The 6 Characters On My Defenders Team
Welcome to San Diego Comic-Con Week! It’s the biggest week in comics, and I’m excited for all the news and trailers and awesomeness bound to arrive this weekend! An expected highlight this year will be The Defenders from Marvel! They’ve got a new comic book, a new action figure line and their Netflix show arrives in one month! I can’t wait!
As has become a tradition here at Henchman-4-Hire, I like to spend Comic-Con Week playing fantasy superhero draft. Superhero team rosters change all the time. Every new X-Men reboot results in several different team lineups. The Avengers or New Avengers or Champions are always changing! This year, I’m going to pitch you my Defenders lineup. If Marvel hired me to write a Defenders comic, these are the characters I’d put on the team!
In the past, I’ve dreamed up rosters for the Avengers, the Justice League, the Fantastic Four, the Teen Titans, the X-Men, X-Force and the Sinister Six!
6 Thoughts on Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man: Homecoming was great! Hilarious, energetic, with great characters, swell actors and some awesome superheroic action. It’s very reassuring to have a great Spider-Man move in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was wonderful in his introductory cameo in Captain America: Civil War. And I’m quite pleased to say that Marvel has continued that magic with a feature film.
Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great.
I want to go see the movie in theaters again before it’s gone, though this month is jam-packed with movies. War for the Planet of the Apes, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, The Big Sick, Dunkirk; it’s a great month for movies! But I’ll try to squeeze in a bit more Spider-Man: Homecoming. It was just that damn good and fun.
Join me after the jump for my thoughts/review of Spider-Man: Homecoming! Expect full SPOILERS, so be careful!
My 6 Favorite Spider-Man Costumes
It’s Spider-Man movie week! Spider-Man: Homecoming is finally here, and all early reviews peg this thing as amazing! Spectacular, even! I’ll be seeing the film with my usual chaps this weekend and can’t wait. To eat up some of the week and revel in some Spidey goodness, how about a List of my favorite Spider-Man costumes?
I’ve already done lists of my favorite Spidey villains and my hopes for future Spidey movies. But what about costumes? Spider-Man might just be the superhero with the most alternate costumes out there. His original look is just so damn iconic, so perfect, that people can’t help but try out their own designs. It’s great fun, and here’s my rundown of my favorites!
And feel free to share your favorite Spider-Man costumes in the comments below!
6 Coolest Pop Culture Tree People (Not Named Groot)
The best laid plans of mice and men…I had the idea for this List of Six about a year ago. I knew that the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel was coming, and I thought this would make a neat list to post the week that movie came out. It would have been neat synergy! But then something happened to my brain and I forgot all about it. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came and went (and was spectacular).
Everybody loves Groot. He’s fantastic. He’s one of the only Guardians characters I actually like in the comics. Heck, I liked him before he was cool, back when the modern Guardians got their true start in the pages of Annihilation: Conquest. Groot is the best tree.
But he’s not the only tree! Join me after the jump for the six coolest tree people other than Groot!
6 Things I Want From the Transformers Franchise Going Forward
Against all the better judgement from most anybody out there, the Transformers movies return to theaters this week with Transformers: The Last Knight. For some strange reason, the Transformers are now being tied with King Arthur in another big budget, Michael Bay-directed crapshoot. I have a pretty solid love/hate relationship with the Transformers movies. I really enjoyed the first one, but readily agree that every single sequel has been hot garbage — yet I still go see them in theaters opening weekend. Why? I think it’s mostly tradition at this point.
For better or most likely worse, this franchise is going to be with us for a long damn time. This is a billion dollar franchise, and that means Hollywood is never going to stop. Michael Bay has said he won’t direct the next one, but hasn’t he said that before? They’re also talking about spin-offs for a bunch of the characters, like Bumblebee. Why? Money!
So considering the fact that this franchise will likely outlive me, what do I want to see in future Transformers movies? Join me after the jump to find out!
