6 Characters Who Need to Appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie Post-Credits Scene

The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks pretty dang cool. Chris Pratt’s voice acting aside, the size, scope and attention to detail we’ve seen in the trailers so far is pretty amazing. From King Koopa invading the icy penguin kingdom to Mario Karts riding eternal on the Rainbow Road, I am loving the approach they’re taking to this movie. They’re keeping things cartoony, while taking the lore very seriously. As the pop culture geek that I am, I like that approach.

So how far are they willing to take it?

Actual plumbing jobs?

It can be assumed that the filmmakers are hoping for a while franchise. That’s how movies work these days. And there is 40-some years of Mario Bros. mythology to draw from. We saw Yoshis, fire flowers, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart in the trailers so far, imagine what else might be hiding in the movie. Or, better yet, imagine who they’re saving for a post-credits scene? Will the movie have a post-credits scene? Obviously I have no idea. But imagine the possibilities! Imagine who they could draw from to throw into the film. Post-credits scenes are still hugely popular, and the sky is the limit for The Super Mario Bros. Movie!

Join me after the jump for six suggestions for that crucial, post-credits, sequel-teasing cameo.

Hopefully The Witcher: Blood Origin Will Be A Good Show

Even after losing star Henry Cavill from the main Witcher show, Netflix is full steam ahead on more Witcher content. We had that one cartoon — Nightmare of the Wolf, which was great — and we’ve got a third season coming out soon enough. Now next up we will get another live action show, The Witcher: Blood Origin. Looks pretty neat.

It also looks like half House of the Dragon/half Andor. A prequel series that’s about fighting a fascist empire? Throw in a little Lord of the Rings with that fellowship of various fantasy races and you’ve got quite the show on your hands. It could be good. I know I’ll be watching, because why not?

The Witcher: Blood Origin comes out on Christmas Day…though I probably won’t watch it right then.

The Last of Us Will Hopefully Be A Good Show

We got a full trailer for the upcoming The Last of Us TV show, and while it’s a fun trailer, it’s not as good as that moody, musical first trailer we got. But hey, the show still looks good, with some quality CGI fungus zombies to entertain us.

I have high hopes for this show — just like I have high hopes for most shows — and I expect good things. I’m hoping they fit the entire first game into the first season, but they’ll probably split it in half or something. Or maybe we’ll get 11 long seasons like The Walking Dead. I don’t know. We’ll find out!

The Last of Us comes to HBO on Jan. 15…which is a little more than a month away! Wow!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews 12/3/22

Christmas Time is here! Magic is in the air. It’s cold out. Life moves on. And we got some really good comics this week. Granted, it was a fifth week, so that usually leads to some smaller offerings. But I was pleased with stuff like Strange Academy and X-Terminators.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Justice Society of America #1 for a strong, if potentially confusing, first issue. Everybody had better have done their homework ahead of this one.

Old dudes are go

Meanwhile, I’m enjoying Pokemon Violet, though I can never seem to find time to play it. That’s on me. But then there’s no harm in taking it slowly. I loved the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It was so heartwarming! And I got to see Glass Onion in theaters, which was marvelous. So things are going rather well for me in pop culture land.

Comic Reviews: Justice Society of America #1, Strange Academy: Finals #2 and X-Terminators #3.

Guardians, Beast Wars and Indiana Jones All Dropped Trailers Yesterday

A big comic convention took place in Brazil yesterday, and that led to a whole bunch of big, new trailers arriving online. A lot of them are probably gearing up for Avatar: The Way of Water, but what sort of Thursday gives us the first trailers for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? These are three big movies that I’m really excited about! Or at least two of them. I’m not big on Indiana Jones.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

I was never a big Indiana Jones fans. I loved the movies as a kid, sure, but I’m no super fan. And Kingdom of the Crystal Skull didn’t make anybody happy. But we’re back with Dial of Destiny and it looks fine. Pretty much fun. Harrison Ford looks old and Harrison Fordy. Phoebe Waller-Bridge will hopefully be cool. But ultimately we’re all going to be sad that they couldn’t squeeze Short Round into this movie. He’s acting again. Did you see Everything Everywhere All At Once? It’s a masterpiece!

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny comes to theaters on June 30.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

I loved Beast Wars. I even loved Beast Machines! They were great shows, really cutting edge in the 1990s for a multitude of reasons, not just the CGI animation. It had rich stories, rich characters and that one cool Maximal that was half wolf/half eagle. Silverbolt! He’s my favorite! But he’s not gonna be in this movie. I’m excited for this film. I didn’t even know it was happening! I thought they were maybe making a Beast Wars chapter of that recent Transformers Netflix cartoon? I dunno…guess it’s a full movie!

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will arrive on June 9.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Here’s the one we’ve been waiting for! We should have gotten this movie years ago, if it wasn’t for all that trouble James Gunn had. I think it’s all worked out for the best, though. We got The Suicide Squad, we got Peacemaker, we got the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and we’re still getting Volume 3. So it’s all worked out nicely. And this one should be amazing! Gunn is gonna tug on all of our heart strings by finishing Rocket’s story. Should be a hoot.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out on May 5.
