Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/14/16

If you’re reading this, then I am kickin’ back and having a great time at the Haverhill Public Library Comic-Con in Haverhill, Massachusetts! I’ve been to a lot of comic conventions over the years, but this is the very first time I’ll be presenting my own comic, Gamer Girl & Vixen! I’m very excited, and I hope it’s going well. I’ll do a write up on the event next week.

But for now, let’s enjoy some quality comics! Batman and Starfire both bow out of the New 52, Black Panther takes a crack at a second issue, and I dipped my toes into a few more non-superhero titles for once, with the return of Kaijumax.

The new issue of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers wins Comic Book of the Week, because it knows what I want, and it delivers without shame. Go, Green Ranger, Go Go!

My childhood

Also, in case you didn’t know, the Green Ranger is way better than the White Ranger. That’s just a fact.

Comic Reviews: Batman #52, Black Panther #2, Kaijumax #1, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers #3 and Starfire #12.

6 Superhero Civil Wars I Would Like to See

I am so very excited for Captain America: Civil War! It’s in theaters in America tomorrow, and I just can’t wait! I love me some Marvel superhero movies, and this one is supposed to be another slam dunk! I want to see Ant-Man, I want to see Spider-Man, I want the Black Panther to kick butt, I want Captain America and Iron Man to come to blows! I want to see this movie!

One more day!

On the other hand, I have zero interest in the Civil War II comic crossover coming out this summer. I just don’t care. Iron Man vs. Captain Marvel over some Inhuman? Really? I know Marvel tries to have their comics mirror their movies, at least a little bit. But I super incredibly don’t care. I enjoyed the original Civil War, and I still think the concept makes for a great storyline. But meh.

Of course, that’s no reason we can’t have some comic book speculation fun! What superheroes would I like to see have a ‘civil war’? What hero vs. hero battles would be pretty neat?

How Dawn of Justice Should Have Ended is the Video They Were Dying to Make

It’s all been leading to this. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is the movie they were waiting for!

And it’s all pretty funny! Solid work, HISHE people! So, who else is going to see Captain America: Civil War this weekend? Heck yeah!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/30/16

Wowzers, what a week! Let me share with you just how insane this week was for me. First of all, it was the final week of my Kickstarter for Gamer Girl & Vixen, and we hit our fundraising goal on Wednesday! Hooray! Second of all, this was also the week I was moving into a new apartment, and that took several days. So there’s some exhaustion. And then this just happened to be the most insane week for comics in a long time!

Not only did a new issue of Teen Titans come out, which I always give a big review. But this week saw new issues of Batman, Batgirl, Amazing Spider-Man, All-New Wolverine, Saga, Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel, Patsy Walker, Grayson, We Are Robin, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Harley Quinn, Faith, and so many more! This would have been a wonderful week of reading, if I wasn’t so exhausted from moving and finishing up a Kickstarter.

Fortunately, I did get to a couple of quality comics this week, so at least there’s that. This includes Comic Book of the Week for Ms. Marvel #6, for it’s lovely story of growing up superhero.

Classic Kamala!

Also, as a double reminder, my Kickstarter has blown past its fundraising goal this week! So the Gamer Girl & Vixen graphic novel is definitely getting made! If you want to snag a copy, head over to the Kickstarter! The campaign ends Monday morning.

Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #7, Amazing Spider-Man #11, Batman #51, Doctor Strange #7, Ms. Marvel #6 and Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #5.

Review: Teen Titans #19

I guess the latest issue of Teen Titans is the perfect place for the phrase ‘rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic’. We already know that with Rebirth, this current team of Titans is going to come to an end.  Either the team will split up, or they will never have been a team at all. Normally, this would be the perfect opportunity for a big, climactic something or other. But writer Greg Pak only came on to the series a few issues ago, and he’s kind of just going through the motions.

In any other situation, this would be a mighty fine issue of Teen Titans. But that omnipresent feeling of just killing time is unavoidable.

Teen Titans #19

Comic Rating: 6/10 – Pretty Good.

So we kinda sorta do get that team up between Wonder Woman and the Teen Titans. And we do get to see Wonder Girl learn about her previously unknown past. And there are some nice character moments found within Teen Titans #19. It’s a finely written and drawn comic. I don’t think I have any particular complaints, which is very different from my previous Teen Titans reviews, I know.

It’s almost as if Pak is just keeping the boat above water. Tell some innocent, innocuous stories that don’t really matter in the long run, but keep the book coming out on time.

I suppose I don’t have a problem with that, because we live in a world where Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel exist.
