I may as well say that my New Year’s resolutions for 2014 are to lose weight and save money, but I’ve kind of been making those same resolutions for the past 30 years, and they haven’t come true yet! So how about we veer wildly off course and talk about something much more fun: pop culture!
No, I’m not resolving to play fewer video games or watch less TV. Don’t be crazy.
Instead, I’ve whipped up a list of 6 pop culture things I want to see in 2014. We already know what movies, TV shows and more are coming out, and I resolve to drown myself in all of them. But we don’t know how good or bad they’re going to be, or what surprises might be in store. So let’s get our hopeful wishing hats on, and predict the 6 pop culture resolutions we want to see in 2014!
And yes, I realize these are more like ‘wishes’ than ‘resolutions’, but New Year is all about the resolutions. Cut me some slack, I had a cold this week. Join me after the jump!
Whenever someone asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year, I told them I wanted LEGOs. And yes, I did turn 30 this year. Thank you.
The problem with being 30 is that I already buy anything I need. That means Christmas gifts should be things I want. And with DVDs going out of style, and my tastes in clothing, music and books relatively unknown, I asked for LEGO sets, because deep down, I’m still a little boy.
My dad said he didn’t want to get me LEGOs until I had kids of my own who could play with them. I can’t say he’s wrong. But have you seen the new Jabba’s Palace LEGO sets!? They are sweet!

I’m a pretty big action figure guy. I’ve been that way since I was a kid. They’re one of the purest forms of superhero memorabilia, and I just love collecting them and putting them on display on my Geek Wall…ladies. Anyway, Comic-Con is usually a great place for companies to show off their latest action figures. Comic-Con International was no exception, and I spotted some awesome action figures I’ll want to grab when they go on sale!
Such as Songbird, who recently topped my list for characters who should be Avengers.
Unfortunately, she’s wearing her crummy new costume, where she looks like some shrill punk rocker. Ugh. Still, Songbird action figure!
Then there’s Boomerang, the star of the new Superior Foes of Spider-Man comic, which I loved.
Fortunately, he’s wearing his awesome new costume! So I’m excited about that. I’ve got to get Boomerang. He’s a must.
And here’s Batroc ze Leaper! He’s going to be appearing in the upcoming Captain America sequel.
Though he probably won’t look quite so ridiculous.
You can check out the full list of new Marvel action figures by clicking here. Sadly, no Multiple Man, yet again.
I saw G.I. Joe: Retaliation this past weekend, and I rather enjoyed it. The film had a lot of great action, a good story and some fantastic characters. And that’s half the fun of G.I. Joe, right? Awesome characters? Or maybe they’re the other half of the battle…Anyway, if you were a kid in the 80s like me, then G.I. Joe was one of the coolest cartoon/toy combinations available. There were dozens, if not hundreds, of unique, individual characters, each with their own awesome style. Not to mention amazing vehicles, playsets and more. Does anybody else remember the Rolling Thunder?
The Joes have a deep bench of characters, which might explain why the cast in G.I. Joe: Retaliation is almost completely different than in the first Joe movie (with the exception of Snake Eyes, of course, who we all know is the best G.I. Joe). Or maybe they just wanted to distance themselves from The Rise of Cobra. Either way, we can almost guarantee there’s going to be a threequel, which means more Joes! Here are the six classic G.I. Joes that I think would be great for the big screen.
