6 Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
We have come to the end of an era. After years of waiting, a ton of behind-the-scenes madness, and a bunch of Marvel movie phases, we’ve finally reached the grand finale of the Guardians of the Galaxy series. I’m excited and sad in equal measure. It’s a shame we’ll never seen this team again, written and directed by James Gunn. But I also feel like we’ve had a lot of adventures with them, and it’ll be good to let them rest.
Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great
I had a great time with this film. I have few, if any, real complaints. I have loved the Guardians of the Galaxy movies since the beginning. I loved the comics that inspired the movies, I loved the heck out of those first trailers, and I have all the faith in the world in James Gunn. The man is at the top of his career right now, putting out golden projects left and right. So I’m very pleased that Vol. 3 turned out as good as it is. Everyone involved should be pleased and proud.

The highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming out this week and I am very excited! It’s gonna be a blast, and I even took the day off from work so that I can go to the early Thursday afternoon showing in my local theater! But the awesomeness comes with some bittersweetness, as this will be our last adventure with these Guardians. James Gunn is moving on to other pastures and has said he’s done. So even if Marvel continues the franchise, it’s going to be entirely different, probably.
And everybody is pretty sure that a lot of Guardians are going to die
Now, I don’t want anybody to die. I don’t require character deaths to give a movie stakes or real emotion. But death is probably inevitable in this movie for someone. So who could I handle dying? If somebody has to die, will I be OK if certain characters bite the dust over others? I’m going to have to be! This might be a morbid list, but fate has brought us to this point, and some of these characters are going to have to face the music.

The Super Bowl aired this past weekend and it was probably fine. I didn’t watch. Not my thing. I’m more into superhero movies! And we got some big trailers for some superhero movies during the Big Game. Not as many trailers as I expected — no Marvels teaser? — but enough to share the two of them today!
First up is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! It’s funny, it’s charming, it’s a little all over the place, but is otherwise solid.
I’m obviously excited for this one. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are great. James Gunn is great. I’m sure he has so much planned, both happy and sad. It’s gonna live up to the hype of the trilogy and this one last ride will be a hoot.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out on May 5.
Then we have The Flash, and this movie puzzles me so much. It’s been in production hell for years. It’s star, Ezra Miller, is some kind of psychopath, and that’s being glossed over. And, quite honestly, this movie seems to care more about Batman than it does the Flash.
Tell me this isn’t just Batman: No Way Home. Tell me this isn’t just using the Flash as the engine to crossing the multiverse, just so DC can hype up Michael Keaton’s return as Batman as the selling point of this movie. Surely no general audiences really care about the Flash. He hasn’t been on the big screen since the Justice League movie. I’ll grant you, there do seem to be Flash-based plot points and story threads, but this trailer is all about showing us that Batman is in the movie.
Man, I just don’t care that Michael Keaton’s Batman is back. He’s old. It’s not gonna be the same. And I, personally, do not need an entire movie to reset the universe so that the new stuff can come in. That’s what boggles my mind the most. The DCEU is not such a storied institution that it needs an in-universe explanation for why we’re gonna be getting new stuff. Just make the new stuff.
Ah well, who am I even complaining to? I’m still gonna go see The Flash when it comes to theaters on June 16.

Guardians, Beast Wars and Indiana Jones All Dropped Trailers Yesterday
A big comic convention took place in Brazil yesterday, and that led to a whole bunch of big, new trailers arriving online. A lot of them are probably gearing up for Avatar: The Way of Water, but what sort of Thursday gives us the first trailers for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? These are three big movies that I’m really excited about! Or at least two of them. I’m not big on Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
I was never a big Indiana Jones fans. I loved the movies as a kid, sure, but I’m no super fan. And Kingdom of the Crystal Skull didn’t make anybody happy. But we’re back with Dial of Destiny and it looks fine. Pretty much fun. Harrison Ford looks old and Harrison Fordy. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will hopefully be cool. But ultimately we’re all going to be sad that they couldn’t squeeze Short Round into this movie. He’s acting again. Did you see Everything Everywhere All At Once? It’s a masterpiece!
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny comes to theaters on June 30.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
I loved Beast Wars. I even loved Beast Machines! They were great shows, really cutting edge in the 1990s for a multitude of reasons, not just the CGI animation. It had rich stories, rich characters and that one cool Maximal that was half wolf/half eagle. Silverbolt! He’s my favorite! But he’s not gonna be in this movie. I’m excited for this film. I didn’t even know it was happening! I thought they were maybe making a Beast Wars chapter of that recent Transformers Netflix cartoon? I dunno…guess it’s a full movie!
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will arrive on June 9.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Here’s the one we’ve been waiting for! We should have gotten this movie years ago, if it wasn’t for all that trouble James Gunn had. I think it’s all worked out for the best, though. We got The Suicide Squad, we got Peacemaker, we got the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and we’re still getting Volume 3. So it’s all worked out nicely. And this one should be amazing! Gunn is gonna tug on all of our heart strings by finishing Rocket’s story. Should be a hoot.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out on May 5.

They’re Gonna Follow Up on that Adam Warlock Teaser from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Good news, everybody! Remember when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had a handful of mid and post-credits scenes, and one of them teased Adam Warlock? Turns out Marvel and James Gunn are definitely going to follow up on that teaser and bring Adam Warlock into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!
And he’s gonna be played by Will Poulter. Good for him.
But don’t take my word for it. James Gunn himself confirmed the news on Twitter, after Deadline broke the story. So yeah, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock.
OK. Fine by me. I don’t have opinions on either the person or the character. But you’re damn right I trust James Gunn.
