6 Comic Book Characters Who Have Seen the Light-Based Powers

Christmastime is upon us! As is Hannukah and any other wintery holiday of your choice! The snow has fallen. The TV specials are on. It gets really cold. And almost all of my Christmas shopping is done. But mostly importantly, the Christmas lights are up! So let’s tie that into superheroes!

Some people really dig Christmas

Some people really dig Christmas

When I was little, my family would play the Christmas Light Game in the car on a long ride home. My brother sat on one side of the back seat and I sat on the other, and we counted all the houses that had lights on our side of the street. Whoever had the most houses won! Unfortunately, there aren’t any Christmas light specific comic book characters, but I think I can cheat a little with just superheroes and villains with light-based super-powers. These are all characters who can generate and manipulate light or light energy.

Join me after the jump to get into the festive spirit of brightness!

Those Mortal Kombat Movies Were Honestly Terrible

Procrastination! Woohoo! Let the good times keep rolling!

I’m a big fan of Mortal Kombat lore. We do exist. Smoke is one of my all-time favorite video game characters, and I just really dig his story in the games — I dig a lot of the Mortal Kombat stories. But yeah, the movies are terrible. They are so, so bad. We didn’t necessarily need and Honest Trailer to tell us that, but it’s good that they went this far.

This New John Wick Trailer Will Help My Procrastination

So I still haven’t written my Rogue One movie review, for reasons that are almost purely procrastinative. Just been busy at work and at home playing some new video games. Life is busy for a slacker blogger! Maybe the review will go up today. Or maybe later. All I know for sure is that there’s a neat new trailer for John Wick 2.

The first John Wick was fun, and because it was semi-successful, the laws of the universe mean that the producers start claiming it was “envisioned” as a trilogy. So expect a third one! Let’s hope they stay goodish.

The New Ducktales Cartoon is Going All Out!

Did you know that they’re making a new Ducktales cartoon? The news has been all over the Internet because the marketing team is on point with their attempts at viral videos. Check out this musical one!

Clearly this was built by someone who recognizes how iconic that theme song has become to we now-adults who grew up watching Ducktales. I was one of them. I was right there in the thick of things, as Ducktales was definitely one of my favorite cartoons from my youth. So this video is made expressly for people like me, old fans who are definitely going to check out the new movie. I’m not going to fight it. Why would I? When you’ve got Kate Micucci as Webby and David Tennant as Scrooge McDuck? The casting in this cartoon looks to be kind of insane. I love it already.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – Dec. 17, 2016

Sometimes I complain that comics don’t feature holiday stories anymore, but then I never read the specific holiday-themed one shots that both Marvel and DC tend to release. I want to see Batman do Christmas stuff in the actual pages of Batman! Holiday-themed comic book specials are about as entertaining to read as holiday-themed TV specials.

Fortunately, we still have good comics to read otherwise. Detective Comics and Power Man and Iron Fist continue to be great, while Mosaic and Jessica Jones continue to disappoint. But this week also saw the release of the new Hawkeye series, and it wins Comic Book of the Week for a really fun vibe for a first issue.

Also, wha’td everybody think of the new Star Wars movie? I thought it was pretty spectacular. Working on my full review still.

Comic Reviews: Detective Comics #946, Hawkeye #1, Jessica Jones #3, Mosaic #3 and Power Man and Iron Fist #11.
