Avengers: Infinity War; I’m in it for the Banter

The new Avengers: Infinity War trailer is here and it’s pretty awesome!

Honestly, I’m starting to feel like this Thanos threat is going to be a pretty daunting challenge for the filmmakers. How do they turn something so nebulous and vast as Thanos and intergalactic armies of faceless aliens into an adversary that doesn’t just feel like a big, CGI mess? Granted, I have 110% faith in Marvel Studios and the Russo brothers to pull this off with aplomb, but I am having some slight fears.

On the other hand, the witty banter in this trailer is on freakin’ point! Tony and Star-Lord is great! Peter and Dr. Strange at the end is great! If nothing else, this movie is going to give us some fun new banter partners!

Movie comes out on April 27. The wait hopefully won’t be too terrible.

Benedict Cumberbatch is an Ideal Doctor Strange!

Word is spreading like wildfire today that British thespian Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as Doctor Strange for the upcoming movie! I couldn’t be happier! Seriously, I think he’s the perfect choice for the Sorcerer Supreme, on multiple levels!

Though I’m not sure about a Cumber-beard

Deadline broke the news, and several other agencies are picking it up. They say Cumberbatch is in final negotiations, and I’m fairly certain Deadline has been right about a lot of Marvel’s casting over the months, so this is probably a lock. Woot!

I’m a huge Cumberbatch fan. I first saw him on Sherlock, obviously, which is one of my favorite shows. He’s stellar as the title character, even in these later seasons. I liked him on Star Trek Into Darkness, one of my top two favorite movies last year. And he’s great as the dragon Smaug in the Hobbit films. I haven’t seen any of his smaller, personal work, but who needs to? Cumberbatch has presence, and that’s important!

First of all, he really seems like he’d fit the character. He’s aristocratic, with very noble mannerisms. He’s also more than a little odd. That seems like a solid Doctor Strange to me.

He’s drinking tea, that’s totally British!

Second of all, people love Cumberbatch! He’s huge with female audiences, which sounds perfect for a Marvel film! He’s got a built-in fanbase who probably already enjoy the Marvel movies, so this team-up sounds like a no-brainer.

So consider me totally on board with this casting! What do you guys and gals think? And check out my list of the 6 things I want to see in the Dr. Strange film!

Change. Change Never Changes. The Next Marvel NOW!

Guess what! Marvel Comics has a bunch of awesome plans in store for all of their most popular characters! And for a few of their upcoming movie stars! They’re setting up their third Marvel NOW! wave, and personally, I think it all looks pretty neat. Check out this lineup!

The Amazing Avengers? Invincible Avengers? Irredeemable Avengers?

If you haven’t heard yet, we’ve got female Thor and the fact that Sam Wilson, the Falcon, is taking over at Captain America. I’m a big fan of that idea. Cap with wings? Bring it on! The Winter Soldier is getting a new series, where he becomes the protector of Earth. Deathlok is getting a reboot to bring him closer to his TV counterpart. And Marvel is still trying desperately to make Inhuman happen. See that flaming guy in the picture there? That’s Inferno, the new Inhuman. He and Medusa are the stars of the comic Inhuman, which has published all of 2 issues so far. If Marvel is really serious about making the Inhumans a force to be reckoned with, they are failing terribly.

Seriously, Inhuman is terrible. Inferno should be ashamed to be in that group picture.

Also in that picture, you can see Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, both of whom have upcoming movies on the Marvel slate. I’m excited for both, and if Marvel can get both heroes their own comics, that would be a blast. Marvel is doing great things with comics these days. I’m dying for a quality Ant-Man comic.

Entertainment Weekly has some of the details.

Iron Man is getting a big change too. See his fancy new white/silver armor? That’s the Superior Iron Man!

Iron Man is suddenly big into testing

Tony Stark will be moving to San Francisco, where he plans to implement some darker, tougher technology upgrades. Tony’s going a little dark. Good for him.

I don’t know about you, but all of this looks great to me. Maybe I’m just really into Marvel these days. I know that’s the truth. They can do little wrong in my book. I have always been a Marvel man, and the various Marvel NOW! campaigns have been comic book gold. So you better believe I’m excited to get my hands on some of these new books.

This is going to be the year of the Ant-Man!

6 Things I Want to See in the Dr. Strange Movie

Dr. Strange movie rumors have started percolating across the Internet, and a big announcement is expected at Comic-Con this year. The Sorcerer Supreme has long been hinted at being in pre-production, but it seems the time has finally come to turn those rumors into fact. Good for Dr. Strange. Personally, I’ve never been a fan, but I definitely encourage Marvel Studios to reach beyond their comfort zone for new movies. Nobody expected Iron Man to be such a huge hit, after all.

So how exactly is Marvel going to fit Dr. Strange into their ever-growing Movieverse?

They’ll have to make some room

For those who don’t know, Dr. Strange is a superhero who does magic. There’s a big dangerous world of black magic and mysticism out there, and Dr. Strange is our defender, using his own power to keep us safe from evil sorcerers and Voldemorts. But Dr. Strange is not just some Copperfield-esque stage magician. He really knows magic, with a whole host of spells, artifacts and incantations at his disposal. The Marvel Movieverse has touched upon magic before – through Thor, Loki and Asgard – but never on the scale of Dr. Strange. He’ll bring a whole new style to the movies, and I for one am looking forward to a Dr. Strange movie. Being the helpful blogger that I am, here are 6 suggests for Marvel Studios on how to make a great Dr. Strange movie!
