The 6 Silliest Corporate Partnership Superheroes
I’ve started to notice a new Marvel trailer playing during my recent trips to the movie theater: The Fresh-Men. It’s not for a new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it liberally borrows some ideas. Oh no, this is different, in all the most hilarious ways. The Fresh-Men is Marvel’s latest group of corporate partnership superheroes.

Mavel and AXE Body Spray got together to design some advertising superheroes. This happens more often than you would expect, and sure enough, I’ve found enough examples to put together an entire List of Six! Original, fully-designed superheroes created for a corporate partnership between a comic book company and whatever random corporation or business group is sponsoring the ads. This silliness typically leads to a one-shot comic starring the new character, often created by some top name comic talent. It’s crazy and it’s funny.
There are few things I find more equally hilarious and disingenuous as corporate advertising. So join me after the jump for six pretty pathetic times when this type of advertising attempted to leech off the hipness of comic book superheroes!
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/14/19
We’ve got a big, fat stack of comics this week, and all of them were good or better! Sometimes I worry that I’m too positive in my comic reviews…but then I remember that I only really read comics I already enjoy. Perhaps I’m a fraud!
Nah, I don’t think that. I’m just a dude giving my thoughts on the comics I like! And hopefully you all enjoy reading. This week we’ve got some real zingers from the likes of Batman, Go Go Power Rangers, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and much more! Comic Book of the Week goes to the return of Wonder Twins for another perfect issue!
Name a more famous superhero catch phrase
Meanwhile, I am really liking Event Leviathan! It’s a whole mess of Bendis-speaking and not showing, but it involves some interesting characters, an interesting mystery, and some of the best cliffhangers I’ve seen in comics in a long time! It’s like comics forgot how to do a proper cliffhanger, and Bendis is schooling everybody with these twists and surprises!

Everything We Know About Tim Drake’s New Identity
I’ve put off writing this article for a long time. It’s a tough moment, but one that has been coming for years of fits and starts.
Tim Drake will soon finally graduate from being a Robin.
Thanks, I hate it
This has been a very long time coming. Damian Wayne, the current Robin, debuted all the way back in 2006. It was a tough pill to swallow at the time, but I think 13 years is enough time to accept that Tim Drake isn’t Robin anymore. It didn’t help that Tim “graduated” into being “Red” Robin for those past 13 years, while reverting to just Robin again only recently (maybe?).
What can I say? Tim Drake is the best Robin and my favorite Robin. He arrived on the scene in that cool new costume just as I was really getting into comics on my own. And with a love for the character already brewing from the old TV shows and the 90s cartoons, Tim was my Robin.
I’ll be OK.
Tim’s new name is going to be “Drake”. He gets it from an alternate dimension version of himself in Young Justice #8, out this week.
Respect the mighty male duck
Obviously it’s his last name, but a drake is a male duck, and ducks are not to be messed with (I guess? Are we sure Bendis isn’t thinking of geese?). So I suppose it’s fine. It’s still a bird name, which is OK. Batman has a lot of bird allies these days.
And at least he can keep the cool name icon
I will make my peace with this over time. I think that new costume is pretty ugly, all browns and grays and unnecessary lines.
It’ll be OK. The only constant is change. Hopefully this will all work out for the best.
Now if only we could get a new Robin to replace Damian…

The Top 6 Reptile Superheroes
Animals are at the heart of all superheroes. Two of the most popular superheroes of all time — Batman and Spider-Man — are just dudes with animal themes. And I’ve made it my mission to explore some of the rare and obscure animal themes in comics. This time we’re going to look at the wild world of reptiles!
A fine example
I’ve already explored birds, dinosaurs, dogs, pigs and frogs, among others. But how about reptiles? People are terrified of reptiles! Snakes and lizards and other green, scaly things are pretty ooky! But why aren’t there more reptile-based comic book characters? Would it really be so weird? Why do Batman and Spider-Man get a pass?

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/7/18
If you’re reading this, I’m probably on the road! Got a long drive today to a cousin’s wedding down in Maryland. Hopefully it’s neat! Then a long drive back home tomorrow. Fortunately, had some good comics this week to sustain my imagination,
We got two doses of FF this week, with both Fantastic Four and Future Foundation! The latter was less than stellar, while the former won Comic Book of the Week for it’s nifty premise!
It’s like 1961 all over again!
Meanwhile, the second issue of the Scream mini-series shows us that Scream could be her own self again, that she’s not just Carnage’s puppet. That gives me hope for her upcoming solo series. And while the new Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy mini-series has a fun first issue, it was too bland to dig into it with a proper review.
In other random news, I finally finished off Kurtis Wiebe’s run on Rat Queens. It’s a bit of a rushed ending, but still good stuff. It’s a great comic overall if you’re ever looking for something to read. Maybe I’ll do a larger article on Rat Queens one of these days…
