Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers the Movie Channels The Breakfast Club
The first trailer for the upcoming Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers movie landed at Comic-Con over the weekend, and I think I’m pretty pleased with the result. Seems like they’re really going to push the ‘teenagers with attitude’ thing with an extended Breakfast Club-esque origin.
It’s really serious and gritty, and I can understand that some people won’t like that. But honestly? I’m open to new experiences and interpretations. Power Rangers has pretty much been one thing for its entire lifetime, and the Mighty Morphin’ era is long in the past. I was a huge fan when I was a kid, so I’m definitely looking forward to this movie, and I’m excited for what they bring to the table. Let them try something new.
Camp is dead and should remain dead. Maybe someday it will come roaring back for some horrible reason, but it is not this day. So let’s give the super serious, kinda gritty Power Rangers a try. Consider me on board, if just to see what it’s like!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 9/3/16
I’m on vacation again! I love me a good work vacation. I get a whole week to just hang out and relax. Read some comics. Watch some movies. I’ve got a whole list of stuff to do this week. Hopefully I get around to at least half of it and I don’t just spend the week playing video games. That could happen.
But until then, how about this week’s comics? We’ve got some good ones, like Kim & Kim and Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. We’ve also got a comic that breaks my little heart. Stupid Amazing Spider-Man #17!
Fortunately, writer Dan Slott almost redeems himself with a stellar Silver Surfer #200 anniversary issue! He wins Comic Book of the Week, but the guy is damn good at toying with my emotions.
Saga also returned this week, but I’ve decided to stop reviewing that comic. Saga is an amazing story, and part of me thinks it’s meant to be read issue-by-issue, but I just don’t think I can be fair to the series that way. Some issues might be duller than others, but that does not bring down Saga as a whole. It’s a tough decision, but the only decision that matters is that you should be reading Saga.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #17, Astonishing Ant-Man #11, Kim & Kim #2, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers #6, Ms. Marvel #10 and Silver Surfer #200.

Hooray for Comic-Con! I’m sure there’s quite the party going down in San Diego. I haven’t been following the news too closely, but all manner of comic book stories, super duper movies and a bunch of trailers have been released so far. But none of that excuses us from reading new comics this week!
In honor of all the convention news, I read a whole buncha comics this week. I even went beyond Marvel and DC! We’ve got the new ongoing Faith series from Valiant, Power Rangers from BOOM! and Patsy Walker from Marvel! Sorry, that one always deserves a mention.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Astonishing Ant-Man #10! It was a tough call between Ant-Man and Patsy Walker, but I picked fun action adventure over heartfelt emotional drama. That’s not usually my style, but sometimes Ant-Man deserves a win.
Though Patsy Walker was really good, too. Curses! Now I’m starting to rethink everything!
Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #10, Astonishing Ant-Man #10, Batman #3, Faith #1, Justice League #1, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers #5, Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #8, and Spider-Man #9.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/25/16
How did I get so lucky that all of my favorite comics come out in the same week? As a comic book fan, that’s great! As a comic book reviewer who is having a pretty busy week at work, that stinks! I managed to read a few of my favorites for sure this week, but I’ll be missing out reviews for the likes of Doctor Strange and Totally Awesome Hulk! I’ve also already blown my promise to try out some of the Rebirth titles, since I didn’t get around to reading Aquaman or Wonder Woman.
Guess I’ll just have to make due with the likes of Harley Quinn, Mighty Thor, Ms. Marvel, Power Rangers, and instant Comic Book of the Week, Power Man and Iron Fist! I should be so lucky as to have comics this good all in one week!
I’m sure Aquaman and Wonder Woman were fine too.
Comic Reviews: Detective Comics #935, Harley Quinn #29, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers #4, Mighty Thor #8, Ms. Marvel #8 and Power Man and Iron Fist #5.
Behold, Our New Power Rangers!
The new movie suits of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers hit the Internet today, and they’re pretty much what one would expect. Snazzy, alien-looking, more detailed than the jumpsuits they had on TV. I like them.
These were probably a no-brainer. Take the classic concept, keep enough of it to look familiar, but jazz them up a little bit. They seem fine to me.
Also, I’m kind of digging this popular Internet theory that Rita Repulsa, based on her new green outfit, is a former Green Ranger who went evil. That would be a pretty solid origin behind where she gets the Green Ranger powers from. Maybe we’ll get a sequel and can see the Green Ranger come to life on the big screen. He is the best Ranger after all.
