Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/25/21
Merry Christmas, everybody! It’s that magical sort of year when Christmas falls on a Saturday, coinciding with my comic book reviews! If you’re reading this on Christmas Day, more power to you! We had some nice comics this week, though everything is overshadowed by the stellar artistic achievements of the new issue of Nightwing.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #87 for an artistic achievement that will hopefully go down in legend.
Meanwhile, I loved the Hawkeye finale and will have a review up one of these days. It was quite joyous, and accomplished everything I could have wanted. Hawkeye is probably my second favorite of the Marvel shows right now, I enjoyed it that much. I also tried the first issue of Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit this week and it was not for me. It’s not terrible, but it’s a little wonky.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #82, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #2, Nightwing #87 and X-Men: Trial of Magneto #5.

Artist Mike Maihack has a great tradition of doodling cute Batgirl and Supergirl comics every Christmas! I don’t have any of my own blog Christmas traditions, other than sharing Maihack’s latest adorable strip. So here it is!
Merry Christmas, Mike Maihack! And Merry Christmas everyone!

Well it happened. I saw Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it was amazing! It was spectacular! Oh man, it was better than I had any possible guess! No bloat. No wrong turns. Just pure greatness! Expect my full review on Wednesday, like usual.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Robin & Batman #2 because I am a sucker for some great Robin stories. There are a lot of such stories this week, but I prefer classic Batman and Robin stuff to all the Robins being a team.
Meanwhile, I started playing the Guardians of the Galaxy video game and it’s a lot of fun. Nothing groundbreaking or innovative, just a really fun, interactive story about the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s neat. Also, I regret to report that I have finally dropped Wonder Girl. It’s just not for me.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #81, Batgirls #1, Robin & Batman #2, Robins #3 and Strange Academy #14.

By this time next week, I will have seen Spider-Man: No Way Home and none of the spoilers will haunt me anymore! The wait is getting pretty unbearable! But thankfully, we’ve got some fun comics like Power Rangers, Batman and Inferno to keep us occupied.
Comic Book of the Week goes to One-Star Squadron #1 for a fun little debut issue. Also, sometimes I just need to give Power Rangers a break from winning all the time.
Meanwhile, I finished Arcane on Netflix and it is phenomenal! Highly recommended! Possibly my show of the year. Arcane is what every video game adaptation wishes it could be. They take the characters and settings of League of Legends and actually build a really great story, juggling multiple characters, multiple arcs, multiple great moments, while still remaining true to the characters. The visuals are also out of this world.
Comic Reviews: Batman #118, Dark Knights of Steel #2, Inferno #3, Mighty Morphin #14 and One-Star Squadron #1.

Good morning, everybody! We’re two weeks away from Spider-Man: No Way Home and I just got my booster shot yesterday. Life is good, and comics are plentiful. This week sees the likes of more Amazing Spider-Man, Wonder Girl and Trial of Magneto!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Darkhawk #4 for a very nice issue that finally stops and smells the roses. Not enough comics stop to smell all the roses they themselves are planting.
Meanwhile, I finished the live action Cowboy Bebop on Netflix and I was not impressed. It was a well-made show, but I felt nothing…other than feeling like going back and checking out the original anime. But then I totally loved the second half of Masters of the Universe: Revelations! Those story twists and that grand finale were some epic stuff, and it was all really damn cool. Those 10 episodes will be quick to binge if anybody hasn’t yet.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #80, Darkhawk #4, Wonder Girl #5 and X-Men: Trial of Magneto #4.
