6 Thoughts on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is here and it was awesome! I was very excited for this movie, excited to see martial arts done right on the big screen and excited for the newness of the whole endeavor. I’m also a big fan of representation in media, so I was excited to see Marvel bring an Asian main character into the MCU.

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.

I wasn’t as completely blown away by the movie as I was hoping to be. I had really high hopes for Shang-Chi, and they were mostly met. It’s another fine, enjoyable Marvel movie. I liked everybody in the movie and I definitely look forward to everyone showing up again, both in a sequel and in some future team-ups. I look forward to them joining the circus, and I hope the success Shang-Chi has seen at the box office during the pandemic is more than enough for Marvel to greenlight sequels and more.

Some Shang-Chi Videos For This Idle Tuesday

It’s an idle Tuesday with not a lot going on for me to post about. Granted, I’m sure I could do some digging and find something to write about. But instead I’m just going to share some fun Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings videos from last week! Like a new quickie trailer.

And a featurette that just explores the movie a bit more.

Still very excited about this movie. Still very worried that the resurgence of the virus might ruin everything. We shall see! But Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings comes out on Sept. 3. It’s only a month away!

New Shang-Chi and Suicide Squad Trailers!

This was a great week for movie trailers! Two of the biggest upcoming superhero movies decided to just thrill us with some brand new trailers this week. Seriously, out of nowhere, Marvel dropped a new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings just last night! Where did this beauty come from?

I won’t spoil everything we just saw in that trailer, but holy cow! I don’t think anybody saw that cameo coming! That should be an exciting moment! And we got some stronger, fuller looks at the Ten Rings themselves, and Shang-Chi. All of that looks great to me!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings comes to theaters on Sept. 3, just in time for my birthday!

Next up is a new trailer for The Suicide Squad by James Gunn. I thought we had plenty of trailers for this film, but this new one is great, too!

Interesting new details for Idris Elba’s Bloodsport…though it does seem he really is just a rebooted Deadshot. We’ll see when the movie comes out. Should still be fun. And King Shark might just be the standout character of this movie. Can’t wait for this one either!

The Suicide Squad comes out on Aug. 6!

Get Hyped for Them There Marvel Movies!

It being a random Monday, Marvel has released a sizzle reel trailer to show off their awesomeness and reveal some upcoming dates for new movies. Obviously this is a ploy to get us all to go back to movie theaters…and it works like a charm!

This sizzle reel also features the first footage from The Eternals, which comes out this November. We’ve also got the first logos for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels, the sequels to Black Panther and Captain Marvel respectively.

So yeah, big freakin’ deal, I’d say! Trailer looks great! Marvel has never skimped on those. I’m excited for all the upcoming movies, and I’m already back in the theaters, so you best believe I’ll be seeing all of these upcoming movies on the big screen.

It’s gonna be a busy couple of months. We’ve got Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Eternals and Spider-Man: Far From Home all coming out in the back half of this year. Of 2021!

And next year, we’ve got Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels!

Then, so far, we’ve got Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for 2023.

Should be a good couple of years!

6 Things I Want to See in the Shang-Chi Movie

The first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived earlier this week and it looked awesome! It’s the next new Marvel movie after Black Widow, scheduled to come out on Sept. 3 — only a few days before my birthday! So all signs point to the Shang-Chi film looking great! There’s no reason to doubt that Marvel isn’t going to knock another one out of the park.

But here’s the thing: I know very little about Shang-Chi and have little interest in his comic history.

Despite being a lifelong comic book fan, I simply have no history with Shang-Chi. By the time I started reading comics in the 1990s, the Kung Fu fascination was long gone and Shang-Chi was nobody. I think he’s a great choice for Marvel’s first leading Asian character. And the trailer looks like Marvel went all-in on the classic Hong Kong martial arts cinema. That sounds great! But not being a fan of Shang-Chi in the comics, I’m not even sure what I want to see in the new film…but I’m going to give it a shot anyway!

Join me after the jump for six things I want to see in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
