Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/21/25
Greetings and salutations, comic lovers! I’m back with another couple of reviews. I can only hope people are actually reading. And speaking of reading comics, check out some of the new Gamer Girl & Vixen mini-comics at Global Comix, written by me, with a variety of artists! We’re adding three new comics for Pride Month!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Flash #4 for a nice little issue that moves the story along. Getting real Ultimate Spider-Man (original) vibes.
Meanwhile, I was on vacation this week and did a ton of relaxing at home. I finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and very much enjoyed that game. Started playing Balatro and it’s as fun as everybody said last year. Finished 20th Century men and it was fine. Read Mark Russell’s Superman: Space Age and it was fine. Watched the final season of The Umbrella Academy and it was, you guessed it, fine.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Flash #4, G.I. Joe #8 and X-Men #18.

We’ve got two new Avengers movies coming up starting late next year, so we’re a ways off. But I was giving Doomsday some thought the other day and realized I’d never done a List of Six on what I hope to see in the movie. I used to do these a lot for Marvel films. So here we are for my own personal hopes and dreams for Avengers: Doomsday in late 2026.
I’m still a major Marvel fan. Say what you will about me, but I’m still loving pretty much everything Marvel is putting out. I cannot fathom how anyone can say the Marvel products are “garbage”. They’re maybe not all amazing and phenomenal, but the films and TV shows are still well-made and very entertaining. I can’t wait to rewatch Thunderbolts* when it comes to Disney+, and Fantastic Four: First Steps is expected to be a highlight of the rest of my year.
So can Marvel make themselves a billion dollar movie-maker again with Doomsday and then Secret Wars? I’m more than willing to find out!

Do the weeks seem longer to anybody else? I know I’m working a lot, but damn, the weekend seems to take forever. Anyway, new comics, good stuff all around, like X-Men and Spider-Man.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Superman #7 for an awesome new origin for Brainiac.
Meanwhile, The Museum of the Uncanny Kickstarter was a success! So I will have a new short comic story entering the world sometime soon. Hopefully you all ordered your copy and will get to read it! Beyond that, I’m loving Andor, Doctor Who and The Last of Us, obviously, and continue to slowly make my way through Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Fun game.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Green Lantern #2, Absolute Superman #7, Amazing Spider-Man #3 and X-Men #16.

Oh boy, what a week. This year has really been kicking me down, and I’m not even just talking about the wide world of crumbling society. It’s just been…that kind of week. Anyway, new comics keep coming out, and they main fun enough, like the start of Absolute Green Lantern.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Superman #6 for the absolute best issue so far in this already stellar series! It just keeps getting better!
Meanwhile, I’m still very much enjoying Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, as I always knew I would. Just taking my time living in this game. I watched the first season of Paradise on Hulu and found it merely OK, other than a few standout moments or episodes. And I’m currently really enjoying the first season of The Residence on Netflix, which is a murder mystery set at the White House. Highly recommended.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Green Lantern #1, Absolute Superman #6 and X-Men #14.

Readers, you would not believe the month I’m having. Jeez louise. I’m only one man! But at least we’ve got good comics still coming out, like Absolute Batman and the new One World Under Doom.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Green Lantern Corps #1 for a nice return to form for the GL stories I enjoy. Give me all the space cops!
Meanwhile, I’ve got to buy a new car. And I did not save up for having to buy a new car, even though I knew I needed to. So I’m buying this thing based on what savings I do have at the moment, so it’s not great! Which means I’ve got to make Dragon Age: Veilguard and Stardew Valley last a bit longer in terms of entertainment. Avowed and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II are going to have to wait!
Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #5, Green Lantern Corps #1, One World Under Doom #1 and X-Men #11.
