New Shang-Chi and Suicide Squad Trailers!
This was a great week for movie trailers! Two of the biggest upcoming superhero movies decided to just thrill us with some brand new trailers this week. Seriously, out of nowhere, Marvel dropped a new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just last night! Where did this beauty come from?
I won’t spoil everything we just saw in that trailer, but holy cow! I don’t think anybody saw that cameo coming! That should be an exciting moment! And we got some stronger, fuller looks at the Ten Rings themselves, and Shang-Chi. All of that looks great to me!
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings comes to theaters on Sept. 3, just in time for my birthday!
Next up is a new trailer for The Suicide Squad by James Gunn. I thought we had plenty of trailers for this film, but this new one is great, too!
Interesting new details for Idris Elba’s Bloodsport…though it does seem he really is just a rebooted Deadshot. We’ll see when the movie comes out. Should still be fun. And King Shark might just be the standout character of this movie. Can’t wait for this one either!
The Suicide Squad comes out on Aug. 6!

I’m Disappointed We Didn’t Get to See Stacy X’s Crucible
Stacy X has finally returned to X-Men comics! She’s a favorite character of mine because she debuted just as I was finally starting to read and collect X-Men comics on an ongoing basis. But for a variety of reasons, she was dropped from the team after a short while. I’ve kept up with her in whatever weird little appearances she’s made over the past 20 years, and I’m very pleased to say that she’s on Krakoa and she’s got her powers back!
Stacy X showed up in this week’s Way of X #3. I hope she becomes a reoccurring character!

While it’s great to have her back, I’m a little disappointed that we did not get to see her Crucible. I was very much looking forward to that. And it would have been a pretty big moment for her character, considering her loss of powers has been her defining character trait over the past 20ish years.
Allow me to explain, because I love talking about favorite obscure mutants of mine!
So Stacy X is a mutant with both snakeskin and the power to control the pheromones and other chemicals in a person’s body. The X-Men met her while she was working at a mutant brothel, where she used her powers to give customers some truly mind-melting sexual experiences. This backstory and general attitude did not sit well with some of the X-Men (and perhaps Marvel?) and she was dropped shortly thereafter.
Then Stacy was one of the more high profile mutants to lose their powers on M-Day. She was an X-Man, after all, and most of the team kept their powers. In their M-Day aftermath comic, Generation M, Marvel really twisted the knife by turning Stacy into a real hooker living and working the streets.
Stacy did eventually clean up her act and joined a random incarnation of the New Warriors a few years later. This version of the New Warriors was made up of ex-mutants using technology to become superheroes again. Stacy was known as Ripcord and she ended up getting killed. Such a thing happens a lot to New Mutants.
Stacy made a random and minor appearance in the comic Vengeance, which I think was supposed to be some kind of statement comic by Marvel? It didn’t go anywhere. Her rebirth was never explained.
Then she showed up in an issue of the recent Domino comic, attending a Mutants Anonymous meeting put together by Domino and Nightcrawler for mutants struggling to live with powers that make them look abnormal.
So as you can see, after a brief membership in the X-Men, Stacy X has been defined by the loss of her powers for nearly the past 20 years. It was a bigger deal for her character than pretty much anyone else in the X-Men franchise (if we don’t count Jubilee’s weird couple of years as a vampire).
When Marvel introduced the idea of the Crucible on Krakoa — depowered mutants fighting in an arena in order to earn their death/resurrection/repowering — I had hoped to see Stacy X go through it. I think it would have been a great way to cap off her major story arc.
But alas, it apparently happened off-panel. I’m just going to have to be happy with the fact that Stacy X is back, she’s got her powers and she’s doing good on Krakoa. I should be able to make my peace with that.

6 Other G.I. Joes Who Need Origins Movies
Beyond all common sense, we’re getting a solo Snake Eyes movie as part of some larger G.I. Joe Origins branding. Don’t get me wrong, I love Snake Eyes as much as the next 80s kid. But after two relatively failed big screen G.I. Joe movies, it feels weird to randomly get this Snake Eyes film out of nowhere.
What about the rest of the Joes?
For all I know, this Snake Eyes movie might be a huge hit. Maybe everybody loves the ninja action and the cool black costume and this kicks off a whole new G.I. Joe franchise. The movie does feature the likes of Scarlett and the Baroness. Maybe Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins will be the start of an entirely new cinematic universe. And we’ll get a bunch of Origins movies before building to a united, rebooted G.I. Joe! Stranger things have happened.
So what the heck! Let’s have some fun reminiscing about the 80s! Join me after the jump for six other G.I. Joe characters who could use Origins movies.

Shazam! 2: Fury of the Gods is currently filming, and director David F. Sanberg has decided he’s not going to let set leaks ruin all the big, cool reveals of the new movie. Specifically, the redesigned costumes of the Shazam family! Behold the crew!
Everyone looks good! The family was one of the best parts of the first film, so I’m glad to see they’re all coming back. And the costumes look dope. Here’s hoping the sequel is pretty fun!
Shame it won’t come out until June 2023. That’s two whole years away!

The Snake Eyes Movie is a Gamble
Man, I just don’t know what to make of the upcoming Snake Eyes movie. I’ll grant you that I haven’t been connected to G.I. Joe canon since the 1980s, so how really knows what makes that franchise tick in the 21st century. But is this it? Is this really it?
It’s a clear ninja warrior movie…but peppered with various characters and references to the wider G.I. Joe universe. But does those connections work? The trailer namedrops “COBRA” but never mentions G.I. Joe. And then Snake Eyes’ pretty face is all over the place, and even though he talks, he still has very little to say.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is going to be a weird, weird ride when it hits theaters on July 23.
