I’m Less Interested in Elio Now

The next Pixar movie is Elio, about a boy who gets wrapped up in some alien craziness. I liked the look of the first teaser trailer. It seemed like some random boy was plucked off Earth, mistakenly believed to be Earth’s president, or something. But nah, that’s apparently not the plot at all.

Now it’s a movie about an awkward kid finding his place in the universe. Which is fine. That’s a good lesson for kids. And that eyepatch thing is very representative of kids who had to get that eyepatch thing. But this trailer really loses me. He’s a kid who wants to get abducted by aliens, that’s his quirk. And when he does, he makes an alien best friend and they gotta deal with being dorks together, and then deal with an overbearing father. It all feels very pat.

Anyway, Pixar can do whatever they like. Elio comes to theaters on June 20.

Everybody’s Gonna Have to Resubscribe to Netflix for Happy Gilmore 2

It’s happening. It’s really happening. They’ve made Happy Gilmore 2 and it’s coming to Netflix this summer. Jeez louise. Who ever could have guessed the world would come to this?

First things first, I’m a big Adam Sandler apologist. The dude is great. He’s always been great. And if his idea of making movies is to get studios to give him a ton of money so that he and his friends can goof off on vacation, who am I stop him or complain? That’s a dream job for probably everybody on Earth, and he’s making it happen, and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Second, you’re darn right I’m going to watch Happy Gilmore 2. I can’t wait to watch it! I don’t know what it’s going to be like. I don’t know if it will be an obvious crap film or just mildly OK. I’m gonna watch it and I’m gonna giggle at the Easter Eggs and callbacks and then I’ll go to bed and the next day will occur. I’ll probably have to go to work that next day. Life will move on.

Happy Gilmore 2 is coming to Netflix on July 25.

Hench-Sized Comic Reviews – 3/15/25

I’m finally back with more robust comic reviews! Just been busy, is all. In fact, if you’re reading this, I’m once again out of town! Such is life, I suppose. At least we’ve got comics like Green Lantern Corps and Void Rivals to enjoy.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Superman #5 because I’m a sucker for these comics! Jason Aaron will also be guesting in Scott Snyder’s Comics Writing Class this week, so I’m very excited about that!

It’s never enough

Meanwhile, I beat Dragon Age: Veilguard and very much enjoyed the game! Solid 8/10 for me. Great character creator, solid and enjoyable gameplay, and very good characters/story/ending. All around solid RPG. I’ll finally be picking up Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 this week and can’t wait to dive into that!

Comic Reviews: Absolute Superman #5, Green Lantern Corps #2 and Void Rivals #17.

Super Trailer Thursday!

For some reason, a bunch of interesting trailers have been coming out this week. And I love trailers. And they’re easy to share when I’m otherwise busy. So how about we enjoy a couple of trailers for shows and movies I have a vague interest in?

Like the live action trailer for Lilo & Stitch!

I enjoy the animated Lilo & Stitch as much as the next person. And I don’t care for the Disney live action movies as much as the next person. Heck, the live action Snow White comes out, like, next week. Does anybody care beyond the haters? Still, who doesn’t enjoy Stitch shenanigans?

Lilo & Stitch live action comes to theaters on May 23.

Next up is an animated show on Netflix that I just learned about: Devil May Cry! I never played the games, but I’ve enjoyed the animated Castlevania shows, so maybe this will also be good?

It looks pretty good. I’m all in favor of turning classic video games into cool new anime shows. I even did a List of Six suggesting some other shows! And maybe this will be a faithful adaptation and I’ll actually find out what Devil May Cry is about. Won’t that be something?

Devil May Cry, the series, comes to Netflix on April 3.

Lastly, there’s going to be a new season of Poker Face, the mystery show starring Natasha Lyonne and created by Rian Johnson.

For some reason, I didn’t care for the first season of Poker Face. It did nothing for me! Even though I enjoy Lyonne’s work and am a huge fan of Knives Out and Glass Onion. Just something about Poker Face didn’t click for me. So I don’t even know if I’ll watch this. But some of you might, so I thought I’d share.

Poker Face season 2 comes to Peacock on May 8.

Another Look at The Last of Us Season 2

The second season of The Last of Us is only one month away! April is gonna be a great month for television, between TLOU and Andor. I can’t wait! But I have to wait. And while waiting, I can watch this new trailer we got recently, and share it with all of you.

Looks good to me! I loved The Last of Us 2 the game, and I can’t wait for that drama to make its way into the show. I have full faith that the showrunners will do right by all that good character stuff, and we get hints of it in this trailer. So great trailer, I say!

The second season of The Last of Us comes to MAX on April 13.
