Secret Invasion is Looking Cool as Hell
The next Marvel Disney+ TV show is Secret Invasion, a show where Nick Fury returns to stop a secret, shapeshifting Skrull invasion. It worked in the comics, and it looks like it’s going to work on TV. This new, full-sized trailer shows off a really cool, really dark world of spies and aliens and one badass Nick Fury.
I really like the look of this show. I know, shocking, right? I’ve loved every Marvel show so far, and I’m going to love this one too. The action looks good. The intrigue looks good. The cast is stacked. The only quibble I might have is that this trailer is focused so much on Nick Fury and doesn’t even tease the invasion itself. That’s an interesting choice, but probably an obvious one.
Secret Invasion is coming to Disney+ on June 21!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/1/23
Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone! I love this holiday and all the internet hijinks that ensure. I would have done something with my blog, but I’m out of town this weekend, so I didn’t have time. That’s also why my review list is so short this week. Just a pair of comics.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Strange Academy: Finals #5 for a truly wonderful cliffhanger.
Meanwhile, I’ve finally started playing Gotham Knights and I can immediately see what everybody disliked about this game. The fighting just isn’t fun. It’s a chore. But there was no way I was going to pass up Robin: The Video Game, so I’m going to see this one through to the end. I also finished off the second season of Carnival Row and I was quite pleased with both the season and the ending. I really liked Carnival Row, and it’s a shame the show didn’t take off.
Comic Reviews: Invincible Iron Man #4 and Strange Academy: Finals #5.

I love Wes Anderson movies. Maybe some people are sick of his style of filmmaking, but not me! Keep these cute, quirky, funny movies coming. And Asteroid City — or at least the trailer for Asteroid City — is the most Wes Anderson thing ever.
Looks wonderful! Looks quirky! Great cast, funny deadpan humor, and now some sci fi. Sounds perfect to me. I love the dialogue, I love the premise, I love the sense of humor; I’m going to just keep loving these Wes Anderson films. The only problem is that they rarely play in my town. I have to hope the local indie theater gets the film, because the main theater doesn’t get his movies until months later. Then I have to make a field trip to the city an hour away to see these films. That’s never fun.
Asteroid City comes to theaters on June 16.

6 Characters Who Are Walls
Walls. We all have them. They serve a very important function in our lives. Sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re bad. They’re walls. They’re totally a thing. And on this auspicious day, I’ve decided to do an internet superhero listicle about characters whose power is to be a wall, make a wall or just be wall-like.
You might be asking yourself, where did this even come from? The idea was inspired by two characters on this list who I randomly happened to notice in my life in close proximity. They’re not A-list characters. They’re not about to headline the next Marvel Disney+ show. But they exist, they are documented, and it sent me on a journey to find others like them in the annals of comic book history. Maybe next time I’ll do a list of characters who are floors or characters who are chairs.
Join me after the jump for, quite possibly, the silliest comic book character list I’ve ever done. Six characters who are walls.
Read the rest of this entryPixar’s Elemental Looks Pretty Bland
The next Pixar film is called Elemental, and we got the first full trailer today. It clearly looks like a movie where someone said “what if elements had feelings”. And then they whipped together a pretty bland and basic script about love interests from different families getting together, despite being told that their kinds don’t mix.
Elemental looks really, really bland. The two main characters look bland. Their families look bland. Their conflict looks bland. Their world looks bland. Why make a joke about chain link fences not mattering to elements? Why not make a world so amazing that it doesn’t need chain link fences? Why not do something that actually involves elements instead of just using them as unnecessary metaphors?
I dunno. I’m not a Pixar filmmaker. But Elemental is what they’re sending to theaters on June 16.
