Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/4/23

Sometimes you get a week of great comics. Sometimes you get a week of mediocre comics. Sometimes you just try to drag yourself through day after day to get to the weekend, which you also waste. This was one of those weeks.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #10 because it was another strong, enjoyable issue of this ongoing series. Somebody remind me to read the Sam Wilson series too, so I can get caught up ahead of the crossover.

He’s coming for you!

Meanwhile, not much else going on in life. I bought that new Multiple Man Marvel Legends action figure. I made such a stink about there not being Madrox action figures that I am honor bound to buy them when they do come out. But I’m starting to get the sense that I’ve lost all joy for buying action figures nowadays. Joy is in limited supply…ugh. It was just that kind of week. Oh! This week did see the return of The Mandalorian, which is nice.

We’re back with another solid week of new comics, as we are every week. Was this the best week of new comics ever? No, sadly not. Was it the worst week? Nah. Just a pretty average week. Though this week did see the return of Saga!

Comic Book of the Week goes to X-Terminators #5 for a very enjoyable wrap-up to this excellent series! This is the sort of X-Men ongoing I could get behind.

It’s Jubilee’s time to shine

Meanwhile, I’m probably going to skip Sins of Sinister. I’m just not into crossovers these days anymore. More my loss. I also finally beat Pokemon Violet! I really liked the open world aspect of the new game, but the whole thing wasn’t very fulfilling. Perhaps they’ll do better with the next one. Also, I started watching Lockwood & Co. like I mentioned yesterday, and I’m enjoying it so far!

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1051, Justice Society of America #2, Saga #61 and X-Terminators #5.

Happy New Year, everyone! It’s the last day of 2022 and I’m sure we’re all ready to bid this year farewell and start anew with plans, hopes, dreams and more. And to finish off this year, I’ve got a whole pile of comic reviews, from the end of several comics, like Thunderbolts, to the start of something new with Action Comics!

In fact, Comic Book of the Week goes to Action Comics #1050 because it succeeds in being a nice, new start to a new Superman era. Once again, I will find myself attempting to get into an era of Superman.

You should be

Meanwhile, my Christmas gift to myself this year is a Playstation 5, so that’s pretty exciting. It was supposed to arrive today, so if you’re reading this review column the day it was posted, know that I’ll be gradually hitting refresh on the tracking page all day long until it shows up and I rush down and snatch it up! Wish me luck! I’ve got a good year of gaming ahead of me.

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1050, She-Hulk #9, Strange Academy: Finals #3, Thunderbolts #5, and X-Terminators #4.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/25/19

Man, there are a ton of really great, meaningful comics this week. Nothing that really got me on the edge of my seat, more like just a bunch of deeply foundational, character-driven comics that really play up with the deep benches these comics have developed. I love that!

Comic Book of the Week was hard to decide, because both Unstoppable Wasp and Tony Stark – Iron Man had such strong issues. But I’m going to give it to the new issue of Runaways, for a wonderful, character-driven issue with a lot of good drama and humor!

Meanwhile, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is coming to an end! What a damn shame! Ryan North is ending the comic on his terms because it’s what he wants to do, this isn’t a cancellation. But still. Man. What a total bummer. That comic is brilliant! I’m gonna have to save up and buy all the tpbs just to double own the comic!

Double meanwhile, Tom King is getting kicked off Batman before he can finish his epic story. I’m sorry to hear that! King’s Batman has been my favorite Batman comic in a long time. I think it’s great! I’m always surprised to read online that people don’t like it.

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1011, Mr & Mrs X #11, Runaways #21, Tony Stark – Iron Man #11 and Unstoppable Wasp #8.

Avengers: Endgame was great! I’m not even going to beat around the bush. It was great, it was fantastic, it was everything I could have wanted. It’s the real deal, a true grand finale. Go watch it!

Comics this week almost pale in comparison. Action Comics and Runaways are pretty fun, while Fantastic Four and Heroes in Crisis disappoint. And Comic Book of the Week goes to Mr & Mrs X!

Meanwhile, X-Tremists is still the only comic I’m reading from Age of X-Man and it remains pretty darn good. At least when it comes to character development for the Blob, and now Psylocke, too! Honestly, I will consider Age of X-Man a win as a whole if this leads to a Blob renaissance.

Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1010, Fantastic Four #9, Heroes in Crisis #8, Mr. & Mrs. X #10 and Runaways #20.
