LEGO Bumblebee Threatens My Wallet
I am an adult LEGO builder. I wouldn’t call myself a collector. I just like buying and building these things, then finding somewhere in my meager apartment to store them and let them collect dust. And now there’s another set on my horizon: Bumblebee the Transformer! LEGO has made a second Transformers set!
I think these are nifty keen! The amount of thought and engineering that goes into making a LEGO model that transformers into a second LEGO model is just plan cool! I bought the Optimus Prime set when it first came out and only finally got around to building it a couple of weeks ago. It looks great! So I’m definitely gonna get Bumblebee to add to that collection.
I told myself I wasn’t going to spend money on LEGO this year. I’m saving my sights for the X-Mansion whenever that shows up. But this Bumblebee looks awesome! It’s gonna cost only about $90 when it releases on July 4.

Animated Transfomers Origin Movie Incoming
So, huh. I have been vaguely aware of Transformers One for some time now, but I had no idea it was going to be this: an animated origin story that leans into every possible trope imaginable, while trying to tap into the same magic of TMNT: Mutant Mayhem. See for yourself.
The tropes are unending. Enemies started out as best friends in lowly jobs. They’ve got the comic relief character and the girl character to round out the squad. A-list actors brought in to do voice actor work. Man, this trailer has it all! The humor is maybe funny. The action and animation look fine. The exploration of Transformers lore feels forced. And it doesn’t help that the big screen Transformers franchise is all over the place these days. So I’m just not sure what this movie is trying to accomplish.
But I guess we’ll find out when Transformers One comes to theaters on Sept. 20.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/13/24
My readership numbers have been going down lately. Is anybody actually reading and enjoying these reviews? I know I don’t have any particularly interesting insights, but I do enjoy talking about comics. Including ThunderCats and Transformers!
Comic Book of the Week is Action Comics #1064, kicking off an awesome new Superman story that was teased some time ago.
Meanwhile, I’m still recovering from Episode 5 of X-Men ’97. Holy heck this show is good! And i’ve started watching Fallout, which is awesome. We’re feasting good these days! In the video game world, a friend of mine got me onto Evil Genius 2, which is a fun base-builder. It’s a nice game to lose a couple hours to.
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1064, ThunderCats #3 and Transformers #7.

Ugh, what a week. I caught a nasty cold last weekend and have spent this whole week in some state of crumminess. Hopefully by the time you read these reviews I’ll be feeling better, but while I’m writing them, everything is crummy!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Transformers #6 because Daniel Warren Johnson just goes all out with the insane action!
Meanwhile, my two comic book Kickstarters both came to an end this week, both successful! So this year I will be making Gamer Girl & Vixen: Tyrant Lizard Queen, and a short story of mine will appear in The Cloakroom, a collection of shorts from students in Scott Snyder’s My Best Jacket Substack class. And I’m also finally getting to work on making that Cover Bard project I mentioned a long time ago. So this is gonna be a good year for me making my own comics!
Comic Reviews: ThunderCats #2, Transformers #6 and Ultimate Black Panther #2.

What a week, what a glorious week! If you haven’t heard the news, my Gamer Girl & Vixen Kickstarter hit its funding goal this week, so I’m on cloud nine! And then the world went ahead and gave me so many of my favorite current comics, like Nightwing, Superman and Transformers!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Woman #6 because every issue of this series is just mind-blowingly cool!
Meanwhile, I’ve been making my way through various TV shows lately, like Lessons in Chemistry and, finally, Twisted Metal. I’m still playing Super Mario Bros. Wonder and taking my sweet time at on that. No other new games have really caught my attention. So just sort of chilling my way through some OK games and shows these days.
Comic Reviews: Cobra Commander #2, Nightwing #111, Superman #11, Transformers #5, Ultimate Spider-Man #2 and Wonder Woman #6.
