Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/12/24
This is a big week for comics! It’s the launch of DC’s new Absolute Universe line of books! Do they live up to the hype? You’ll have to read on and see!
Comic Book of the Week is Absolute Batman #1, because yeah, it totally lives up to the hype, for the most part.
Meanwhile, a bunch of good comics came out this week, but a lot of them were mid storyline or I haven’t been reviewing them regularly, so I didn’t add them to this already sparse list. Ah well. Beyond that, I’m still very much enjoying The Penguin and Agatha All Along, and have finally started watching the second season of The Rings of Power. So I’d say I’m in a good place. May finally try to beat Star Wars: Outlaws this weekend.

Rumors have been swirling for weeks now, and yesterday we got final confirmation that Kyle Chandler will play Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart in the upcoming HBO show Lanterns. Solid casting!
I have very high hopes for this TV show. The Penguin has been awesome so far, largely because it’s a gritty crime drama that just happens to be about the Penguin. So I’m hoping we get a gritty cop drama that just happens to be about the Green Lantern Corps. Granted, it’ll hopefully be more colorful and cosmic than a gritty crime drama, but I have faith that they will make it work. And this is a good cast to make it happen!
And don’t forget Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner in the Superman movie!
We’ve got a good Corps on our hands. Here’s hoping we get even more characters, and even more of the rainbow corps!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/5/24
Last time I only reviewed X-Men comics, so this time i’m only reviewing DC Comics. It’s a big month for DC, as they kick off their new All In initiative. And I’m getting on the ground floor with the new one-shot special!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #153 for a truly excellent start to the new storyline, starting with a pretty nice clean slate.
Meanwhile, I’m loving The Penguin, enjoying Agatha All Along and have stalled a bit playing Star Wars Outlaws. I’m at just about the end game, but got distracted with some other games on the side that do stealth much better. Heh. Perhaps I’ll finish the game off for good this weekend, but then I won’t have another game to play until next year! I’ll need to find something on sale somewhere…
Comic Reviews: Batman #153, DC All In Special #1 and Plastic Man No More: Book Two.

Out of nowhere yesterday, James Gunn, the current grand poobah of DC Studios, announced that they’re going to make a film about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as Robins. Longtime readers of this blog know that I really like Robin — perhaps too much — and I’m super excited to be getting some type of serious Robin project. It’s gonna be called Dynamic Duo.
All we know about the movie so far is that it’s going to be the first feature film by Swaybox, a company that does a combination of puppetry and CGI for their animation. You can check out their website to see what their style is like. Personally, I think it’s perfect for this type of project.
I’ve always felt that Robin’s story is much better than people give it credit for. Can’t say as how I think it would be a good idea to do Dick and Jason in the same movie for some reason…instead of just Dick and Batman. But I’m going to have to trust James Gunn and Matt Reeves on this one. And I totally do!
Now we just need Robin to show up in the Reevesverse…

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/7/24
Let me tell you, folks, you’ve never met a lazier blogger than I. I’ve been off from work this whole week for my birthday, so I had all week to read comics and do reviews and post stuff. But ultimately, I’m late with this post and have only reviewed two comics this week…but they’re two new ones and good ones.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Plastic Man No More: Book One for its creative art style and solid introductory story.
Meanwhile, my week off has mostly been spent in glorious isolation. I’m trying to save up money to buy a new car, so I wasn’t about to go on any grand trips. I splurged on Star Wars: Outlaws for my birthday and it’s been fun! I’m enjoying myself with Outlaws, though it could be a lot more polished in my opinion. Other than that, I’m reading some graphic novels I had saved up and taking frequent naps. Watched Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire finally and did not care for it.
Comic Reviews: Exceptional X-Men #1 and Plastic Man No More: Book One.
