Go Watch The Mitchells vs. The Machines!

I’d been looking forward to this movie for a while and it lived up to all the hype and excitement! Head to Netflix as soon as you have a moment and go watch The Mitchells vs. The Machines! It’s hilarious, hugely energetic, action-packed and just a great movie.

It’s produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and has their same energy throughout. It’s also made by some of the people behind Gravity Falls. Really strong pedigree behind this film. And in a fun bit of moviemaking, this is a film that doesn’t make its characters’ unique traits the focus of the movie. The main character, Katie, is a lesbian, but it’s not the focus of the movie and it’s barely acknowledged. Likewise, the little brother is on the Autism Spectrum, but again, it’s not the point of his character. It’s not his defining trait. These are just parts of who they are and it’s really neat!

Highly recommend this movie. It’s gonna make my end-of-the-year top 10 list for sure!

Get Hyped for Them There Marvel Movies!

It being a random Monday, Marvel has released a sizzle reel trailer to show off their awesomeness and reveal some upcoming dates for new movies. Obviously this is a ploy to get us all to go back to movie theaters…and it works like a charm!

This sizzle reel also features the first footage from The Eternals, which comes out this November. We’ve also got the first logos for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels, the sequels to Black Panther and Captain Marvel respectively.

So yeah, big freakin’ deal, I’d say! Trailer looks great! Marvel has never skimped on those. I’m excited for all the upcoming movies, and I’m already back in the theaters, so you best believe I’ll be seeing all of these upcoming movies on the big screen.

It’s gonna be a busy couple of months. We’ve got Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Eternals and Spider-Man: Far From Home all coming out in the back half of this year. Of 2021!

And next year, we’ve got Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels!

Then, so far, we’ve got Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for 2023.

Should be a good couple of years!

King Kong Will Never Die!

It’s been a couple of weeks since we all enjoyed Godzilla vs. Kong, so how about one last bit of related joy with the Tell It Animated video for King Kong!

I love these things. The creator has a lot of talent and really found a fun niche. They’ve got a Patreon. They post some fun videos. I hope they are doing well in their chosen niftiness.

There are a lot of options still to go, I would think. As always, my suggestion for a future video is Robin! There are a bunch of live action Robins and Nightwings to choose from.

6 Things I Want to See in the Shang-Chi Movie

The first trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrived earlier this week and it looked awesome! It’s the next new Marvel movie after Black Widow, scheduled to come out on Sept. 3 — only a few days before my birthday! So all signs point to the Shang-Chi film looking great! There’s no reason to doubt that Marvel isn’t going to knock another one out of the park.

But here’s the thing: I know very little about Shang-Chi and have little interest in his comic history.

Despite being a lifelong comic book fan, I simply have no history with Shang-Chi. By the time I started reading comics in the 1990s, the Kung Fu fascination was long gone and Shang-Chi was nobody. I think he’s a great choice for Marvel’s first leading Asian character. And the trailer looks like Marvel went all-in on the classic Hong Kong martial arts cinema. That sounds great! But not being a fan of Shang-Chi in the comics, I’m not even sure what I want to see in the new film…but I’m going to give it a shot anyway!

Join me after the jump for six things I want to see in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The First Shang-Chi Trailer Comes Outta Nowhere!

I don’t think anybody was expecting this today, of all days! But Marvel has released the first trailer, first official look, at Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings! And it looks great!

I love everything I see in this trailer! The action looks superb, really leaning heavily into classic Asian martial arts films. The guy who plays the Mandarin is supposedly a big name in Hong Kong cinema, so that’s cool. And I like Awkwafina a whole bunch, so yay there! I don’t know anything about the main actor, Simon Liu, but the internet is telling me that today is his birthday and Marvel surprised him with this trailer! That’s neat.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings looks great! It comes out on Sept. 3, only a few days before my birthday!
