Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/30/18
The week we’ve all been waiting for is here! The first issue of Multiple Man has hit the stands and is in my hands! Longtime readers of this blog will know that Multiple Man is my all-time favorite comic book character. So I am very excited that he’s back in print after being in limbo/dead for years now.
And no, August solicitation for Multiple Man #4, I don’t just tell people he’s my favorite to seem cool. Stop gatekeeping your own comic book.
Unfortunately, Multiple Man #1 is not Comic Book of the Week. It was an OK issue, as you’ll read in a bit. The real standout this week was the 50th issue of Ms. Marvel!
Meanwhile, anybody else excited for Ant-Man and the Wasp next weekend? Woohoo!
Comic Reviews: Man of Steel #5, Ms. Marvel #31, Multiple Man #1, The Silencer #6, Thor #2 and The Terrifics #5.
LEGO Voltron is Everything I’ve Ever Wanted From This Sad, Stupid World
The day I’ve been waiting nearly two years for has arrived: LEGO Voltron stands revealed! The massive, multi-lion LEGO set will be available to purchase on Aug. 1 for about $180.
Oh man, I’ve been salivating over this. It’s a work of freakin’ art! I was a big Voltron fan as a kid, and I’m a big fan of the current revival on Netflix. I had all of the Voltron lion action figures as a kid. They were such fun toys.
Now Voltron is coming in LEGO form, in a giant model that stands over a foot tall! And you’ll be making each individual lion, with the ability to combine them into Voltron later. That is genius and awesome and life isn’t supposed to be this much fun.
Check out more pictures and information on the LEGO website.

The individual lions look a little small
If you can recall, Voltron was one of the LEGO Ideas products, which lets fans build their own models and submit them for selection. It’s the same way we got Doctor Who LEGO and Ghostbusters LEGO. I love that this thing exists and I love that it’s given us Voltron.
Granted, we don’t get the Paladins as mini-figs, which is disappointing. But I can live with that sort of disappointment.
I might have to take the day off from work. Or the week…

Live Action Robin Looks Hella Cool!
DC and Warner Bros. held some sort of press conference on their DC Universe streaming service this morning, and I was not invited. I’m never invited to any of these things. I don’t mind, though, because I’m nobody special.
You can read all of the details here. Basically, it’s gonna be a streaming service with some new DC shows, like Titans and a Harley Quinn cartoon, which should be awesome. I’ll find ways to watch all of it. Plus the service will have all the classic DC cartoons and movies.
What I really wanted to draw everyone’s attention to was the awesome Robin shots that came along with the press conference. Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson looks hella damn cool!
That is a gorram viable live action Robin costume and you all know it! So don’t let Hollywood feed you any nonsense that Robin can’t work in a live action, serious Batman movie. This costume proves it, and I’m sure the show will too.
Robin is awesome, end of story.

Strong Guy Watch: Strong Guy and Multiple Man, Together Again!
The first issue of the new Multiple Man mini-series arrived today, and my hopes and dreams were answered when Strong Guy made an appearance. It helps that Matt Rosenberg is writing both Multiple Man and New Mutants, of course.
For those who don’t know, Strong Guy and Multiple Man are best pal!
Though you wouldn’t be able to tell from this comic. Despite being features somewhat prominently as a supporting character in this issue, I don’t think Jamie and Guido say more than two words to each other. Guido never even expresses any real excitement that his best pal is back from the dead.
That’s kind of a downer for a super-fan like me, but after reading the issue, I need to learn to chill out and just let this story be told. Hopefully Strong Guy stays in the mini-series.

6 Thoughts on the Second Season of Luke Cage
Despite a big dip in quality, and despite Disney planning its own streaming service before too long, the Netflix Defenders shows are still going and we got the second season of Luke Cage this past weekend! Seeing as how I’m never going to quit these shows, I binged the whole season over the past few days and want to share my thoughts. Largely, I liked it!
TV Rating: 7/10 – Good.
The second season of Luke Cage was a definite upswing from the past few disappointing seasons of the Netflix Defenders shows. It was a solid, enjoyable season with some standout moments and episodes — though not nearly as many as I would have liked. I definitely echo what pretty much every other critic says about these shows: 13 episodes is way too many. Not a single one of these shows has produced a season-long storyline that requires all 13 episodes. It’s weird why they keep trying. Do they really not have any other tricks up their sleeves? Like some entertaining one-off episodes or something?
Regardless, I liked the second season of Luke Cage. Join me after the jump for my full review! Expect FULL SPOILERS for the entire season.
