Prepare for M.O.D.O.K. TV!

Against all odds, the MODOK cartoon show is coming to Hulu very soon! Patton Oswalt’s take on the big-headed villain is the only show to survive that weird lineup of announced Marvel cartoons from a couple years ago. Could any of them have been good? Who knows! But MODOK does look legitimately funny.

I’m a big Patton Oswalt fan, as I assume most people are. And yeah, this looks good. Some funny jokes. Some cool guest appearances. A solid concept. I’ve seen a clip or two here or there and it looks great! Here’s hoping its even a fraction as hilarious as the Harley Quinn cartoon.

MODOK arrives on Hulu on Ma 21!

6 Things I Want to See in the Shang-Chi Movie

The first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived earlier this week and it looked awesome! It’s the next new Marvel movie after Black Widow, scheduled to come out on Sept. 3 — only a few days before my birthday! So all signs point to the Shang-Chi film looking great! There’s no reason to doubt that Marvel isn’t going to knock another one out of the park.

But here’s the thing: I know very little about Shang-Chi and have little interest in his comic history.

Despite being a lifelong comic book fan, I simply have no history with Shang-Chi. By the time I started reading comics in the 1990s, the Kung Fu fascination was long gone and Shang-Chi was nobody. I think he’s a great choice for Marvel’s first leading Asian character. And the trailer looks like Marvel went all-in on the classic Hong Kong martial arts cinema. That sounds great! But not being a fan of Shang-Chi in the comics, I’m not even sure what I want to see in the new film…but I’m going to give it a shot anyway!

Join me after the jump for six things I want to see in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The First Shang-Chi Trailer Comes Outta Nowhere!

I don’t think anybody was expecting this today, of all days! But Marvel has released the first trailer, first official look, at Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings! And it looks great!

I love everything I see in this trailer! The action looks superb, really leaning heavily into classic Asian martial arts films. The guy who plays the Mandarin is supposedly a big name in Hong Kong cinema, so that’s cool. And I like Awkwafina a whole bunch, so yay there! I don’t know anything about the main actor, Simon Liu, but the internet is telling me that today is his birthday and Marvel surprised him with this trailer! That’s neat.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings looks great! It comes out on Sept. 3, only a few days before my birthday!

Godzilla vs. Kong Was Good Stuff, Honestly

The good thing about having movies released straight to streaming is that Screen Junkies can just whip out these Honest Trailers right away. They don’t have to wait for digital and DVD releases! Is that a good thing? I don’t know anymore.

Anyway, here’s Godzilla vs. Kong! With complete spoilers.

Good times. I enjoyed Godzilla vs. Kong and would be very happy to see more. As I’ve mentioned in the past, there’s plenty of places to take this franchise.

This also means we’ll get an Honest Trailer for Mortal Kombat within a week!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/17/21

We’ve got a hefty week of comics this week! I read a whole ton of books and enjoyed them all, for the most part. Some better than others, as is usually the case. Children of the Atom continues to be OK, Mighty Morphin is great as always, and Far Sector comes one step closer to the end!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Pack #5 for a delightful wrap-up to their short mini-series. Ryan North and Nico Leon had a lot of fun with this one, and that always makes me happy.

Breaking bad

Meanwhile, I decided to kick off my owning a Nintendo Switch with some Super Mario Odyssey! Such a fun game. I think this is the first time in my life I have ever owned a Nintendo console and the corresponding Mario game. I was always a Game Boy man for the longest time. Feels good to Mario.

Comic Reviews: Children of the Atom #2, Far Sector #11, Iron Man #8, Mighty Morphin #6, Power Pack #5, Thor #14 and Wonder Woman #771.
