Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/1/18
Both Aquaman and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse are getting great word-of-mouth ahead of their upcoming releases. That is both crazy and awesome! I’m really excited for these movies now!
But we’re not here to talk movies! That’s just my way of opening up this article with some general superhero chatter. We’re here to talk comics, and this week is a doozy! We’ve got Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Wonder Woman, Booster Gold and more! Comic Book of the Week goes to Fantastic Four #4, for an issue that I hope is a solid example of what we’re going to see going forward.
Meanwhile, I got a request to review the finale to the Drowned Earth storyline in Justice League. I dropped the main comic awhile ago, so I had a lot of catching up to do. I liked the first couple of issues, but big team-focused comics aren’t my cup of tea these days, so I faded from the series. But I take my review requests seriously, so you best believe I have reviewed the Drowned Earth finale below!
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1005, Amazing Spider-Man #10, Aquaman/Justice League – Drowned Earth #1, Fantastic Four #4, Heroes in Crisis #3, Uncanny X-Men #3 and Wonder Woman #59.
I Love the Idea of Kristen Wiig as the Cheetah
This is some pretty old news, but I’m going to post it anyway. Kristen Wiig has been cast as the villainous Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2. I think that’s a fantastic casting choice!

I really like Kristen Wiig, even though I never watched any of her seasons of Saturday Night Live. There’s just something understated about her comedy and her acting chops, like she’s obviously funny, but there’s an undercurrent of melancholy. And I think that will go great with the Cheetah! I don’t know much about the villain, but Greg Rucka’s recent Wonder Woman comic focused heavily on the character and Wiig definitely fits! Barbara Ann Minerva was an academic first, mystical super-villain second, and I think that’s a good fit for Wiig.

Justice League Taken Down, Honestly
Now that we’re several months removed from the Justice League movie, I think we can all agree that it was pretty forgettable. I was OK with the film when it came out, and I’m sure I would survive a rewatch. The most important thing is that it’s over and we can giggle about the continuing failures of the DC Cinematic Universe.
This is also a good time to remind everybody that there’s an Aquaman movie coming out at the end of the year! How fancy is that?

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/20/18
Comics! We’ve got comics! So many comics! There are a bunch of cancelled titles out there, but I’ve still got plenty to read. In fact, this week features some of my favorites, like Power Rangers and Mighty Thor! We also get the new Harley Quinn creative team!
Unsurprisingly, Comic Book of the Week goes to Tom King’s Batman. That guy is killing it on this title! And artist Joelle Jones is back to draw Wonder Woman, so everything is pretty much perfect.
Meanwhile, in other comic book news, Marvel announced the upcoming wedding of Colossus and Kitty Pryde. I have zero interest in this union. My introduction to the X-Men came through the 90s cartoon show, where both characters were absent. So I’ve never had any investment in their relationship, unless you count Joss Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men, but I don’t remember that series for Kitty and Colossus.
But hey, if that’s what Marvel wants to do, more power to them, I suppose. I’m sure some fans are happy.
Comic Reviews: Batman #39, Harley Quinn #35, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #23 and Mighty Thor #703.
