It being a random Monday, Marvel has released a sizzle reel trailer to show off their awesomeness and reveal some upcoming dates for new movies. Obviously this is a ploy to get us all to go back to movie theaters…and it works like a charm!
This sizzle reel also features the first footage from The Eternals, which comes out this November. We’ve also got the first logos for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels, the sequels to Black Panther and Captain Marvel respectively.
So yeah, big freakin’ deal, I’d say! Trailer looks great! Marvel has never skimped on those. I’m excited for all the upcoming movies, and I’m already back in the theaters, so you best believe I’ll be seeing all of these upcoming movies on the big screen.
It’s gonna be a busy couple of months. We’ve got Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Eternals and Spider-Man: Far From Home all coming out in the back half of this year. Of 2021!
And next year, we’ve got Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels!
Then, so far, we’ve got Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for 2023.
Should be a good couple of years!
The first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived earlier this week and it looked awesome! It’s the next new Marvel movie after Black Widow, scheduled to come out on Sept. 3 — only a few days before my birthday! So all signs point to the Shang-Chi film looking great! There’s no reason to doubt that Marvel isn’t going to knock another one out of the park.
But here’s the thing: I know very little about Shang-Chi and have little interest in his comic history.
Despite being a lifelong comic book fan, I simply have no history with Shang-Chi. By the time I started reading comics in the 1990s, the Kung Fu fascination was long gone and Shang-Chi was nobody. I think he’s a great choice for Marvel’s first leading Asian character. And the trailer looks like Marvel went all-in on the classic Hong Kong martial arts cinema. That sounds great! But not being a fan of Shang-Chi in the comics, I’m not even sure what I want to see in the new film…but I’m going to give it a shot anyway!

I don’t think anybody was expecting this today, of all days! But Marvel has released the first trailer, first official look, at Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings! And it looks great!
I love everything I see in this trailer! The action looks superb, really leaning heavily into classic Asian martial arts films. The guy who plays the Mandarin is supposedly a big name in Hong Kong cinema, so that’s cool. And I like Awkwafina a whole bunch, so yay there! I don’t know anything about the main actor, Simon Liu, but the internet is telling me that today is his birthday and Marvel surprised him with this trailer! That’s neat.

Happy Halloween! What a nice coincidence that the holiday falls on the day I’m reviewing comics. Of course, I’m not reviewing any spooky comics, so the point is moot. But X of Swords keeps getting worse, so that’s something.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Runaways #32 because it’s so nice to have this comic back! And it’s a pretty cute issue.
Meanwhile, I read through The Last Ronin, the futuristic Ninja Turtles story, and it was fun. I’ve been collecting the large, hardcover volumes of the IDWI TMNT series but I haven’t started reading them yet. I think I just like collecting them. So I’m not fully up on my Turtles comic lore. But this first issue is cool…though a bit sparse, in my opinion. This might be better read in the trade.
Also, first new episode of The Mandalorian was great!

We have a doozy of a review pile this week, folks! The next chapter of X of Swords is a bit of a let down, but we’ve also got pretty wild issues of Power Rangers, Strange Academy and Legion of Super-Heroes. Not to mention the first issue of a new Shang-Chi ongoing!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Fantastic Four #24 for an utterly delightful love letter to classic Marvel Comics. Did you know Iceman was once a member of the Fantastic Four?
Meanwhile, I’ve started playing Hollow Knight and it’s pretty fun. I’m in a bit of video game limbo at the moment as I await Cyberpunk 2077. I played my way through Wasteland 3, but wasn’t taken by it. I had a lot of fun with the Tony Hawk remaster…but using the D-pad so much sprained my thumb. And I can’t seem to get into the Avengers game.
Maybe Baldur’s Gate 3 next week will help fill this void in my gamer soul. Either that, or season 2 of Fall Guys.
