Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/3/20

We have a doozy of a review pile this week, folks! The next chapter of X of Swords is a bit of a let down, but we’ve also got pretty wild issues of Power Rangers, Strange Academy and Legion of Super-Heroes. Not to mention the first issue of a new Shang-Chi ongoing!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Fantastic Four #24 for an utterly delightful love letter to classic Marvel Comics. Did you know Iceman was once a member of the Fantastic Four?

The Fantastic Four that could have been

Meanwhile, I’ve started playing Hollow Knight and it’s pretty fun. I’m in a bit of video game limbo at the moment as I await Cyberpunk 2077. I played my way through Wasteland 3, but wasn’t taken by it. I had a lot of fun with the Tony Hawk remaster…but using the D-pad so much sprained my thumb. And I can’t seem to get into the Avengers game.

Maybe Baldur’s Gate 3 next week will help fill this void in my gamer soul. Either that, or season 2 of Fall Guys.

Comic Reviews: Fantastic Four #24, Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #3, Legion of Super-Heroes #9, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #54, Shang-Chi #1, Strange Academy #3 and X-Factor #4.

6 Surprise Siblings of Popular Characters

Siblings; can’t live with’em, can’t live without’em. Or something like that. I have two younger siblings, and they’re pretty cool. But this isn’t an article about them. You know who else has siblings? Pop culture characters! And you know what’s even more fun? When those siblings randomly show up out of the blue and are sometimes never heard from again!

Like Enola Holmes, the hit new Netflix movie about Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister.

It’s nice that Millie Bobbie Brown is getting work

I watched Enola Holmes this past weekend and rather enjoyed it. But did you know that she is not canon to the actual Sherlock Holmes stories? Enola Homes is a creation of American author Nancy Springer, who wrote a series of young adult novels about the character between 2006 and 2010. So, surprise! Sherlock Holmes has a younger sister! Kind of!

Turns out, this happens every once and a while in pop culture and I’ve tracked down a couple other random, surprise siblings! Join me after the jump and be in awe!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/26/20

This week was a stark reminder of how little comics I actually read. Nothing on my DC pull list came out this week…despite issues of the likes of Superman, Aquaman, Batgirl and many more. I either need to expand my reading list again or…I don’t know. I just need to read more comics!

Plenty of Marvel comics to enjoy this week, though. From the return of Doctor Doom and Spider-Man to the start of X of Swords! Comic Book of the Week goes to Juggernaut #1 because I liked that one the best!

I do like the new design

Meanwhile, I’ve started watching the show Letterkenny on Hulu. It’s pretty fun. Pretty recommended. And Enola Holmes on Netflix was also good. So I’m in a good place when it comes to watchables right now.

Comic Reviews: Doctor Doom #7, Drakon: New Dawn #2, Juggernaut #1, Spider-Man #4, Spider-Woman #4 and X of Swords: Creation #1.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/12/20

Another week of new comics, another week of new reviews! It’s good to have consistency. Another short week this time, with me only reading new issues of Marauders, X-Factor and The Green Lantern.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Marauders #12 for a big Kate Pryde moment. Also, I love how her hair is drawn.

Let it happen

Meanwhile, The Magnificent Ms. Marvel returned and I looked into it…but it’s a tie-in to the Outlawed storyline going on in Champions. I haven’t read it and didn’t plan on it, so I’m skipping the new Ms. Marvel issue. Man…I just can’t work up any interest in these comic company Big Events anymore. I must be getting old.

Comic Reviews: The Green Lantern: Season 2 #7, Marauders #12 and X-Factor #3.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/5/20

Happy Birthday to me! Tomorrow I turn the ripe old age of 37. Jeez louise. Thankfully, several months of stir craziness and some extra money in my pocket has led to a lot of treating myself! My LEGO Razor Crest is supposed to arrive today, and I indulged in some classic Tony Hawk Pro Skater yesterday! So it’s gonna be a good weekend.

Pretty OK comics this week. I enjoyed all of them, but none really stood out as particularly amazing. So we’re going to award Comic Book of the Week to Strange Adventures #5 because that keeps getting screwy.

Easy does it…

Meanwhile, I really enjoyed the show Teenage Bounty Hunters on Netflix. Such a great new show! It’s highly recommended. One of the best things I’ve watched this summer. Also, I finally got the tpb of Punisher: Soviet and it’s good! Always great to have another taste of Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX.

Double also, I did not get the Avengers video game. I’m going to wait and see how it develops…

Comic Reviews: Batman #98, New Mutants #12 and Strange Adventures #5.
