6 Thoughts on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Review)

Making Black Panther: Wakanda Forever couldn’t have been easy. Ryan Coogler and Chadwick Boseman were well into plotting and scripting this sequel when Boseman passed, after keeping his illness a secret from even his close collaborators. But I’m glad that Coogler, Marvel and the whole cast decided to push through and make this movie the way they did. Wakanda Forever is a big, rich and emotional movie, full of great performances and a really outstanding superhero story.

Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great

I very much enjoyed Wakanda Forever. I didn’t mind the long runtime. I loved the introduction of Namor, even though I’ve never been a fan of the character. I loved the story of the new Black Panther, even though I didn’t think I would. And I think everyone involved truly brought their A games to honor Boseman. It made for an exciting watch. I was already a big fan of the first Black Panther movie, and I think I liked this sequel even more. The same confidence was at play in the filmmaking, and I just think Namor and the Talokans were a wonderful antagonist. Good time all around!

Top 6 Black-Colored Animal Comic Book Characters (Other Than Black Panther)

This week sees the highly anticipated premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever! I’ll be heading to the theater to try to get into the first local showing tomorrow afternoon, and can’t wait to see the big show. And since this blog is all about comic books and superhero movies, I wanted to do something to mark the occasion — and I settled on this really dumb idea.

It’s not a coincidence that I took this week off from work

So hear me out. Black Panther is obviously a cool and popular superhero, but I’ve already done some lists on big cat superheroes. So I thought about how many superheroes exist who are named after colored animals. Red Bee, Crimson Cougar, Yellowjacket, Red Robin; the list goes on and on and there were some good ones. But then I discovered that there are enough black-colored animal comic book characters to make their own list! That’s neat!

So join me after the jump for a whole list of superheroes and villains who are named after the color black and after an animal! Black Panther would obviously top this list, so we’ll leave him out because we already know all about him.

6 Things I Want to See in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

A cool new trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrived this week and it got me thinking about what I want to see in the sequel. We already know the story and most of the new main characters. We know a general course for the film to take. But a man like me, a dorky internet blogger, can still have some hopes and dreams for this awesome, upcoming sequel.

Let’s goooooooo!

Anything can happy in Wakanda Forever. The movie is nearly three hours long, coming in as the second longest MCU movie. I am here for that. I do not mind long movies, and if that’s the length they wanted, give it to them. I trust Ryan Coogler and his team completely in honoring Chadwick Boseman and telling a great story that moves the Black Panther franchise forward. I’m firmly behind the idea of not recasting T’Challa. They could have recast, but that actor would have stepped into such big shoes. Instead, I’m excited to watch the excellent supporting cast step up and embrace the legacy.

We already know a lot of about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but join me after the jump anyway for certain specific things I hope to see in the upcoming sequel.

New Trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever!

This was a surprise, and a welcome one! A new, full trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrived on our internet today and it’s a pretty solid trailer. Not as magical as that music-heavy first trailer, but still pretty solid in terms of showing off the show.

I think Atlantis vs. Wakanda is a great premise/story for the sequel. It keeps things in the realm of kings and kingdoms, and is a pretty big story in its own right. We get confirmation of Ironheart suiting up in the movie — which was probably a given — and many more guesses can be made at the identity of the new, female Black Panther. My money is on Shuri…but it’s also on Shuri starting out in the role, but Nakia getting it by the end. But we’ll see. I have no real clue. Movie looks great!

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters a month from now on Nov. 11.

Marvel Studios Bring the Awesome!

Marvel Studios returned to San Diego Comic Con for the first time in years last night, and they brought the power. They outline the ending of Phase 4 and all of Phase 5, with a hint at Phase 6 even, stretching out into 2025. It all looks pretty great to me!

Specifically, we got some great trailers. Like this first look at the next movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

That is a damn powerful trailer. I am perfectly fine with the idea of not casting the late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. It would have been very simple to just recast him and tell another story where Black Panther fights a new bad guy. But it’s a real creative challenge for everybody else to come together and come up with a great new story that pays respect to his death and legacy. I’m excited!

We also got a new trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. I’m excited for this show, and this trailer looks good.

Some of the CGI looks wonky still, and some looks better. The whole thing overall looks like a great watch. She-Hulk is a fun character, and I really want a procedural law show starring She-Hulk and a bunch of comic book stuff. Should be fun!

Those were the only trailers we got, though the people at Comic Con got some exclusive footage from a bunch of other projects. Good for them.

We got a few new projects revealed last night, all of which sound great.

Out of those, I’m definitely looking forward to what they end up doing with Thunderbolts. And new Avengers movies sound great to me! We have three whole years for them to put together a new Avengers team to star in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. And new Daredevil and Captain America stuff should be a hoot!

Marvel Studios had a great night at Comic-Con and I’m looking forward to all of these things! Gonna be a fun three years, as always.
