X-Factor Will Be Written by Mark Russell (No Sign of Multiple Man)

Well hot damn, people! The creative team and character roster of the new X-Factor comic book has been announced, and while I’m disappointed that Multiple Man isn’t in the comic, my disappointment is healed by the fact that writer Mark Russell, one of my all-time favorite comic book writers. I am freakin’ thrilled!

The full details of the comic are on AIPT Comics.

Formed by the government in response to a post-Krakoa outbreak of mutant paramilitary, ops squads, and mercenary teams, X-FACTOR will be co-led by Angel and Havok and include recruits like Pyro, Frenzy, Feral, and more. Part special agents for missions that require an arsenal of superpowers and part celebrity propaganda machine, X-FACTOR will wage war against emerging factions like the Mutant Underground and X-Term. Whether they believe in their actions or are just doing it for a check, the members of X-Factor are no fools when it comes to shady politics. As hidden agendas rear their ugly head, they’ll fight against the dark consequences and disastrous public opinion from the inside!

FAME, FORTUNE, MUTANTS! From the ashes of Krakoa, a new mutant arms race sweeps the globe! International governments are building their own mutant armies. But only America’s X-Factor has the most powerful, most patriotic, most marketable mutant heroes to stem the tide and make the world safe for democracy! Join them as they go from one death-defying mission to another. Who will die? Who will fall in love? Who will be the first to sell out? Like, comment and subscribe to find out!

The roster will include Angel, Havok, Feral, Frenzy and Pyro. I’m not all that thrilled about any of those characters, but that’s fine. Russell will work his magic.

If you’ve never read Mark Russell, his Wonder Twins and Flintstones comics are some of the best comics I’ve read this century. He’s phenomenal! And Bob Quinn on art should be fantastic as well!

And check out this quote from Russell:

“The thing I’ve always loved about the X-Men is that they’re characters first, super heroes second,” Russell shared. “So being able to write characters like Havok and Angel and Frenzy in a post-Krakoa reality is an opportunity to write about what I really care about, which is how do we help each other survive the apathy of the world we live in?”

I have been saying that for years! Characters first, superheroes second! Oh man, this comic is gonna be awesome! Though it won’t come out until August.

There was a super surprise Strong Guy appearance this week and I need to tell somebody! I’ve been following random Strong Guy appearances for years now, just because it’s fun. He’s a great character and doesn’t appear very often. And now he’s had one of his greatest appearances of all time.

Some awesome fan artwork

6 Characters I Want to See in Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine is coming to theaters later this year, the only Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to come out in 2024. I’m very excited. The world is very excited. This movie promises to be the multiverse caper to end all multiverse capers! So I have some ideas I’d like to see.

We’re all gonna love this movie

We recently learned that actor Vinnie Jones turned down the offer to return as the Juggernaut from X-Men: The Last Stand. We already know there are some crazy cameos planned for this film, though I don’t want to spoil what I’ve heard in case you haven’t heard them too. But it got me thinking of cameos I’d like to see. I saw all of those X-Men movies and probably most other Marvel-adjacent films they might draw cameos from. So I’ve got together a list of all the cameos I’d like to see in Deadpool & Wolverine!

Join me after the jump for some hopeful surprises, and feel free to share your own cameo hopes and dreams in the comments below!

Cartoon Trailer Monday!

Last week was a great week for cartoon trailers. And if I was more on my game, I should have posted about these last week. That’s on me. I’m sure everybody’s already seen these trailers, but you haven’t heard my thoughts on them yet!

First up is the big one, X-Men ’97. Everybody’s been talking about this all weekend, and of course I’m excited for this show. I lived off of the original X-Men animated series, so I am here for this!

Looks wonky but manageable. Not sure bringing back the same voice cast was the best idea. Not sure whatever they’re doing with the animation was the best idea. But their heart seems to be in the right place. Seems like they’ve got some solid stories lined up, and that Daily Bugle flapping in the breeze at the start of the trailer showed Maggott and Stacy X, and if those two characters appear for real in this show, then I’m going to automatically consider it a success.

Also, I am 110% behind everything they’re doing with Morph. Making them nonbinary is a great idea. And I love their new blank face/AoA Morph look. The Morph serialized story from the original show was always really impressive to me, and I’m excited to see them as a solid member of the team now.

X-Men ’97 comes to Disney+ on March 20.

Next up is the trailer for the second half of season two of Invincible. Loved everything so far, love the comic series, so bring it on!

Looks great! I recognize some of the storylines and characters from the comics, and then there’s stuff I’ve forgotten about. I’m confident that the people behind Invincible know exactly what they’re doing and they’re going to pull it off splendidly. So everybody just keep up the good work and get it done!

Invincible returns to Amazon Prime on March 14.

Lastly, our first look at Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I loved Mutant Mayhem as much as the next person, so I’m on board with those show.

Looks fun. Looks a little cheaply animated, but I can live with that. I don’t actually know if I’ll watch this show. I haven’t watched an ongoing Ninja Turtles cartoon in a very long time. They’re mostly for kids for real. And that’s how it should be! Let kids enjoy the Ninja Turtles. But if it’s as good as the movie, I might try this out.

Tales of the TMNT comes to Paramount+ this summer.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/9/23

Only a few more weeks until Christmas! That doesn’t particularly mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it definitely works to open up this comic review article. We’ve also got new issues of the likes of Batman and Transformers to enjoy.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Birds of Prey #4 for an action and character-focused issue that really kicks things up a notch.

Meanwhile, I’m almost done with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but mostly that game was all about building my own lightsaber. I think I should share my endgame creation! I’m also finally working my way through the fourth season of Harley Quinn. It’s not as strong a show as it was at the beginning, but it’s still enjoyable.

Comic Reviews: Batman #140, Birds of Prey #4, Fantastic Four #14, Thunderbolts #1, Transformers #3 and X-Men #29.
