The Lost Park.

Thanks to Honest Trailers for giving me funny videos to post when I’m feeling lazy and figure everybody could use a fun laugh!

Strong Guy Watch: He Made It To the Wedding!

Strong Guy made it to the wedding of Colossus and Shadowcat! X-Men Gold #30 came out this week, the highly celebrated wedding issue. Strong Guy was prominent on the cover, and considering his risky business over in New Mutants, I was a little worried for him.

But he’s still alive and he made it to the wedding!

Strong Guy Wedding 03

Is that the bride’s side or the groom’s side?

That’s his only appearance, his only panel. But he got a seat in the back, is wearing a nice suit and I’m sure he went to all the nice parties. So it’s not that big of a deal, but this is Strong Guy Watch and we watch for Strong Guy wherever he might be! He’s doing great in New Mutants right now, where they mentioned that he got his soul back! Good for him.

And remember, next week is the first issue of Multiple Man! Maybe he’ll show up in that too.

No spoilers for the actual wedding issue. Just know that Kelly Thompson will be writing more X-Men and I’m very, very excited about that!

6 Dinosaur Movie Franchises We Need Beyond Jurassic World

Why is the Jurassic World franchise the only major movie franchise starring dinosaurs? How is that the world we live in? Dinosaurs are awesome! Everybody loves dinosaurs! Why does no other franchise try to grab onto that big, brass thunder lizard ring?

Especially when there are so many great dinosaur franchises out there to pick from!

Dino Live Action List 01

I hope the T-Rex is in this one!

Far be it for me to suggest Hollywood come up with some original dinosaur ideas. Just do what Hollywood does normally and grab an existing TV or book franchise and give it a live action movie. Why they haven’t done this yet for at least half this list is beyond me. Maybe Steven Spielberg has some sort of iron grip throughout Hollywood on dinosaurs? That’s probably the only excuse I will accept.

Dinosaurs are awesome. There are plenty of dinosaur cartoons, video games and books out there. Join me after the jump for my suggestions for new live action dinosaur movie franchises!
