I Love Everything About the Hellfire Gala!

The build-up to the Hellfire Gala on Krakoa kicked off this week with the release of a guide book, showing off everybody’s outfits and giving us a rundown of what to expect. We’ve known about this gala for a while now, and we’ve seen a lot of the outfits, and I just wanted to gush about how much I love this whole dang thing!

The X-Men hosting their own version of the Met Gala, complete with ludicrous outfits, is everything I want from X-Men comics right now.

The Dawn of X/Reign of X era has been largely hit and miss for me so far. I love the idea in general, of mutants living on Krakoa and pushing this ‘nation’ idea to its fullest. I love the good mutants and evil mutants living together in harmony. I’m perfectly happy with the resurrection stuff. I absolutely love the Crucible and all the thought behind it. I’m excited to see what Nightcrawler explores in the new Way of X series. I’m chomping at the bit for a business-focused series with X-Corp.

And I love the idea that Jumbo Carnation came back to life so that he could design insane but gorgeous gala outfits for everybody for a big crazy party! Just look at this outfits!

And even my boy Multiple Man gets an outfit! From what little we’ve glimpsed so far, it looked as if Madrox was going to be wearing his old costume to serve as waiter. But the new guidebook finally unveiled his fancy look!

Not just Multiple Man, but everybody is getting a look!

And I just want to show them off! I’m loving this whole thing, I’m loving these outfits. I only wish Marvel and their artists had time to go through and give a fancy outfit to every single freakin’ mutant that ever lived!

Where’s the Maggott design?! Give us a Maggott outfit!

But I digress. I just wanted to gush about my excitement for the Hellfire Gala and the lengths Marvel has gone to for all these beautiful outfits. And that’s to say nothing about the idea of electing the members of Krakoa’s first official team of X-Men! I love that idea as well.

Can’t wait for this whole big party to begin!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/24/21

What a finale to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier! I loved it, loved every part of it, from the character twists to the new costume reveals to pretty much everything! Expect a nice big review/thoughts roundup on the series on Wednesday! Until then, comics!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Way of X #1 for taking a deep dive into life on Krakoa, unlike any other X-Men comic since the new era began. I had my hesitations about this series, but the first issue delivered a lot of what I want!

Team Teleport!

Meanwhile, this week also saw the release of the new Mortal Kombat movie! I found it simultaneously cool and dumb. I’m mildly satisfied as a MK fan. And with my new Nintendo Switch, I splurged and bought Pokemon Shield. When the game was released, I was confident I would never get the chance to play. But here I am, me and my Grookey! It’s fine so far.

Also, I read this week’s issue of Spider-Woman but didn’t review it for timing reasons. But there are some fun character developments that make me want to pick this series back up again!

Comic Reviews: Justice League #60, Nightwing #79, Power Rangers #6, S.W.OR.D. #5 and Way of X #1.

Oh Baby, That is a Sweet Multiple Man Cover

I am very excited that Multiple Man, my all-time favorite comic book character, is finally going to return to ongoing comics next month with X-Corp. The real and proper Jamie Madrox hasn’t been in comics since 2013, when X-Factor ended! Then Marvel killed him in 2016 and then replaced him with a surviving duplicate in 2018. It’s been a long, horrible road for Multiple Man fans.

But X-Corp is coming. And in July, we’re going to get this sweet cover by artist David Aja for issue #3.

Oh baby. That’s just…ooo…I’m getting chills here. David Aja is an amazing artist. He was the guy behind the Hawkeye series that I still consider to be the best comic book series of the 2010s, and some of those covers are great!

Here’s the issue blurb for X-Corp #3.

He’s everywhere you want to be. He’s never not in the office. And his direct reports always fall in line. How does X-CORP meet their nearly impossible quotas with maximum synergy and minimal bandwidth? They’ve got Dr. Jamie Madrox, and he’s the world’s best boss.

I love it! He’s a doctor now? Sounds damn good to me! I can’t wait to see this series live up to the hype of the cover art.

And that’s it! Marvel revealed this cover in their July solicitations yesterday and I just had to share. It’s choice.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/17/21

We’ve got a hefty week of comics this week! I read a whole ton of books and enjoyed them all, for the most part. Some better than others, as is usually the case. Children of the Atom continues to be OK, Mighty Morphin is great as always, and Far Sector comes one step closer to the end!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Pack #5 for a delightful wrap-up to their short mini-series. Ryan North and Nico Leon had a lot of fun with this one, and that always makes me happy.

Breaking bad

Meanwhile, I decided to kick off my owning a Nintendo Switch with some Super Mario Odyssey! Such a fun game. I think this is the first time in my life I have ever owned a Nintendo console and the corresponding Mario game. I was always a Game Boy man for the longest time. Feels good to Mario.

Comic Reviews: Children of the Atom #2, Far Sector #11, Iron Man #8, Mighty Morphin #6, Power Pack #5, Thor #14 and Wonder Woman #771.

The New X-Men Team Stands Revealed!

I love the idea of an X-Men election. I love all the little ways the Krakoa-era is changing things up for mutants and the X-Men. And the idea that they would have the citizens of Krakoa vote on the roster for the official team of X-Men is a great idea!

And today, Marvel revealed that lineup!

The team looks fine. Nothing too crazy or exciting…but maybe that’s just me. We’ve got Cyclops and Jean Grey, with Rogue, Polaris, Sunfire, Synch and Wolverine. Seems a pretty solid lineup. Polaris won the reader poll, so that’s cool. Sunfire is a pretty unique choice. I hope to see great things from him. And Synch and Wolverine are obviously building from that very interesting story Jonathan Hickman has been running with, when they took on the Children of the Vault.

Unfortunately, Hickman won’t be writing the new ongoing X-Men series starring this roster. Gerry Duggan will be writing. And while I’ve liked what work of his I’ve read, I think his Marauders has gotten a bit lost in the weeds recently. But I’m going to remain positive.

Still, Strong Guy would have looked great on this team.
