Our First Teaser for The Venture Bros. Finale Movie

I’m a big fan of The Venture Bros. At least I was, back when it was a show. It was really good, but I was also frequently annoyed at how long it took for those new, short seasons to come out. They were good, but never meaty enough to justify the wait. The Venture Bros. was one of those shows that, instead of delivering big, cool story things, just kept adding more small story things.

Then it got cancelled. But the movie is coming later this year! Here’s a sneak peek.

Looks fine to me! And I can even remember how the last season ended, so this short scene makes sense. One hopes this movie finally does the thing and puts this universe to rest. Though it probably won’t. Not settling all the big, ongoing stories is probably the point at this point. And that’s fine. Just getting this movie will be enough of a hoot.

The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is coming out sometime later this year.

6 Things I Want to See in a New Rey Skywalker Movie

A week or so ago, the good people at Star Wars Celebration announced a slew of new film and TV projects, including the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker. Many of us had written off the sequel movies and their era as dead in the water. They were not well liked by the fans, and we’ve only really heard some bad stories coming out of production. So this was a surprise, to be a sure, but a welcome one.

First yellow, now orange. What’s next? Puce?!

I am not one of those bitter fans who hate all things Star Wars these days. I love all things Star Wars. I’m enjoying the third season of The Mandalorian and see nothing wrong with it. I don’t have very high opinions of the sequel films, but I liked the characters, and I’ll watch any future Star Wars movie that comes to theaters. And I’d be perfectly happy to see another movie set beyond those films, to keep the story going. Rey is the perfect character to follow. I don’t have any problems with the character whatsoever — even though I wish she’d remained a nobody, and not Palpatine’s granddaughter. That was dumb.

Join me after the jump for six things I want to see in a new Rey movie set after the sequel trilogy. And feel free to share some of your own ideas in the comments below!

The Penguin TV Show At Least Looks Good

This in-production teaser trailer for The Penguin TV show arrived last week, when HBO Max announced the change to their subscription service. I don’t really know what to make of this show yet, but it looks good, at the very least.

Colin Farell obviously disappears into the makeup, as we all know. And the character seems really cool. But what’s this show gonna be? Just the Penguin being a dangerous gangster guy? He doesn’t have a family, and I doubt they’re going to put him in therapy like an obvious Sopranos rip-off. So what’s this show gonna feature? And didn’t we just get a show starring the Penguin? Wasn’t that what Gotham was about? It was half about the Penguin, surely, right?

Anyway, I still think they should have made a Gotham Central TV show. That would have been killer!

Tell It Animated is Doing Top 10 Lists Now

Top Ten is no Top Six, I just wanna say. But I’ll share anything the genius animator over at Tell It Animated posts online. The dude’s work is sublime and I’m happy to share. They’re fun videos with which to start a good Monday. For this first Top 10 list, he’s done killer dolls.

Fun video, as always. Though I do find it kind of funny that, in order to fit his style, the animator introduces the dolls looking one way and then alters them to match their actual movie appearance. Like, so he just comes up with a generic-looking doll design for each of them and then alters them? That seems like a lot of extra steps. And I suppose he needs something to animate, otherwise he’d just be listing killer dolls.

A Top Ten animated list I’d like to see would be…coolest Transformers? Funniest G.I. Joes?

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/15/23

Comics come and comics go, and this week they came. Got a bunch on my list to read, and a bunch on my list to review. And now you can scroll down and read them all! We’ve got the kick off the Captain America: Cold War, we’ve got some Fantastic Four, and another issue of the X-Men!

Comic Book of the Week goes to the new Guardians of the Galaxy #1 because, at the very least, the Guardians as cowboys is fun.

I bet it smells bad on the inside

Meanwhile, I’m still grinding my way through Gotham Knights. I can definitely play that game for long binges and enjoy myself, but so much of the gameplay is frustrating. I think I’m mostly in it to find the perfect transmog Robin costume, even though Batgirl is probably the best character to play. Also, I don’t care what the haters are saying, I’m enjoying the third seasons of both The Mandalorian and Ted Lasso.

Comic Reviews: Captain America: Cold War Alpha, Fantastic Four #6, Guardians of the Galaxy #1, and X-Men #21.
