My 6 Favorite Villains
What makes a favorite villain? How do I choose? I came across an AskReddit thread the other day asking people for their favorite villains, and it made me pause. Who were my favorite villains in pop culture? I could tell you dozens of my favorite heroes, both large and small, most of whom I connect with on a personal level. But for some reason, I couldn’t think of any real villains that I would consider my “favorite”. I couldn’t think of any villain characters that I had a real connection with or interest in.
So I gave it a lot more thought and I think I’ve come up with a pretty solid list.
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of bad guys I like. Magneto is probably the greatest comic book super-villain of all time, and I love the character, but I don’t have any real personal interest in Magneto. Darth Vader is probably the greatest villain in pop culture history, but I’ve never really cared about Vader (though his recent revival has been awesome).
Al Swearengen in Deadwood is a phenomenal villain who I really liked on the show, but again, not a character I connect with on a personal level — plus he was kind of a hero by the end. Heck, a lot of good villains I like end up being converted to the side of the angels by the end, or I only really started caring about them when they became heroes, like Ben Linus on Lost.
I think I’ve come up with a pretty solid list. Here are six(ish) villains who stay villains (so far) and who I do like as characters on a personal level. I’m surprised at how difficult it was to make this list, but I’m happy with it. Be prepared for some long-winded explanations.
And please feel free to share your own favorite villains in the comments!
Star Wars: Rebels Coming to An End
Star Wars: Rebels has grown on me over the years, so I’m a little sad that next fall’s fourth season will be it’s last.
But hey, we all knew this couldn’t last forever. There couldn’t still be Jedi hanging around when Luke Skywalker arrives on the scene. So is the fourth season gonna get really dark? Will we see the Battle of Scarif from the Rebels’ perspective? Will Ahsoka return?
Guess we’re gonna find out!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/15/17
So, uh, I kind of went a little overboard with the reviews this week, everybody. Sorry about that. It just so happens that a metric ton of my favorite Marvel comics all come out on the same day, and I didn’t want to skip over any of them! So be prepared for everything from Amazing Spider-Man to Unstoppable Wasp to Mosaic to the final issue of Power Man and Iron Fist! Plus I wanted to try out a couple more ResurrXion comics.
Fortunately, this week also delivered one of the best issues of Silver Surfer yet, an easy Comic Book of the Week! That comic is magical! Silver Surfer #10 combines tragic romance with all my favorite bits of Silver Surfer mythology, making for a wonderful issue.
Meanwhile, I really, really, really want to get back into reading more DC Comics. Now that Gotham Academy is coming to an end and Greg Rucka is leaving Wonder Woman, I’m going to try to get caught up on those two series so I can review them through the end.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #26, Detective Comics #954, Mosaic #7, Power Man and Iron Fist #15, Silver Surfer #10, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #19, Unstoppable Wasp #4, Weapon X #1 and X-Men Blue #1.
Hey, Did You Hear That They’re Making a New Star Wars?
God bless you if my little ol’ blog is the place you come for all your pop culture news. Otherwise, I’m going to assume everybody has already seen the new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Here’s your chance to watch it again! Or your excuse to do so!
I dug it. Definitely like Luke’s line of thinking. Good direction to take a Star Wars movie. And I wanna make that shot of Rey practicing with her lightsaber on the mountain said into my desktop wallpaper.
Star Wars: Episode IX is totally happening in December, so we might as well all get hyped now.

Logan Should Have Ended With a Musical Number
I wasn’t totally sold on this How It Should Have Ended for Logan, but they won me over in the end.
I didn’t realize what they were singing at first, but when they went into the huge ensemble Les Mis-style musical number, they had me. Then Deadpool in a DeLorean was neat. Though I continue to insist that the Batman/Superman cafe callbacks are not nearly as funny as these guys think they are. I’m here for the alternate endings, not the in jokes.
Just sayin’…
