Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/21/15
This is the week. There are a lot of good comics out this week, and I wish I’d found the time to get to even more of them, but this week is special because of the return of two of my favorite comics: Ms. Marvel and The Mighty Thor! These are some of the best in the industry right now, and their returns are most welcome!
But surprisingly, Comic Book of the Week goes to Astonishing Ant-Man #2! Another one of Marvel’s gems, the new issue of Ant-Man delivers a wonderfully entertaining issue that edges out the two more hotly anticipated comics because of the return of a recent favorite character of mine!
Let’s welcome back Miss Thing!
And as a special bonus later today, tune in to the Geekamole Youtube channel this afternoon as I join frequent Henchman commenter Maus Merryjest for his weekly pop culture podcast! We talk about Teen Titans, Iceman and much more! If you’ve ever wanted to listen to me talk about comics instead of reading them, now is your chance.
Doubly also, we’ve got some big Gamer Girl & Vixen news coming soon! And if you helped out my Kickstarter last summer, then your comics should be arriving very soon!
Comic Reviews: Astonishing Ant-Man #2, Huck #1, Mighty Thor #1, Ms. Marvel #1, Spider-Woman #1, Titans Hunt #2 and Vader Down #1.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/24/15
Apparently Marvel Comics is quite keen on us enjoying their new Iron Man and Spider-Man comics, because the second issues are already here! And they’re both still pretty great! Marvel also delivers the return of Ant-Man this week, and drops a Karnak bomb in our laps! Writer Warren Ellis has got to be sitting on a pretty awesome throne these days. The guy is like one of those mafia ‘fixers’ who can just come in and kick ass no matter what assignment he gets.
Not that DC are slouching! Batman and Robin Eternal remains pretty solid and entertaining so far, and the latest issue of Gotham Academy is a ton of fun.
But Comic Book of the Week has to go to Amazing Spider-Man #2 for one of the funniest Spidey comics I’ve read in awhile!
Dan Slott is on a role! Also, the Prowler is pretty amazing in this issue too.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #2, Astonishing Ant-Man #1, Batman and Robin Eternal #3, Gotham Academy #11, Invincible Iron Man #2, Karnak #1 and Titans Hunt #1.
I’m Not Sure Why the Ant-Man Movie Doesn’t Do More With Its Dad Angle
Ant-Man is a single father, and that’s pretty rare when it comes to these superhero movies. I’m not sure why Marvel aren’t focusing on that a bit more in the marketing.
Possibly because they just want to focus on the action and humor? Does that stand a better chance of getting butts into seats? Maybe! But Cassie Lang looks adorable in this movie.
Happy Father’s Day, too!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/9/15
Oy, I’m sick. I don’t know if it’s Spring Fever or Just a Fever or what, but I’ve come down with that cough and uggish feeling that’s going around. It’s definitely not dance fever, that’s for darn sure. Fortunately, I had a big stack of my favorite comics to keep me company this week.
We got new issues of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Ant-Man and Amazing Spider-Man, as well as the only Convergence title I’m reading: The Question. Not surprisingly, seeing Greg Rucka and Cully Hamner reunite for a Renee Montoya comic wins Comic Book of the Week. I need this comic in my life on a full-time basis.
If nothing else, Convergence at least allowed Rucka to return to one of his best characters, so I guess I’m grateful for that. The rest of the series blows, from what I’m reading around the web.
Speaking of the web, you can check out my review of Secret Wars #1 over at Word of the Nerd this week. I’d planned to add it to this article as well, but that sickness hit me like a ton of bricks. Sometimes the world just doesn’t want you to write about comic books.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #18, Ant-Man #5, Convergence: The Question #2, Spider-Woman #7 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #5.
The New Ant-Man Trailer is What We’ve Been Waiting For
A second, awesome Ant-Man trailer hit the Internet today, and it’s exactly what we’ve all been waiting for! The first trailer was good, but failed to impress everybody. This new trailer is chocked to the gills with special effects, shrinking, and some awesome Ant-Man comedy! This is the movie we all want to see!
I am very excited for Ant-Man. I know Age of Ultron is going to be good. I knew Daredevil would be great. But Ant-Man is the big gamble. A lot of people aren’t too sold on this film yet. But I am going to be its champion! The movie looks great. Paul Rudd is an amazing choice for the main character. Ant-Man is going to ride its underdog status to success!
What’d you think of the trailer? Let me know in the comments!
