Squirrel Girl is Great! Go Read It!
For awhile now, Marvel has been doing this fun cartoon thing where Noah Sterling narrates classic Marvel stories. It’s fun. And now they’ve done a recap of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, one of my favorite comics!
So watch the cartoon and go read Unbeatable Squirrel Girl by Ryan North and Erica Henderson. It’s great!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/15/17
Can you believe we have to wait all the way until November for another superhero movie? Man, what’s wrong with the world? Good thing we’ve got other comics to fill the time! Detective Comics, Hulk comics, Wonder Woman comics, X-Men comics and Squirrel Girl comics!
Unbeatable Squirrel Girl wins Comic Book of the Week because Ryan North and Erica Henderson revel in what it would actually be like to visit the Savage Land!
I checked in on Amazing Spider-Man this week but decided not to review it because it’s largely a Secret Empire tie-in and I’m not super keen on reading or reviewing a ton of tie-ins. Thankfully, this tie-in is largely focused on Dan Slott’s ongoing story of Doc Ock taking back Parker Industries, so I dig that part of it. And it moves the Spider-Man/Mockingbird relationship forward a little, which I also like. But mostly it was a big, busy, crazy issue. So good times there!
Comic Reviews: Defenders #3, Detective Comics #960, Hulk #8, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #22, Wonder Woman #26 and X-Men Blue #7.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/20/17
Boy, what a couple of weeks, huh? In my day job as a newspaper reporter, I have been wrapped up covering a high profile murder trial since late last month! And then there were those couple of days I was in the hospital! It’s been a crazy time, and it’s cut into my comic reading. A shame really, since we’ve had some good comics in the past few weeks.
This week in particular, we’ve got new issues of Batwoman, Squirrel Girl and The Wild Storm, along with debut issues of Generation X and Luke Cage, both of which were highly anticipated by yours truly! And sure enough, the spiritual successor to Power Man and Iron Fist wins Comic Book of the Week for another awesome story by David F. Walker!
Meanwhile, in comics I read but didn’t review, Harley Quinn kicked off a fun new story, though I think I’m gonna skip this one. Power Rangers was an interlude issue about Zordon, and was still good. And the second issue of Secret Empire kept the story rolling along, but mostly served to spin-off into the various tie-in titles. All-in-all, a fine week in comics.
I even enjoyed the new issue of X-Men Gold, so I may have to try that series again.
Comic Reviews: Batwoman #3, Generation X #1, Luke Cage #1, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #20 and The Wild Storm #4.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/15/17
So, uh, I kind of went a little overboard with the reviews this week, everybody. Sorry about that. It just so happens that a metric ton of my favorite Marvel comics all come out on the same day, and I didn’t want to skip over any of them! So be prepared for everything from Amazing Spider-Man to Unstoppable Wasp to Mosaic to the final issue of Power Man and Iron Fist! Plus I wanted to try out a couple more ResurrXion comics.
Fortunately, this week also delivered one of the best issues of Silver Surfer yet, an easy Comic Book of the Week! That comic is magical! Silver Surfer #10 combines tragic romance with all my favorite bits of Silver Surfer mythology, making for a wonderful issue.
Meanwhile, I really, really, really want to get back into reading more DC Comics. Now that Gotham Academy is coming to an end and Greg Rucka is leaving Wonder Woman, I’m going to try to get caught up on those two series so I can review them through the end.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #26, Detective Comics #954, Mosaic #7, Power Man and Iron Fist #15, Silver Surfer #10, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #19, Unstoppable Wasp #4, Weapon X #1 and X-Men Blue #1.
