A Longer, Dumber Look At That Avengers Video Game

A full blown Avengers video game is due out sometime next year, featuring a movie-similar cast and a bunch of production values. As an Avengers and video game fan, I’m pretty excited. But this longer look at the opening section has me hesitantly cautious.

My major concern is that the game looks way too on-rails. I like a good free roam game. This whole opening segment looks like one long quick time event, where the game controls where you go and how you get there, you just need to press the corresponding button to make that happen.

Of course, that might just be how the opening prologue works, like a tutorial. Either way, I’m still excited, but now more cautious.

There’s also a Ms. Marvel tease about halfway through, so she’s definitely going to be in the game. Pretty sure she’s the narrator.

6 Spooky Marvel Characters for the “Adventure Into Fear” Shows

We’ve known for some time that Ghost Rider and Daimon Hellstrom would be getting Marvel TV shows. But last week, Marvel TV announced that they were only the start of an “Adventure Into Fear” brand of spooky Marvel shows. They want to tap into the “terror” of superheroes on Hulu. Sounds good to me!

Ready for his closeup!

Ghost Rider was great on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though this is apparently going to be a new incarnation (while keeping the same actor). And Daimon Hellstrom is always cool as the Son of Satan. But who else will get shows? Blade and Morbius are getting movies. Man-Thing…had a movie. Does Marvel have a deep horror bench beyond this crew? Of course they do! Allow this comic book geek to list off a couple solid choices for fear and terror-themed television shows!

Join me after the jump for my suggestions! And feel free to share your own in the comments! What spooky Marvel characters do you want to see on the small screen?

Sony Pulls the Plug On Their Spider-Man Deal With Marvel

The report has just come in from Deadline: Sony has struck down Marvel’s request for more equal profits on the Spider-Man films, so the deal to share the Wall-Crawler is at and end. Damn it all to hell.

Spidey Deal Over 01

It was good while it lasted

Deadline obviously has all the finer details and understands them better than me. Basically, I think Marvel wanted a 50/50 split on costs or profits, but Sony would agree to nothing of the sort. The deal has been that Sony would get all the movie profits from Spider-Man films, while Marvel worked their magic to make them awesome, and was allowed to have Spidey show up in Avengers films. And obviously that has worked out splendidly, considering Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man Far From Home were both great, and Spidey’s appearances in other Marvel movies were also a blast!

But good things don’t last forever and greed is the most powerful thing of all. Sony clearly thinks they’ll do fine on their own, with all of their hopes resting on a dumb Morbius movie.

Venom was only successful because people like Venom! Not because you made a good movie! Granted, Sony also made Into the Spider-Verse without Marvel’s input…

Ugh. This is just bad, annoying news. Why can’t we have nice things? Far From Home earned more than a billion dollars and it was because of Marvel. Argh. There’s no point in my blathering. We all know how terrible and dumb this is, but then we’re not stupid Hollywood executives.

Meet the New Characters in Gamer Girl & Vixen!

Good news, everybody! Gamer Girl & Vixen Volume 2 has started production! New series artist Andrea Rosales has been given the greenlight to get started on a 9-page preview for the next volume, which I can’t wait to share with you all in the weeks to come! I am very excited to be making comics again and I need to be better about using my blog to brag about my work.

GG & Vixen Bust commission

For those of you who don’t know, Gamer Girl & Vixen is my self-published comic that I write with my friend Kristi McDowell. We started a few years ago and managed to produce our own graphic novel, which is still available to order from our online store.

Gamer Girl & Vixen is the story of two super-villains who meet cute on the rooftops of New York and use their powers to rob celebrities!

It’s also much more than that! It’s an LGBTQ+ love story about two cat burglars who hook up to commit crimes and get busy! It’s got character drama, romance, thievery and costumed fisticuffs!

Volume 2 is going to continue the story as our main characters get into even more trouble. Now that they’re the hot new super-villains on the scene, they attract the attention of some bigger, more established baddies. I can’t wait to introduce the world to our new villain: Tyrannosaurus Regina!

Regina Andrea Final 01

I am beyond thrilled at how Regina has turned out as a character. She sees herself as the Beyonce of Crime, a rising star dedicated to her work. And she sees in Gamer Girl & Vixen the chance to boost her popularity and add some new talent to her crew.

Her crew is Jurassix! They’re a notorious crime band, pulling off major heists and then rocking out on stage at some underground super-villain clubs. Regina is lead vocalist, with the Hammer Sisters on guitar and bass, and Monkeyshines on drums.

Jurassix Squad 01

And those are the major new characters for Volume 2! There will be at least one more major new character in the comic, but we don’t have him fully designed just yet. And there are plenty more characters to come in the Gamer Girl & Vixen universe!

I’m going to try and do a better job of keeping you henchies up to date on new developments in my comic. You’re always my strongest supporters and I hope you enjoy reading my comic as much as you enjoy reading my blog, assuming you enjoy reading my blog.

I’m just full of such assumptions!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/17/19

Pretty solid week for comics this week, everybody! Some of my favorites, like Go Go Power Rangers and Fantastic Four drop, with Powers of X rolling right along. The new issue this week is Gwenpool Strikes Back, which I have high hopes for — though it might not compare with the original series.

At any rate, Comic Book of the Week goes to Unbeatable Squirrel Girl as it kicks off its final storyline with real style and real stakes! Ryan North apparently isn’t going to mess around this time. Shit just got real!

Doreen Difficult Day 01

Say it ain’t so, Squirrel Girl!

Meanwhile, I was thinking of reviewing the Scream tie-in to Absolute Carnage, but it wasn’t much of an issue, so I’ll just sum it up here: It was fine. It was a little confusing, but it was fine. Far more exciting was the third issue of Event Leviathan from DC Comics! Bendis is killing it with this event, which features some phenomenal character work. I haven’t enjoyed the Red Hood this much in years, and the cliffhanger ending is a spine-tinglingly cool Superman moment!

Comic Reviews: Fantastic Four #13, Go Go Power Rangers #22, Gwenpool Strikes Back #1, Powers of X #2 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #47.
