6 Thoughts on Captain Marvel
The first Marvel superhero movie with a female lead is here and it’s quite awesome! Let us hope Marvel does not hesitate to make more. Captain Marvel has walked a rocky road in the comics, but it looks like she’ll have a nice, clean, straightforward role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
If I had to rank Captain Marvel, I think I’d put it in the upper middle tier of MCU films. It’s not top tier, like Black Panther or the Avengers films, but it’s damn good. I loved pretty much everything about this film. I look forward to seeing Carol show up in Avengers: Endgame, and I look forward to sequels. Simple as that. I’m a Marvel movie fanboy and I do not apologize for that fact!

Howdy Ho, Hencharinos? How goes it? What’d you think of Captain Marvel? I loved it! Another hit Marvel movie! Maybe not in the absolute top tier at Marvel, but they’ve set the bar for themselves so high. Captain Marvel is definitely another winner! I’ll have my review up on Wednesday!
Not many comic reviews this week, I’m afraid. I was busy at work this week and just didn’t have time. But we’ve still got some good ones, like Champions and Young Justice! Comic Book of the Week goes, once again, to Grant Morrison’s The Green Lantern. Definitely loving this comic!
Meanwhile, I’m maybe kinda sorta decided to give up on Uncanny X-Men. At least when it comes to reviews. I just don’t enjoy the comic. But it’s also the first time Multiple Man has ever been an X-Man…even if it’s not the real Multiple Man, and is written by a guy who I disagree with on how to write/use Multiple Man. So I dunno. I’ll probably keep reading, and maybe I’ll pop in and out for reviews. Of the new issue, I just don’t care for how it’s written and the direction its taking.
Also meanwhile, for anyone interested, I’m still following along with Tom King’s Batman. It’s gotta really metaphysical lately, and I don’t think I can give single issue reviews their justice. But I’ll be back to that series before too long! The new issue is a really good one!
Comic Reviews: Champions #3, The Green Lantern #5 and Young Justice #3.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/2/19
We’re only one week from the Captain Marvel movie! Less than a week, actually. How cool is that? The Marvel Movie Season is about to re-begin!
Pretty standard and all around quality-ish pile of comics this week. There’s good comics like Fantastic Four and Captain America, along with sourish comics like Heroes in Crisis. We’re going to say goodbye soon to West Coast Avengers, and I’m finally digging one of Brian Michael Bendis’ Superman comics. In fact, Comic Book of the Week goes to the new Action Comics for a real humdinger of a cliffhanger!
Meanwhile, the one Age of X-Man book I was looking forward to finally came out, X-Tremists. It’s fine. First issue doesn’t do much more than set up the premise, with some solid character banter. But there’s nothing too deep, character-wise, which is a shame. The issue just continues to build on what I consider an already very flimsy frame for Age of X-Man. But Leah Williams is a writer I want to keep my eyes on, so I’m gonna stick with this and hope she pulls out something great by the end.
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1008, Captain America #8, Fantastic Four #7, Heroes in Crisis #6 and West Coast Avengers #8.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/23/19
Last week had a bunch of comics; this week, not so many. Such is the ups and downs of buying and reviewing comic books! I love it, you love it, and we can’t live without it.
Like I said, not many comics this week, especially since I’ve dropped both Aquaman and Catwoman from DC Comics. Catwoman was good, Aquaman was not, but neither of them held my attention all that well. Marvel put out some comics this week, with Comic Book of the Week easily going to Unstoppable Wasp again for a great follow-up issue.
Meanwhile, I watched Umbrella Academy on Netflix and it was really good. I highly recommend it. I never read the comic, so I can’t compare them. But it was a fun TV show.
Comic Reviews: Guardians of the Galaxy #2, Uncanny X-Men #12 and Unstoppable Wasp #5.
6 Thoughts on the Second Season of Runaways
We are overloaded with comic book TV shows these days and I love it! Not only did I just finish watching the first season of Titans and now the second season of Runaways, but I just started the first season of Umbrella Academy! What a wild and wonderful superhero world we live in. It’s even better when the show is actually good, like the new season of Runaways!
TV Show Rating: 9/10 – Great.
I enjoyed the first season of the show well enough. I was disappointed that the kids didn’t actually run away until the very end of the last episode of the season. I think a lot of people were bothered by that. Well, whoever is running the show took that message to heart and delivered a far more involved, far faster second season that doesn’t drag everything out for the sake of dragging it out. That was very much appreciated! And now this show is a much different beast than the original comic, while still maintaining that comic book/Runaways appeal!
Also, the current Runaways comic by Rainbow Rowell and Kris Anka is absolutely fabulous! It was my favorite comic last year and everyone should be reading if they enjoy this squad.
Expect FULL SPOILERS for season 2!
