Ugly John Lives!
I love when this happens. I love the Krakoa Era of the X-Men! Everything and everyone is fair game! Including the gloriously underserved Ugly John. He’s alive and well on Krakoa now, according to the latest issue of X-Men. Check out this nifty letter that Forge sent to Cyclops that namedrops our three-faced boy!
This makes me very happy.
So who is Ugly John and why do I care so much? I’m so glad you asked!
Ugly John is a mutant created by Grant Morrison at the very start of their New X-Men comic all those decades ago. Ugly John was the first taste of the madness that Morrison had in store for the X-Men. Just a dude with three faces.
Morrison then promptly killed Ugly John. He never lasted more than an issue or two. Cyclops and Wolverine went all the way out there to save him, but Ugly John got killed by Morrison’s great villain plans. It happens. But the character always stuck with me because I love superheroes who are also just regular dudes.
Ugly John didn’t have laser eyes or weather control. He was just a dude with three faces, but he was as much a mutant as anybody. And then he was killed, never to be heard from again.
Until now! That letter from Forge in X-Men #8 confirms that Ugly John is alive and well on Krakoa! How nice!
And I care because Ugly John was on my List of Six of obscure mutants I wanted to see return on Krakoa. How cool is that? Did somebody see my list once upon a time? Or are there other people out there who remember Ugly John?
What’s especially cool is that 4 out of the 6 characters I listed have shown up somewhere in the Krakoa Era. Which is awesome! Now we just have to wait for Lacuna and Postman.
Also, quick note, that letter from Forge also seems to doubly confirm the existence of Soft Serve, the X-Man who poops ice cream from her butt. This was one heck of an Easter Egg-filled letter. This is all rather pleasing to me.

6 Thoughts on The Book of Boba Fett (Review)
For the longest time, the Boba Fett movie seemed impossible. Star Wars was back, new movies were being made, and a Boba Fett feature film was always on the table. He’s one of the coolest, most instantly iconic characters in the history of science fiction. The world was clamoring for more of this dastardly, hot shot character. But a movie never happened. And instead we got seven episodes of a TV show: The Book of Boba Fett. It has come and gone and, unfortunately, did not live up to those decades of hype.
TV Show Rating: 6/10 – Pretty Good
I love The Mandalorian as much as the next person. It seemed like a silly Boba Fett knock-off at first, but then The Mandalorian came out swinging and has become a cultural touchstone the world over. And something about its success convinced those in power that the knock-off could bring back the original, and now Boba Fett has been re-established and is ready for action. Too bad that action turned out to be pretty perfunctory, with a lot more walking and standing around than badass bounty hunting. Still, at long last, we had our Boba Fett media project, and that in itself is pretty cool.
Join me after the jump for my review and thoughts on the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. Expect FULL SPOILERS for all the episodes, and what this means for The Mandalorian going forward.

Last week’s issue of New Mutants did something truly spectacular, something long overdue and something even the characters recognized as necessary. They gave No-Girl her body back.
This is a really awesome development and is exactly the sort of change I want to see being made in the Krakoa Era. X-Men comics cannot be business as usual anymore. A lot of them still are, but I am so glad Marvel and the creative team behind New Mutants have actually fixed some fixable problems. I haven’t been reading this comic as much as I used to, mostly just following it’s developments from a distance. And this is one I want to celebrate as being the right thing to do.
Join me after the jump for a full breakdown of what has happened and why it’s awesome.

The Super Bowl came and went last night and my hopes and dreams were crushed once again. I am a lifelong Cincinnati Bengals fan, and they have never won a Super Bowl. They came within one minute of winning last night, and it was dashed. Such is life. Thankfully, I don’t care about football, and only really care about new movie and TV show trailers!
First up is a brand new, totally bonkers trailer for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness! Holy cow, this trailer is beyond crazy.
I don’t even want to begin to speculate what we’re going to see. There’s a ton of spoilers and leaks out there on the web, and I’m trying my best to avoid them. But just from that trailer around, this movie looks hella bonkers and I am 100% here for it! Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness comes to theaters on May 6.
Next up is a new, short spot for the Moon Knight TV show.
This still looks good. I’ve never been a big Moon Knight fan, so I’m not as hyped or pumped as other viewers. But I’m definitely going to watch to see what’s in store. The Moon Knight costume is slowly winning me over, step by step. Moon Knight arrives on TV on March 30.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is coming and I am hesitantly excited about this one.
I didn’t care for the first movie. It was more just generic live action cartoon cliche than it was a Sonic movie. But the sequel features both Tails and Knuckles. I have been a fan of Knuckles since I was a wee boy, and he appears to be incredibly awesome in this film. Like, it’s blowing my mind that this badass Knuckles the Echidna is showing up in a movie and everybody is excited. So we’ll see! Sonic the Hedgehog 2 arrives in theaters on April 8.
Then we’ve got Nope, the new horror film by Jordan Peele.
Looks freaky and scary, so it should be a good time. I guess it’s about an alien invasion? Nope stands for “Not of Planet Earth” maybe? Either way, should be a good time at the movies! Nope arrives on July 22.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/12/22
What a week, people! This might be one of the most joyous weeks in comics I’ve ever had. We got a new Multiple Man Marvel Unlimited comic this week, Strong Guy gets in on the action in Secret X-Men and then we’ve got the mother of all team-ups!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY for bringing together some of my favorite obscure characters for a delightful comic! I’m so glad my obscure favorites aren’t being needlessly murdered for once! Let’s here it for Hornet and the Slingers!
Meanwhile, I’ll have a review up next week on the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. Pretty underwhelming, if you ask me, but otherwise fine. Then the week after, I want to do a review of the first season of Peacemaker, because that show is amazing! Why couldn’t James Gunn have made a Boba Fett TV show? Oh well. In other news, I’m enjoying Pokemon Legends: Arceus just fine.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY, Batgirls #3, Mighty Morphin #16, Robins #5 and Secret X-Men #1.
