6 Thoughts on Pokemon GO

It’s been a month now since Pokemon GO took over the world, and I’d like to think everything has changed for the better — though I suppose nothing has really changed at all. The world is still the world. And Pokemon GO has not yet become the perfect game it was always meant to be. It’s got a long way to go and a lot of updates ahead of itself. But hey, at least it’s fun.

Pikachus are way too rare

Right now, I’m level 18 and am on Team Valor. I’ve seen and caught 60 pokemon with a pretty empty Pokedex. I’ve captured a few gyms, but one can’t really hold a gym for long. I’m not really in it for the gyms anyway. My strongest team is made up of mostly Eevee evolutions, because that’s just pretty easy, apparently. And I catch more Weedles and Rattatas than one would ever want. Fortunately, that just keeps boosting up my Stardust reserve for when I really need that stuff down the line.

I’m excited to see the world get into a pokemon mood, and I’m doubly excited now for Pokemon Sun and Moon coming in November. So join me after the jump for my thoughts on the phenomenon that is Pokemon GO!

No Sign of Robin in Telltale Batman Game; Literally Unplayable

There’s going to be another Batman video game later this Summer, and it’s going to be made by the Telltale people, who specialize in point-and-click adventure stories. They’re the geniuses behind The Walking Dead game, so Batman is probably in good hands.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of Robin in this game, so what’s even the point? Should I even bother playing? Maybe Clementine will cameo and it’ll all be worth it.

6 Pop Culture Characters I Love For No Particular Reason

I think this blog is testament to the fact that I am a pop culture aficionado. I love movies, TV shows, books, comics, video games and all manner of storytelling and fiction. I hope to be a fiction writer myself some day, and am even working on my own comic book. And like all good people of this Earth, I have my favorite characters in my favorite media.

But sometimes, those favorites don’t make much sense.

Go, Green Ranger, go go!

Leonardo is my favorite Ninja Turtle because of his noble spirit and badass katana blades. The Green Ranger is my favorite Power Ranger because he was this cool, rebellious sixth Ranger. Multiple Man is my favorite superhero because I like his sense of humor, and because he was one of the characters who helped usher young Sean into a better understanding of superhero comics. I love Robin the Boy Wonder because I’ve always considered myself more of a sidekick than a leader, especially when compared to some of my more alpha male friends back in my youth.

But there are some characters out there whom I love passionately, but have no legitimate reason why. Join me after the jump to find out who!

6 Superheroes I Would Pay For in Marvel’s Avengers Academy Game

Against my better judgement and all odds, I’m still playing Marvel’s Avengers Academy mobile game. I didn’t have very many nice things to say about it in my List Review, but the entire point of mobile games like this are to just stay hooked and never let go. Sadly, I must admit than the prospect of seeing this alternate Marvel Universe expand has me hanging on.

Good thing I haven’t spent one red cent on the game.

You’ll never get me, game developers!

Ostensibly, Avengers Academy would probably love to have me pay them actual money to play. They offer all manner of tantalizing doodads to buy, from event currency to special decorations to, most tempting of all: unique characters. Were I so inclined, I could buy the likes of Spider-Woman, Vision, War Machine, Captain Britain or Sif to join my Academy…but I’m not. I’m not about to spend a dime!

Unless, perhaps, Avengers Academy offers any of the following characters.

6 Marvel Superhero Video Games I Want To Play

The big superhero video game news this week is that Spider-Man is finally coming back to gaming! It won’t be a movie tie-in or a kiddie game. Instead, it looks to be a return to glory with Spidey swinging around a digital Manhattan! They perfected the gameplay back with the now-legendary Spider-Man 2 game back on the Playstation 2. Surely the Playstation 4 era can do something just as good.

I’m OK with the white logo

Beyond the new Spider-Man game, word is also coming out of Marvel that they want to put more effort into their superhero video games. No longer will they churn out crummy movie tie-in games. It sounds like Marvel wants to do for their video games what they built for their movies. Perhaps the overwhelming success of the Batman: Arkham franchise has convinced Marvel that there is money and notoriety to be had in the world of video games!

This sounds great to me (even though I don’t own a Playstation 4, and likely won’t get to play the new Spider-Man game)! And I’m just the guy to offer Marvel a few suggestions for possible video games.
