Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/22/24
Another week where a lot of my favorite comics come out! But I’m not reviewing everything anymore these days. Some times a new comic is just really enjoyable, but there’s not much I have to say about it, so to spare my sanity sometimes, I’m just not going to include it. Looking at you, latest excellent issue of Nightwing…But we do have new Batman and Ultimate Spider-Man comics!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Woman #10 for a truly emotional and heartfelt issue that finally addresses the Cheetah in the room.
Meanwhile, not much else going on for me right now. I’m juggling a few different video games until I settle on something big and new. Maybe Elden Ring, finally? I’m not really vibing with The Acolyte, haven’t started The Boys. Haven’t read any of my big pile of graphic novels. Moving along nicely on making Gamer Girl & Vixen. And surviving this heat wave. So yeah, just kinda strolling along through life.
Comic Reviews: Batman #149, Ultimate Spider-Man #6 and Wonder Woman #10.
Read the rest of this entryHere’s a New Look at that Penguin TV Show (No, the New One)
The Penguin is still coming to Max, now set for a September release. I’m excited. I very much enjoyed The Batman movie and I think it’s a great idea to actually see that spin off into a legitimate TV show. Plus, TV has been making successful and enjoyable crime shows for decades. Surely somebody can take that winning formula and apply it to Gotham City, right?!
I think it looks good. Colin Farrell is obviously going to great lengths to bring this character to life, and he was very entertaining in The Batman. So just apply that to a hopefully gripping, dangerous and exciting crime show and we could have magic happen! And then, hopefully, somebody will just turn Gotham Central into a TV show as well, in the same universe.
And hopefully they won’t be afraid to use Batman, at least a little.
The Penguin comes to Max in September.

They’re Making An Animated Watchmen
Man, nothing is going on this week other than the heat. I’ve had a lot of success either staying in my air conditioned office or my air conditioned home (my car’s AC is broken). So I haven’t really worried about the heat. But in order to fulfill my oath of posting something online every once and a while, here’s the trailer for the first parts of an animated Watchmen adaptation.
We’ve had a number of Watchmen adaptations over the years. There was a motion comic once that I watched, and it had one, male voice actor doing the voices for everybody. Will this one be any different? I don’t know! But it promises to be very faithful to the comic. I think they’re just going to animate the comic right off that page. That might be neat!
Watchmen Parts 1 & 2 come out in August! And…uh…I don’t know in what format. On Max? In theaters? Surely not on DVD…

Tuesday Trailer Dump
So I haven’t been very busy posting the past few days because I’ve been busy and because we’re at the start of a heat wave here. It’s gonna be 90+ degrees farenheit where I live for a week straight. That’s insane! So I’m hoping to survive any way that I can, and that includes not worrying about posting.
But I’ve got time now to put this together, so I thought I’d just dump a bunch of trailers I’ve been saving up and talk about them all at once! Just to let you know about some upcoming shows that have me interested. I think they’re mostly shows or show-like projects.
First up, the final season of The Umbrella Academy is coming up. I very much enjoy this show and look forward to seeing it through to the end. Honestly, anything could happen, and I’m down for that.
Looks like fun! Let it be wild and end on a good note. Glad they got to finish this one.
The Umbrella Academy returns to Netflix on Aug. 8.
Next up is a trailer for the next season of Dimension 20! I’ve been a subscriber to Dropout since the very beginning, and I really should feature more of their shows and trailers. They’re becoming way more mainstream, which is awesome! Dimension 20 is their live action role playing show, and next season is Never Stop Blowing Up.
Looks to be a Jumanji situation, where a bunch of characters get sucked into a VHS tape and become new action movie characters. Sadly, there don’t appear to be any sets, but I don’t think they’re playing Dungeons & Dragons this time. I think it’s a homebrew take on Kids on Bikes. So we’ll see!
Never Stop Blowing Up comes to Dropout on June 26, so next week! How exciting.
Lastly, to take things in a complete random direction, is this trailer I saw and liked about a TV show called Sunny coming to AppleTV+. Not every show on that service is a straight up banger, like when I first started watching, but most are pretty good.
Anyway, Sunny is about Rashida Jones investigating the death of her husband with the help of one of those modern robots, in Japan. Could be neat and weird.
I like weird and neat. And I’m largely open to new shows, especially if I randomly find them myself. So this could be something fun! Or maybe nobody will ever talk about it ever again. We’ll see.
Sully comes to AppleTV+ on July 10.

LEGO Bumblebee Threatens My Wallet
I am an adult LEGO builder. I wouldn’t call myself a collector. I just like buying and building these things, then finding somewhere in my meager apartment to store them and let them collect dust. And now there’s another set on my horizon: Bumblebee the Transformer! LEGO has made a second Transformers set!
I think these are nifty keen! The amount of thought and engineering that goes into making a LEGO model that transformers into a second LEGO model is just plan cool! I bought the Optimus Prime set when it first came out and only finally got around to building it a couple of weeks ago. It looks great! So I’m definitely gonna get Bumblebee to add to that collection.
I told myself I wasn’t going to spend money on LEGO this year. I’m saving my sights for the X-Mansion whenever that shows up. But this Bumblebee looks awesome! It’s gonna cost only about $90 when it releases on July 4.
