Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/5/22

Good news and bad news, everybody! The good news is I’ll be going to see The Batman today and I’m expecting to have a good time! The bad news there might not be reviews next week, as I will be out of state attending my sister’s wedding! That’s good news for her! But we’ll see if I have any time before I leave to read and review some comics.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Static: Season One #6 for an awesome, heroic finale to this first storyline. Not sure why this comic needs seasons, but this season finale was cool as heck.

One opportunity…to seize everything you wanted…

Meanwhile, I beat Pokemon Legends: Arceus and now I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to splurge on Horizon Forbidden West yet, at least not until after I get back from my sister’s wedding next weekend. So maybe I’ll take up reading for the next week? We’ll see.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #91, Batman #121, One-Star Squadron #4, She-Hulk #2, Static: Season One #6 and X-Men #9.

The Boys Presents: Diabolical Is Available Now!

The third season of The Boys is still a couple of months away, so the showrunners and Amazon decided to fill that time with a crazy, violent, anthology cartoon series called The Boys Presents: Diabolical. Here’s the trailer.

I think I heard in an interview that this is supposed to be like the Animatrix. It’s a bunch of shorts that further flesh out the world of The Boys, and all the violent and crude superhero stuff that happens. I haven’t seen it yet, because I’m posting this in the morning and need to get to work. But it’s definitely on my slate for this weekend!

Bullet Train is Looking Pretty Awesome

I don’t know if I was aware of this movie or not, but the trailer for Bullet Train dropped yesterday and it looks phenomenal. Brad Pitt and a very stacked cast apparently are going to have Deadpool-style fun in a confined train space. Check it out and get excited!

I’m not just about superhero movies. Yes, I’m excited for The Batman this weekend. But this Bullet Train trailer is the epitome of excitement! It’s got laughs, it’s got action, it’s got wackiness, it’s got some great actors and a wonderful sense of style. This might be a new Knives Out-degree surprise hit and I am totally down for that!

Bullet Train arrives in theaters on July 15.

My 6 Favorite Batman Costumes

It’s new Batman movie week! The Batman debuts on Thursday, though a doctor’s appointment means I won’t be able to check it out until probably Saturday. But that’s a me problem, not a you problem. You get to see the movie whenever you want and read my Batman Week List of Six about favorite Bat-costumes!

Here’s lookin’ at you, kid

I did a similar List of Six a couple years ago for Spider-Man, when one of those new Spider-Man movies came out. So why not dig deep into the world of alternate Batman costumes and see what I like and don’t like? There aren’t as many alternate versions of Batman costumes as there are Spider-Man costumes. Batman tends to get very subtle changes to his outfit while maintaining the same look. Or sometimes he dresses like a zebra. Still, I’ve got some favorites out of those subtle changes, and some favorites out of really cool alternate looks.

Join me after the jump for my favorite Batman costumes over the years, and feel free to share some of your own in the comments!

Movie Trailer Tuesday Presents Morbius and Secrets of Dumbledore

We’ve got a big Batman movie coming out this weekend, so big studios are putting out big trailers for their next big movies. That’s how this system works. The problem is that I don’t particularly care about Morbius or Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

I have as much interest in the upcoming Morbius movie as I do in the character of Morbius himself, which is very little. I think this movie is going to flop hard.

I just don’t find anything about this movie appealing. I don’t like Jared Leto in the lead role. I don’t like the CGI vampire facepaint. I don’t like the weak attempt to cast him as an anti-hero. I don’t like all the cringy references to Venom. I don’t like shoehorning Adrian Toomes into this movie to try and leech off the MCU. None of it looks good!

Then we’ve got The Secrets of Dumbledore, a seemingly sad and pathetic attempt to keep this franchise alive.

Don’t get me wrong, Harry Potter is still a strong franchise. I’m probably gonna play that Harry Potter video game when it comes out, but mostly because I love create-a-character open world games. But surely the franchise has taken a lot of hits lately, what with J.K. Rowling coming out as a huge bigot and the last Fantastic Beasts movie just being pretty bad.

But they’re trying again, so I guess more power to them?

Both Morbius and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore come out in April.
