6 Thoughts on Spider-Man: No Way Home
Whoo baby, what a movie! I’ll admit to being mostly lukewarm about Marvel’s superhero movies this year, despite liking all of them. But now we have Spider-Man: No Way Home and I’m reminded by Marvel Studios is such a powerhouse of a production company! I’m reminded by Marvel Studios is so damn smart when it comes to utilizing their properties and bringing the very best movies to bear on the big screen. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a superhero movie marvel.
Movie Rating: 10/10 – Fantastic!
I cannot heap enough praise on this film. I have been watching Spider-Man movies all of my adult life. The first Tobey Maguire Spidey movie came out after my freshman year of college, and I haven’t missed a Spider-Man movie in the theaters since. And I’ve enjoyed them all. I even liked the Amazing Spider-Man movies. And I especially loved Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With No Way Home, these filmmakers have done the seemingly impossible. They have taken all of our nostalgia, all of our expectations, all of our hopes and dreams, and have put together a truly spectacular movie, and a truly amazing Spider-Man movie on top of that.

Marvel Studios officially announced a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings this week after signing director Destin Daniel Cretton to a new contract. That’s great news! Shang-Chi was an awesome flick and there is a ton of sequel potential. Simu Liu, Awkwafina and the whole enterprise are ripe for becoming a new corner stone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am here for it.
So what’s a sequel going to feature? Shang-Chi has almost zero comic book lore to draw from. Marvel has tried again and again to give him some stories, some background and some anything, but none of it has ever really cracked the comic book consciousness. And The Legend of the Ten Rings came up with a lot of its own original mythology and lore anyway. So the canvas is wide open to come up with plenty of ideas and directions. That’s great and all, but a comic book dork like me knows a lot of Marvel stuff to draw from for a sequel!

Marvel superhero content is a never-ending stream of movies and TV shows these days, and here comes another one. I have always been very hesitant about Eternals. They’re a pretty unpopular and uninteresting faction in the comics, so why make a movie about them? But then who am I to question the mighty minds of Marvel Studios?
Movie Rating: 7/10 – Good
Eternals is infamous now as being the only movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I don’t put any stock into that website, so it means nothing to me. I was always going to see Eternals in the theater as soon as possible and I did. And enjoyed the movie. I saw no real, major problems with the film, definitely not to the degree of the drubbing its getting. But this is a weird world we live in. And Spider-Man: No Way Home is only a month away.

The Hawkeye TV show is about a month away or so, and while we don’t have a second trailer, we have a new TV spot with a bit more footage. I’ll take anything at this point, because I am very excited for the Hawkeye TV show. It could and should be a lot of fun!
This bit also reveals that we’ll get the first two episodes premiering on the same day, so that’s even more awesome! I am really hyped for this show and am hoping hoping hoping for the best. Kate Bishop should be great, Clint Barton is already great and obviously we all want to see more of Rogers: The Musical. May it all live up to our loftiest dreams!
Hawkeye arrives on Disney+ on Nov. 24.

6 Thoughts on the First Season of What If…?
The Marvel TV machine is still pumping on all cylinders as we wrap up the first season of What If…? and prepare for Hawkeye next month. I’ve always been a big fan of the What If…? comic book series and its core premise, and I thought turning that into an anthology cartoon series with a focus on the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a great idea! I love how varied these Marvel Studios TV shows have been, and What If…? was a fine choice.
TV Show Rating: 7/10 – Good.
I liked What If…? just fine. It was an enjoyable show with some fun ideas. The original comic was before my time, but I read a couple issues here and there and enjoyed the concept overall. I think the TV show did a great job adapting the concept to the MCU, and it was a hoot that they were able to use so much of the actual movie cast. I don’t necessarily think that was to the show’s benefit every time…but What If…? was a fun cartoon nonetheless.
