Hench-Sized Comic Reviews – 9/6/25
Happy Birthday to me! Enough years have passed that my birthday once again falls on a Saturday, so I get to share some comic reviews for my birthday! And what a darn good week for comics, like Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman! Honestly, I’ve been reading way more DC books than Marvel these days…
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #1 because it’s a very strong start for the Matt Fraction run of the Caped Crusader.
Meanwhile, not doing anything special for my birthday because that’s what happens when you’re in your 40s. I bought myself a new computer, and that’s running nicely. And I splurged on some graphic novels and action figures. So feeling pretty good. And I’ll be sharing some comic book news soon enough!
Comic Reviews: Absolute Superman #11, Absolute Wonder Woman #11, Amazing Spider-Man #11, Batman #1 and Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League #2.

I will probably always and forever be unapologetically Marvel. It’s in my blood. It’s in my soul. I don’t think they went downhill after Endgame and I’ve enjoyed everything they’ve put out (except for most of Secret Invasion). Eyes of Wakanda was great! And now here comes Marvel Zombies!
Looks like a fun, crazy action show in which a couple of Marvel heroes are thrown up against a zombie apocalypse and the zombie Avengers. It’s spun off a What If episode of the same premise, and that’s perfectly fine by me.
Marvel Zombies is coming to Disney+ on Sept. 24. I believe all four episodes will drop at once.

Keep an Eye on Shelby Oaks
In the past, I was a mediocre fan of YouTube movie critic Chris Stuckmann. Dude was an alright watch. Then he got to make his dream a reality and Kickstarted his own movie! I’ve used Kickstarter in the past to bring my own comics to life, and I chipped in a bit for the Kickstarter for Shelby Oaks. Since then, the movie has been picked up by a real distributor and real Hollywood people have stepped up to help make the movie happen.
We also now have a trailer!
Looks pretty good. I’m not a horror fan by trade, but I’d probably go and watch this if it was playing in one of my local theaters. I think I get access to a digital download due to my Kickstarter backing, but I haven’t really been paying attention to those updates and have completely forgotten what level I pledged at. I just wanted to help a creative dude from the internet achieve his dream – just like me!
Anyway, just wanted to share that trailer. You can probably learn more about Stuckmann’s journey on his YouTube page. And Shelby Oaks comes to theaters on Oct. 3!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/30/25
Not a lot going on this week and I didn’t post much. I really need to turn that around. But I tweaked my back yesterday and the pain really stopped any sort of anything from happening. Still read some good comics though, like Superman and Void Rivals.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Martian Manhunter for a wild and crazy first arc finale!
Meanwhile, I binged both the new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Long Story Short this past week. Sunny is always a hoot, and Long Story Short — from the creators of my favorite show, BoJack Horseman — lived up to all the hype and hope I had for it! Such a wonderful show! I cannot wait for future seasons!
Comic Reviews: Absolute Martian Manhunter #6, Superman #29, Void Rivals #22 and X-Men #21.

I’m a big Dropout fan. I’ve been a subscriber since launch, having loved College Humor before then. And with it still being a news free August, I’m sharing the trailer for the next new Dropout show: Crowd Control! Based on a recent episode of Game Changer, it’s a stand up comedy/crowdwork show!
I enjoyed the Game Changer episode as much as the next person, and I’m confident they’ll pull this off as its own show. Personally, I thought it might be difficult to source all those audience members, but the trailer seems to think they’ve done a good job. Perhaps it’s on me for underestimating how many people exist in the world.
Crowd Control is coming to Dropout on Sept. 8!
