6 Comic Super-Villains I Want to Get Solo Movies
It’s my birthday this week (Friday) and so I have decided to do a List of Six that is pure, unadulterated wish fulfillment. I was struggling to come up with a topic that wasn’t just me gushing about how much I love the Green Ranger or Multiple Man. But after hearing about all the positive early reactions to the upcoming Joker movie, I’ve decided to just gush about my favorite comic book super-villains.
I don’t have any interest in the Joker movie. I’ll go see it, and maybe it’ll be good. But I’ve never cared for the Joker as a character, and I don’t like the attitude surrounding this movie. I am an avowed Marvel fanboy, but this isn’t a Marvel vs. DC thing to me. I’ll gladly watch DC superhero movies and hope they’ll be good. But the buzz around the Joker feels, to me, like people are going to crow that DC can make smart, high brow movies while Marvel is stuck making entertaining blockbusters, and that’s just silly.
Joker also seems to exist to spite traditional superhero movies. Mark Maron seems like a really funny guy — he’s great on GLOW — but I don’t need Mark Maron telling me it’s not proper to love the hell out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
All that being ranted, join me after the jump for six comic book villains who I think could and should get their own solo movie. Morbius definitely wouldn’t be on my list.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/31/19
Vacation! All I ever wanted! I’m on break from work for the next week and will be heading to a cousin’s wedding in Ocean City, Maryland next weekend. Anybody have any good memories of the place? I’ll still post throughout the week, though, because I’m mostly staying home for my week off. Should be great.
Plenty of good comics this week, from House of X to Power Rangers to the last regular issue in Jason Aaron’s now-legendary Thor run. But Comic Book of the Week goes to the new issue of Runaways for just a delightful issue about teenage crimefighting.
Meanwhile, Absolute Carnage is still a pretty cool comic. The second issue is more subdued than the first, but still a quality read. The tie-ins are OK so far. It’s fun seeing the Life Foundation symbiotes active again. Maybe we’ll get a new Hybrid out of this…
Comic Reviews: Captain America #13, House of X #3, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #42, Runaways #24 and Thor #16.
Next Up is How Spider-Man: Far From Home Should Have Ended!
The marathon of fun YouTube videos continues today with a How It Should Have Ended, this time tackling Spider-Man: Far From Home! And they really have some funny alternate endings this time, which is always a plus.
Fun times! I love it best when this channel sticks to its chosen path. I love it best when this channel stays in their lane! That’s right, I said it. You chose your gimmick, you’re stuck with your gimmick!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/24/19
What a roller coaster week for comic book fans! In the same week that we lose Spider-Man in the MCU (for now), we also learn that we’re getting Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk in the MCU! Honestly, I’m OK with that trade, though I’m confident Disney and Sony will return to the bargaining table. Spider-Man isn’t even part of Phase 4, so there’s plenty of time.
At least this week’s comics were pretty great! Batman, Jimmy Olsen, Iron Man, Valkyrie; all quality comics. But I’m going to give Comic Book of the Week to Powers of X #3 for a twist that gives this event a nice shot to the arm as we near the midway point.
Meanwhile, I may give up on Guardians of the Galaxy for now. I’ve always been lukewarm about this comic. It’s fine and enjoyable, and clearly well written, but it hasn’t really been doing anything for me, personally. The latest issue is mostly a recap of Rocket Raccoon’s origins, coupled with what turns out to be a really lame reason why everybody hates Rocket. Maybe I’ll keep trying going forward, but based on solicitations for November, Beta Ray Bill might be moving on to a new Annihilation story anyway.
Of course, that comic is written by Matthew Rosenberg, killer of superheroes, so maybe Bill’s inclusion is a bad sign.
Comic Reviews: Batman #77, Jimmy Olsen #2, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #6, Powers of X #3, Tony Stark – Iron Man #15 and Valkyrie #2.
Meet the New Characters in Gamer Girl & Vixen!
Good news, everybody! Gamer Girl & Vixen Volume 2 has started production! New series artist Andrea Rosales has been given the greenlight to get started on a 9-page preview for the next volume, which I can’t wait to share with you all in the weeks to come! I am very excited to be making comics again and I need to be better about using my blog to brag about my work.

For those of you who don’t know, Gamer Girl & Vixen is my self-published comic that I write with my friend Kristi McDowell. We started a few years ago and managed to produce our own graphic novel, which is still available to order from our online store.
Gamer Girl & Vixen is the story of two super-villains who meet cute on the rooftops of New York and use their powers to rob celebrities!
It’s also much more than that! It’s an LGBTQ+ love story about two cat burglars who hook up to commit crimes and get busy! It’s got character drama, romance, thievery and costumed fisticuffs!
Volume 2 is going to continue the story as our main characters get into even more trouble. Now that they’re the hot new super-villains on the scene, they attract the attention of some bigger, more established baddies. I can’t wait to introduce the world to our new villain: Tyrannosaurus Regina!
I am beyond thrilled at how Regina has turned out as a character. She sees herself as the Beyonce of Crime, a rising star dedicated to her work. And she sees in Gamer Girl & Vixen the chance to boost her popularity and add some new talent to her crew.
Her crew is Jurassix! They’re a notorious crime band, pulling off major heists and then rocking out on stage at some underground super-villain clubs. Regina is lead vocalist, with the Hammer Sisters on guitar and bass, and Monkeyshines on drums.
And those are the major new characters for Volume 2! There will be at least one more major new character in the comic, but we don’t have him fully designed just yet. And there are plenty more characters to come in the Gamer Girl & Vixen universe!
I’m going to try and do a better job of keeping you henchies up to date on new developments in my comic. You’re always my strongest supporters and I hope you enjoy reading my comic as much as you enjoy reading my blog, assuming you enjoy reading my blog.
I’m just full of such assumptions!
