Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/14/19

Welcome to another weekend of solid, enjoyable comic book reviews! And it’s another week of my favorites! Like Wonder Twins! And the exciting new Far Sector! Plus Go Go Power Rangers! The three-issue Dawn of X cavalcade continues, but not for me…

Comic Book of the Week goes to the latest issue of Jane Foster: Valkyrie, which assembles possibly the most original superhero team in years!

Doctor Team 01

A superhero team for the ages!

Meanwhile, I’ve dropped Fallen Angels because I just don’t care anymore. I don’t care about the characters, I don’t care about the story, I don’t care about the writing or the art. It’s the first on the Dawn of X chopping block! Though it’s also going to be the first to take a break in a couple of months, with a new Hellions coming out next spring. I’ll have to check that one out!

Comic Reviews: Far Sector #2, Go Go Power Rangers #26, New Mutants #3, Valkyrie #6, Wonder Twins #10 and X-Force #3.

Bring on That Sweet, Sweet Jumanji!

I loved Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle! I was a big fan of the original film when I was a kid, but didn’t expect much out of this random sequel. But man, it was a great movie! Fun jungle action flick with a really emotional ending. I got choked up! I still do, rewatching that ending on YouTube.

So sure, here’s a How It Should Have Ended for that film!

I’m going to see the new one, Jumanji: The Next Level, tonight. I have high hopes. We’ll see how it goes! It’s best to stay positive and optimistic about this sort of thing.

Kudos to the HISHE people for an actual alternate ending gag, by the way.

6 Things I Want to See in the Black Widow Movie

The first trailer for the upcoming Black Widow movie came out of nowhere last week, and I liked it! Of course, I’m a huge Marvel fanboy, so I’m probably going to like everything they produce from now until the heat death of the universe. So you best believe I’m excited for Black Widow!

Black Widow See List 01

That’s some good movie poster

But what’s going to be in the movie? We know it takes place prior to Avengers: Infinity War. We know Taskmaster is the villain, and that Natasha will team up with the other comic book Black Widow, as well as Red Guardian. And we know it’s going to be heavy on the crazy action and adventure. There’s probably also going to be some trouble with the Red Room.

Still, there’s a lot of movie left wide open for cameos, Easter Eggs, callbacks and more. So join me after the jump for the little things I’d like to see in the Black Widow movie! And feel free to share some of your own ideas in the comments!

Free Guy Looks Pretty Cool

We’ve got both the new Jumanji and Star Wars films coming up, so there’s been a whole mess of new trailers for big projects coming down the pipe. I love trailers, so I’m pretty thrilled! And you all get to see them shared by me!

Like this trailer for Free Guy, the new Ryan Reynolds movie in which he’s an NPC in a video game who realizes what’s going on.

Looks pretty good! I trust Ryan Reynolds movies these days, even if I can never trust screenwriters to truly understand how video games work. This game looks like a Grand Theft Auto Online type of game, so hopefully they can’t mess that up.

Free Guy comes out on July 3.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is Real and Happening!

I liked the recent, all-women Ghostbusters reboot. I understand a lot of criticism it received, but I was entertained while watching in the theater. But Hollywood and fandom are fickle, and now comes a proper Ghostbusters sequel, pegged as the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3!

But numbers aren’t chic anymore. Modern sequels are all about the subtitle! Behold, Ghostbusters: Afterlife!

I like it! I like the grounded, serious vibe. I like the mystery and the reverence. I like Paul Rudd. Is he going to become a Ghostbuster? That would be sweet. I’m a little surprised we didn’t get any original character cameos. Are those going to be smaller roles? Maybe they want the movie to stand on its right now right.

It definitely stands on its own in this first trailer! I liked it a lot.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes out on July 10.
