6 Thoughts on Venom: Let There Be Carnage
We are now living in a world where the Venom sequel might just top most of the major Marvel Studios movie releases this year. Venom: Let There Be Carnage exploded at the opening weekend box office, earning more than $90 million, beating the three day opening weekend totals of both Black Widow and Shang-Chi. Granted, these are pandemic numbers, but still! Venom 2 is apparently a popular movie!
Movie Rating: 6/10 – Pretty Good
I saw Venom: Let There Be Carnage opening night, because that’s how I roll with most superhero movies. I was a lukewarm fan of the first film, finding it to be a rather dumb affair, held aloft solely by the insane fun of Tom Hardy’s dual lead performances. The sequel brings all of that back, while also finally bringing Carnage into a live action movie. Fans have been waiting for Carnage for a very long time. Did he live up to the hype?

The next Disney animated movie is Encanto, a story about a magical house and the magical family that lives inside — if by “magical” we mean they each have a super-power. But hey, lots of people get their super powers through magic, so who am I to judge? Check out the first full trailer.
Looks pretty great to me! Wonderful animation, some good humor, lots of impressive visuals. This should be another Disney animated treat!
Encanto comes to theaters on Nov. 24.

Tom Hanks, a Robot and a Dog
September has been pretty barren when it comes to new movies. But this random Tom Hanks trailer arrived a couple days ago and it could be pretty fun. The movie is called Finch.
It looks fine. Tom Hanks is always a treat, and now he’s got an adorable dog and an adorable robot. Why does he build the robot again? Just as a hobby at the end of the world? I suppose we’ll have to watch the movie to find out.
Finch comes to AppleTV+ on Nov. 5.

We’re Going Back Into The Matrix!
The Matrix Resurrections is coming in December (hopefully) and we finally have a trailer! Let us dive back into that crazy world with a pretty awesome trailer, showing off a lot of really awesome visuals.
Looks good to me! I’m as much of a Matrix fan as everybody else. Perhaps even more so, because I actually like both sequels. And I’m ready for this new film. I’m as skeptical as anybody else when it comes to reviving franchises with a new sequel after several decades, but at least this new movie has one of the Wachowski sisters back to helm the project. That counts for a lot. And all of the actors look fine.
The movie also looks visually magnificent. So huzzah to The Matrix Resurrections! Coming out on Dec. 22!

6 Thoughts on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is here and it was awesome! I was very excited for this movie, excited to see martial arts done right on the big screen and excited for the newness of the whole endeavor. I’m also a big fan of representation in media, so I was excited to see Marvel bring an Asian main character into the MCU.
Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
I wasn’t as completely blown away by the movie as I was hoping to be. I had really high hopes for Shang-Chi, and they were mostly met. It’s another fine, enjoyable Marvel movie. I liked everybody in the movie and I definitely look forward to everyone showing up again, both in a sequel and in some future team-ups. I look forward to them joining the circus, and I hope the success Shang-Chi has seen at the box office during the pandemic is more than enough for Marvel to greenlight sequels and more.
