My 10 Favorite Comics of the 2010s

Another decade has come and gone and we are all, therefore, another decade older. I know I’m feeling it! Let us distract ourselves from such mortal concerns by reflecting on my favorite comic books from the past 10 years!

Fav Comics 10s List 13

It was a nice decade in comics

My memory isn’t all that great, but I’ve looked back over my various comic reviews and favorites lists and I think I’ve narrowed down a good list of 10 comics that I very much enjoyed. This blog started in 2011, so I’ve definitely been talking about a lot of comics over the past 10 years. It was a pretty monumental decade! We had the New 52 from DC Comics and the influence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Marvel Comics.

This was also the decade where I finally started writing my own comics! Gamer Girl & Vixen has been doing pretty well, and volume 2 is in production!

Join me after the jump as I take a look back at my favorite comics from the past decade! They are not in any particular order.

Kamala Khan is Definitely Going to Star in the Avengers Video Game

We guessed this when the first trailers came out, but the upcoming Avengers video game is going to star Kamala Khan! That’s great! Though this first footage of her gameplay still makes me think this game is going to be totally on rails.

The cut scene animations, story and character acting all seem great, though. As excited as I am for a good Avengers game, especially one starring Ms. Marvel, I’m probably going to wait for the reviews on this one. This game could have all the polish in the world, but still be boring if you’re just doing what the game tells you to do at all times.

We’ll see. The Avengers game comes out on May 15.

Kamala Khan Pours Her Cereal Like a Monster!

I am a breakfast cereal man. I was born a breakfast cereal man; I will die a breakfast cereal man. The more sugary the better. But at least I know how to properly combine cereal and milk into a bowl, unlike a certain millennial superhero.

Kamala Cereal Pour 01

Oh, and her dad is dying

What is she even doing?! She’s supposed to be a role model! You can’t just wildly pour the milk and cereal into the bowl at the same time! Since when is she so ambidextrous?

You pour the cereal in first, followed by the milk. Easy peasy. This is just uncalled for.

And that has been your latest hot tip here at Henchman4Hire! None of you internet users will be able to resist this clickbait!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/24/19

What a roller coaster week for comic book fans! In the same week that we lose Spider-Man in the MCU (for now), we also learn that we’re getting Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk in the MCU! Honestly, I’m OK with that trade, though I’m confident Disney and Sony will return to the bargaining table. Spider-Man isn’t even part of Phase 4, so there’s plenty of time.

At least this week’s comics were pretty great! Batman, Jimmy Olsen, Iron Man, Valkyrie; all quality comics. But I’m going to give Comic Book of the Week to Powers of X #3 for a twist that gives this event a nice shot to the arm as we near the midway point.

And just for an instant, Xorn is cool

Meanwhile, I may give up on Guardians of the Galaxy for now. I’ve always been lukewarm about this comic. It’s fine and enjoyable, and clearly well written, but it hasn’t really been doing anything for me, personally. The latest issue is mostly a recap of Rocket Raccoon’s origins, coupled with what turns out to be a really lame reason why everybody hates Rocket. Maybe I’ll keep trying going forward, but based on solicitations for November, Beta Ray Bill might be moving on to a new Annihilation story anyway.

Of course, that comic is written by Matthew Rosenberg, killer of superheroes, so maybe Bill’s inclusion is a bad sign.

Comic Reviews: Batman #77, Jimmy Olsen #2, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #6, Powers of X #3, Tony Stark – Iron Man #15 and Valkyrie #2.

Those Geniuses! They’ve Done It! My Ms. Marvel Dreams Are Alive!

Sweet Joseph McGillicutty! If you thought Marvel was worried about losing Spider-Man, they are apparently more than ready to just continue full steam ahead with everything else they’ve got at the ready! At the D23 convention tonight, they have announced new TV shows for Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk!

They’re coming to the Disney+ streaming service in the years ahead, so they’ll be made by Marvel Studios and not Marvel TV.

MsMarvel TV 02

Moon Knight TV 02

She Hulk TV 02

We don’t have any details yet on what these shows will contain. Maybe we’ll learn more as the weekend continues, and I’ll gladly share anything that I learn. But man, this is damn exciting.

I think a Marvel Studios-produced TV show is the perfect way to introduce Kamala Khan, especially if it means she can jump to the movies eventually (Young Avengers!).

And while I’ve been previously opposed to bringing She-Hulk into the MCU, I think she’d work perfectly with the new Professor Hulk we’ve got!

What a time to be alive! Here’s hoping I make it to 40 so I can see all of these! Just hook it to my veins!
