Calling It: Justice League is Gonna Stink

The first proper trailer for the Justice League movie arrived on Saturday, and while the rest of the Internet seems blown away, I have arrived at one conclusion: this movie is gonna stink.

The trailer looks exactly like Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Heck, this trailer looks worse than the trailers for those movies. I remember being excited about those trailers.

Justice League looks like just another dark, joyless affair. All people seem to care about is seeing their favorite superheroes in cool poses. But as we keep seeing, that doesn’t make for a good movie. Most of this trailer is just the heroes fighting faceless henchmen. We don’t even get a sense of the villains or the story or the scope of anything. It’s all just gray-colored action posing.

There’s one joke at the end, but the comedic timing is way off.

So I’m calling it right now: Justice League is going to be another dreary, poorly paced, over-stylized action movie that does not save the DC Cinematic Universe.

The New Power Rangers Movie Does a Great Job with Diversity

The new Power Rangers movie blew me away. I saw it last night and loved it! I had a vague idea of what to expect based on the trailers and early reviews, but the film exceeded all of my expectations and delivered an exceptional thrillride of nostalgia and awesomeness. It might help that I was a huge Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fan when I was a kid. And as that fan, I couldn’t be happier with the new, modern re-imagining.

Especially when it comes to the diversity in the cast, because I think Power Rangers was near perfect in building and fleshing out its characters.

The costumes also look great on screen, but make terrible toys

There have been a lot of reviews and think pieces written about the Power Rangers movie so far, especially after the producers made a big deal that the Yellow Ranger, Trini, is gay. This makes her the first openly LGBTQ superhero in the entire superhero genre, which is a pretty notable step forward, even if Power Rangers is an unexpected choice for that distinction.

I’ve seen people decry how underplayed the moment is in the movie, and I’ve seen people decry that it’s not a big enough step forward. As someone who loved the moment and the diversity as a whole in Power Rangers, I wanted to throw my two cents onto the pile.

So join me after the jump for why I think Power Rangers gets diversity so right! There will be some SPOILERS for parts of the movie.

Of Course I’m Going to See the Power Rangers Movie; Try And Stop Me

I loved Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a kid, perhaps too much. So there’s no way to stop me from going to see the new Power Rangers movie tonight!

And with any new movie, our favorite movie parody Youtube sites have done with work on the original Power Rangers movie — which I also enjoyed, at the time.

Here’s hoping this is the start of a new Power Rangers movie franchise! And I’m keeping my eyes peeled for any sign of the Green Ranger, the best Ranger.

Thanks to Screen Junkies for the nifty Honest Trailer.

New Transformers Trailer Brings the Weird

I have no idea what’s going on in the new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. I think…the world has come to an end? It’s like a robot post-apocalypse.

I’m pleased to see that John Goodman’s Transformer is coming back. I’ve always been a little disappointed that most of the supporting robots get killed off quickly or disappear between movies. What’s the point of making these films if you can’t keep the recognizable robots? It can’t just be Bumblebee and Optimus Prime!

Also, am I the only person in the world who wants to see Shia Labeouf and/or Megan Fox to return? I want to see a connected Transformers movieverse.

Double also, I’m a little scared of how they’re going to sexualize this new little girl character. What strange, obscure sex laws are they going to pull out of their pockets this time?

That Same Old Beauty and the Beast Joke, But Slightly Better

The new Beauty and the Beast movie comes out this weekend, which means all our favorite parody Youtube accounts are covering the old Beauty and the Beast cartoon. I’m feeling kind of lazy in the middle of this snowstorm, so I only watched one of them.

Hooray Honest Trailers! They make that same old classic Stockholm Syndrome joke, but they put it to song, so that’s bully on them!

I’m sure the other parody videos are around the Internet somewhere…
