Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/30/16

Wowzers, what a week! Let me share with you just how insane this week was for me. First of all, it was the final week of my Kickstarter for Gamer Girl & Vixen, and we hit our fundraising goal on Wednesday! Hooray! Second of all, this was also the week I was moving into a new apartment, and that took several days. So there’s some exhaustion. And then this just happened to be the most insane week for comics in a long time!

Not only did a new issue of Teen Titans come out, which I always give a big review. But this week saw new issues of Batman, Batgirl, Amazing Spider-Man, All-New Wolverine, Saga, Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel, Patsy Walker, Grayson, We Are Robin, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Harley Quinn, Faith, and so many more! This would have been a wonderful week of reading, if I wasn’t so exhausted from moving and finishing up a Kickstarter.

Fortunately, I did get to a couple of quality comics this week, so at least there’s that. This includes Comic Book of the Week for Ms. Marvel #6, for it’s lovely story of growing up superhero.

Classic Kamala!

Also, as a double reminder, my Kickstarter has blown past its fundraising goal this week! So the Gamer Girl & Vixen graphic novel is definitely getting made! If you want to snag a copy, head over to the Kickstarter! The campaign ends Monday morning.

Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #7, Amazing Spider-Man #11, Batman #51, Doctor Strange #7, Ms. Marvel #6 and Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #5.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/2/16

Not a very big week for comics, I’m afraid — unless you count the launch of the Gamer Girl & Vixen Kickstarter today! Gamer Girl & Vixen is my own, self-published comic, and we’re trying to raise money to put out a 100-page graphic novel this year! Click the link and come check out the project. We’re even letting everyone read the first issue for free to see if you’ll like it or not! Any henchies interested in pre-ordering my comic are much appreciated!

In the regular comics world, this was a quiet week with few titles released. But that makes it perfect for the final issue of Batman and Robin Eternal! I’ve been slacking on covering this series, especially since it turned out to be pretty darn good. Batman and Robin Eternal #26 gets Comic Book of the Week!

Very close to everything I want in comics

Join me after the jump for my take on the entire 26-issue series. I rather enjoyed myself.

Comic Reviews: Batman and Robin Eternal #26 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #6.

Review: Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice

I’m not really sure what I think about Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. I can’t bring myself to say it’s a bad movie, because it’s competently made and sometimes enjoyable. But I can’t bring myself to say it’s a good movie, because it’s utterly joyless and, at times, terribly made. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is the Transformers of superhero movies. It’s a big, CGI mess of darkness and explosions, but sometimes it’s fun seeing these characters on screen, and it’s going to make all the money.

Movie Rating: 5/10 – Alright.

At the very least, it’s kind of cool to see these superheroes on the big screen together. Part of me did get excited to see Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman standing together against adversity (even if we’d already seen it in the trailers). But another part of me wished the movie was more fun. BvS is a dark, drab, gritty production that puts even the Christopher Nolan Batman movies to shame. This film is the exact opposite of the successful and wonderful Marvel movies. There’s no charm, no joy, no heroics and, most important, no fun.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is the grimdark superhero trend taken to its ultimate conclusion. If you like your superheroes as grimdark and serious as possible, this might be the movie for you. But I would have liked something more enjoyable.

Batlexander Manilton is More Proof That the Internet is Amazing

The musical Hamilton continues to invade pop culture with song parodies, and they’re so good that I really want to see this musical somehow. But considering I can’t afford Broadway, that’s not about to happen anytime soon. Still, here’s Batlexander Manilton!

We have the geniuses at Turtle Cameron to thank for today’s opening musical.

And speaking of Batman, I’m going to try and get my review of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice posted this afternoon!

I Don’t Know What I’m Going to Do About Teen Titans in DC: Rebirth!

If you haven’t yet heard, DC Comics announced their entire Rebirth lineup at Wondercon today, with all sorts of artwork, new creative teams and more galore! I’m all in favor of pretty much everything they’re planning. As long as it means good comics, I’m on board. They can shake up their lineups all they want. And there are some pretty big shake ups on the way. Nothing as serious as the New 52, but there will definitely be some new stuff out there.

If you haven’t seen the new lineups, I recommend visiting Newsarama or Comic Book Resources. They are much better equipped than I am to handle this stuff. I’m only interested in the parts of Rebirth I’m actually interested in. I’m definitely going to be checking out a lot of the new books, from the Batman books to the Justice League, and I think I’ll try to get back into Aquaman, Wonder Woman and perhaps even some Green Lantern, since my favorite Lantern, Simon Baz, is going to get some attention finally.

But the biggest question I have going forward is what the heck I’m going to do about Teen Titans! The series that I have been reviewing month in and month out since the start of the New 52 will be no more! Those reviews are some of the most popular articles on my blog. So where do I go from here?

It’s time for Damien to retire

What am I supposed to do with this version of the Teen Titans?
