6 Thoughts on Thor: Love and Thunder (Review)

I loved Thor: Ragnarok. It was one of the best, funniest movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I love the other works of director Taika Waititi. The dude is very creative and does good work. So I, like most people, was super excited for his direct follow-up, Thor: Love and Thunder. And I really like the movie, I think Thor: Love and Thunder is good. But all of the pieces were there where it could have been great.

Movie Rating: 7/10 – Good

I think my voice is just one in a multitude chorus of people having the same response to Love and Thunder. It’s not as good as Ragnarok. It’s still good and entertaining. But man, it’s nowhere near as amazing as we all hoped it would be. That’s a shame. But it’s not the end of the world. There are still a lot of great aspects about the movie to enjoy. And I would definitely recommend anybody to give it a watch. This is not the death knell of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no matter what the haters say.

Celebrating the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

I’m going to go see Thor: Love and Thunder in a couple of hours, so how about I post a bunch of those internet parody videos for the last Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Seems like the sort of day to celebrate and enjoy the MCU!

Like how about the Honest Trailer?

And we can’t forget the How It Should Have Ended.

These things are everywhere! Like even the Pitch Meeting!

It’s a whole cottage industry to make silly YouTube videos about popular movies. In a couple of weeks/months, we’ll have the videos for Thor: Love and Thunder! I hope it’s good! I’ll have my full review/thoughts on the film next Wednesday!

The 6 Characters on My MCU Thunderbolts

Word came down from Hollywood on high last week that Marvel was working on a Thunderbolts movie. It’s been rumored for years, and it’s too hot a property to dismiss, so I’m all in favor of this happening. There are enough characters and villains from throughout the past decade of the MCU to put a really good anti-hero/anti-villain team together.

The 90s coming at you!

The biggest question is: what kind of movie is this? In the comics, the Thunderbolts were a team of villains posing as heroes, who slowly came around to the idea that being a superhero was awesome. It was one of the biggest twists in comic book history. But with acting announcements and the way Hollywood works, it would be nearly impossible to pull off a similar twist. So I think an MCU Thunderbolts should be the equivalent of the Dark Avengers. Some either villainous or anti-hero characters brought together to fill the void left by the actual Avengers, perhaps by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. And maybe they’re used for nefarious purposes, but slowly come around to the idea that they should do more good.

Join me after the jump for my roster for an MCU Thunderbolts.

The Spot is the Villain in Across the Spider-Verse!

I am a huge fan of the super villain The Spot from Spider-Man’s Rogues Gallery. From his cool powers to his underdog nature to his awesome episode of the Spider-Man cartoon from the 1990s, I just did The Spot. He never gets much respect, but hot damn, he’s just been revealed as the villain in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming out later this year!

Look at him, looking all funky!

All we have so far is this promotional image, which looks great. The Spot is going to be voiced by Jason Schwartzman, so that’s cool too. And we learned of a couple other new characters who are going to show up. I’m not going to spoil those, because spoiling The Spot is good enough for me.

Holy cow, you guys, this may lead to me getting to own a really awesome Spot action figure! Or a Spot LEGO set! Across the Spider-Verse is going to be huge and now it’s The Spot’s time to shine!

A Metric Ton of Upcoming Movie Trailers!

Between my being on vacation last week and a bunch of big movies coming out, we’ve been getting a metric ton of new movie trailers recently. I love movie trailers and I love sharing them. I’ve already shared a couple this week with stand alone posts, because I thought they deserved it. But these are the ones I’ve been sitting on, and they’re taking up too much room on my bookmarks bar. So let’s just get them out of the way!

I will post them in descending order from my interest.

First up is a new trailer for NOPE, Jordan Peele’s new horror movie. Be warned, this might have more spoilers than you might normally like in such a trailer.

I’m definitely excited for this one. Jordan Peele is making some great movies, and this one looks especially spooky and wild. I’m always down for a new take on mysterious alien appearances in the sky. NOPE comes to theaters on July 22.

Next up is Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe. This one should be great!

I was slow to get into the Beavis and Butt-Head cartoon back in the day because I definitely wasn’t an MTV teenager. But I loved what I saw, and especially loved their original Do America movie. So with Mike Judge coming back and the duo not being overdone in recent years, I think Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe could be really neat! It’s coming to Paramount+ on June 23.

How about a new movie in the Predator series? How about Prey?

I like the look of this one as well! I’m no big Predator fanatic, and most of the ones I’ve seen have been terrible. But I’m totally down for the idea of a back-to-basics Predator movie where those alien hunters take on some Comanche Native Americans. That idea has a ton of potential. And we’ll see how much potential when Prey comes to Hulu on Aug. 5.

Next we have a new trailer for Bullet Train, the really cool looking Brad Pitt movie coming out this summer. This trailer also reveals a lot more about the plot and characters, so be careful if you’re trying to avoid all spoilers.

Bullet Train looks like somebody watched Knives Out and decided to make their own version, and I am 100% in favor of that. Knives Out was a masterpiece, and more movies could use that type of energy. Brad Pitt going nuts on a train full of charismatic assassins sounds perfect to me. I’m definitely excited for this one. Bullet Train comes to theaters on Aug. 5!

Let’s keep it going! Next up is Strange World, the teaser for the next Disney animated movie.

I think Disney Animation is knocking it out of the park these days. I think I like their movies more than Pixar. So I’m definitely going to get my hopes up for Strange World. The movie definitely shows us a pretty strange world. We’ll find out what they do with it in theaters on Nov. 23.

Oof. I’m already getting tired. So let’s just rush through the last couple of trailers I still have. We’ve got Three Thousand Years of Longing, Beast and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part 1.

All look pretty cool. I’m especially excited to see Three Thousand Years of Longing, the new George Miller film that will be his follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road. Can we deliver that same insane magic? I bet he can!

So yeah, it’s safe to say that movies are back and we’ve got so many to look forward to! More of these trailers are original properties than not. And none are Marvel movies. So it’s also safe to say that non-superhero movies are allowed to exist!
